Xbox 360 HD-DVD price cut due but no trade-ins
By Jonathan Schlaffer
With prices on other HD-DVD players falling like lead balloons, price cuts on the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive is no doubt in the future. Toshiba is slashing prices all across the board and since it makes the Xbox 360 drive, it’s only a matter of time. But, if you were hoping to unload your HD-DVDs or Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive at games shops, you have another thing coming.
One of the largest video game chains in the US is no longer accepting HD-DVD movies for trade at all its stores. GameStop is aware of the HD-DVD situation so you’ll have to find another means to unload your defunct media.
Select stores have been reported by Engadget as no longer accepting the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive either. Once the Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive hits, you can forget about a trade-in on the HD-DVD drive.
Your best bet is just to unload the now “junk” on eBay unless you just want to use your HD-DVD player as an upconverting DVD player. Of course, you have the option of keeping your HD-DVD hardware and media and keeping seperate HD-DVD and Blu-Ray libraries. I’d rather just have one collection of high-def movies than two.
And remember that Blu-Ray player is happy as a clam to play your DVD collection as well.
