You’ve got PS3s coming in at different prices, 3 completely different 360 setups at varying price points; at which price point are you getting the best product available?

The problem with game ratings set up for all games/systems/consoles (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) is not that the package is clearly labeled by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) as to who can and who can’t purchase a game but that it is up to the retailer to enforce them. Most retailers like Best Buy, Gamestop and similar are only concerned with one thing; making a sale which breaks the whole system.

There we all are debating whose console is better, and engaging in “mine is bigger than yours” type arguments, but it seems it could all soon be a pointless argument. Some in the gaming industry are looking in to their crystal balls and predicting the end of home consoles after this current generation.

There’s been a lot of debate recently over video game violence, and what effect it might have on children playing these adult games. The latest recommendations from the UK include the scaremongering sound bite that computer games should get cigarette-style warnings.

If you are a Playstation user who participates in the Playstation Network, you might want to check your email accounts, voicemail or whatever other communication methods you use; Sony believes that some user information could have been stolen, and if you’re one of them, you’ll either hear about it or not be able to login.

While the rest of the gaming world is engaged in a viciously heated battle over which game console rules supreme, there is a group of silent gamers that goes about its business without a word. Those mysterious few are gamers who don’t buy into the hype of the “next-gen” war — for them, the best consoles are the ones no longer in production.

This week sees the release of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, a kind of lower priced taster for the full game. It seems a lot of people were going to hold on to their money and wait until that full-fat version came out in a few months time, but it seems we have a longer wait than that.

Sony has unleashed firmware version 2.20 for its PS3 console. It has arrived mostly as expected but is lacking one feature that many were predicting it could/should have had.
