Microsoft claims Xbox 360 has best games - Gamerscore defeats PS3

Microsoft has made a rebuttal over claims that PS3 versions of multi-format games are superior to their Xbox 360 equivalents, by counter claiming that the Xbox 360 is still the superior console, and Gamerscore plays a big part in that.
Last week, Gamepro published an article titled ‘PS3 vs. Xbox 360 ports: The cold, hard truth‘, in which they compared various different games which have been released on both consoles.
Their writer, Tracy Erickson, controversially came to various conclusions, and ended up by trying to convince us all, by use of a few dubious pieces of so called evidence, that the Playstation 3 really was the only choice when it came to multi format releases.
Now, Microsoft has issued a rebuttal of these claims, with Gamepro themselves printing the response of Microsoft marketing director Albert Penello, who told them by email:
“For multiplatform console owners, Achievements and Gamerscore have to be listed as an influencing factor to purchase the Xbox 360 version, their success and popularity is undeniable.”
“We have to disagree with your conclusion that the trend of Xbox 360 versions of games being best is changing, especially when you look at the entire catalog of multiplatform titles available,”
“The cold, hard truth is that Xbox 360 has the best games - and industry reviewers and consumers agree.”
So does he have a point? Well Gamerscore is certainly a great innovation, which can help add an extra interactive element, and incentive to the Xbox 360 experience, but I wouldn’t say it should mean more than graphics, gameplay, playability, and all of the other traditional forms of rating a game which have been built up over the years.
The Xbox 360 does have some great games out for it, but I would say the trend is changing, that’s not in doubt. The PS3 is gaining ground in terms of quantity and quality of games on its rival every single day.
Most of those games which are helping the Playstation 3, are actually exclusive, and the main point of the original Gamepro article was to compare non-exclusives, and try to help those lucky souls who own more than one of the three home consoles make a choice when it comes to multi-format releases.
I was very critical of the tone and lack of an unbiased style in the original article, but I have to side with them here. How can Gamerscore be used as a deciding factor when the console you are comparing games with doesn’t have a similar system in place?
Everyone will have their views on multi format releases, and it was blatantly obvious Microsoft would see fit to defend their system, but at this point in time, I would say the Xbox 360 is looking to be in the least healthy position, massively behind the Nintendo Wii, and gradually being overtaken by the momentum gaining Playstation 3.
So that’s at least one “industry reviewer and consumer” who disagrees.

But what about online capabilities? I know of several people in the industry who will admit that they would rather play games that have online functionality on their 360 as opposed to their PS3. Sure, graphics are very important, however I feel that the difference between the two isn’t enough to merit picking one over the other. And on that note. Gears of Wars is still the best looking console game to date and it will probably stay that way until Gears 2 comes out. Anyway, I just don’t think the difference is enough to call one platform the clear winner. I just think more things need to be taken into consideration.

Ivan the idiot strikes again! The 360 is the Hardcore gamers machine, and is easier to program for, hence better looking games on the 360. Not only that the 360 has a much superior online system compared to sony’s free crap. I mean seriously, there is NO free lunch, and sony’s online structure sucks. This statement itself does not make sense. “especially when you look at the entire catalog of multiplatform titles available” Thats the exact point if you look at the entire catalogue you will see the older multi platform games are usually better looking, and generally play better or the 360 but the newer multi platform games are starting to be equal or slightly better on the PS3, true some are still better on the 360 but I think in time the trend will continue, the high capacity of blu ray, the fact every PS3 has a HDD and the pure power of the Cell means that as programers get more used to the PS3 the multi platform games will start to exceed what is posible on the DVD driven, HDD-less 360.
I own a 360 and like to play games on the console, but I can see the PS3 is a superior machine getting through it’s teething problems and within the next year I think any dual console owner will start buying multi platform releases solely on the Sony system.

i’ve just bought a ps3 and after using it the xbox 360 has a far better interface people say the dashboard sucks maybe but it’s better then what the ps3 has you download something with the ps3 and think hey i can watch a movie while it’s downloading not it stops downloading the xbox keeps going and you can push the x and it brings up a menu you push the ps button and you get a battery gauge oooo high tech indeed the ps3 is my blu-ray player not one game has got my attention for games i’ll use my xbox

The PS3 is a hunk of junk…wii is dominating the market, followed by the 360 (which has been out since late 05), and in last place the PS3. The wii is the most inovative, 360 has the best gaming experience(offline and online) to be perfectly honest, and the ps3 is…well it is, it has graphics, and thats it

Get off it dude… Gears was a good game but d@mn short, frame rates weren’t consistent, and online was laggy as hell when I played it on 360. I’ve got the PC version and it’s better than 360. UT3 looks better than Gears and drake’s fortune too… gears was a second year 360 game and UT3 and Drake were 1st year PS3 games…
That says a lot about the potential the system has, this while being “so much more difficult” to program for… porting to the PS3 from 360 is a b!tch and M$ designed it that way… now that 3rd party devs are on to M$’s tricks they’re starting to lead on the PS3 and port to the 360, which Ubisoft, Rockstar, Konami, Capcom, THQ, Activision all agree on… only crappy EA is still having major problems… face it… everyone is talking PS3 and Wii…. 360 is already a has been system, which is why there’s already rumblings about xbox 720… 360 peaked out last year, nuff said.

GoW was realeased at the end of 360’s first year (Nov.06) and was also used as a dev. tool for UT3. The reason developers are starting on PS3 is the longer dev. time on PS3. Hopefully this will cut back on the delays we have seen recently, with everyone waiting for the PS3 version of a game to be finished!

For one thing ps3 is currently outselling the xbox 360 in more or less all regions ATM (dont get fucking excited sony fans)
I think we were all expecting ps3 to catch up but you sony fanboys seem to have forgotten one thing.
Microsoft and Nintendo has theoretically won this war. Both of them have taken a huge slice of Sonys Market share No way will sony ever have a lead like the ps2 vs xbox days.
In this term Sony has actually Lost and everybody with 2 or more brain cells would of worked this out.
Sony may win in the end by sells but we will be looking at 40m ps3s 37m wiis and 35m xbox 360s is what analyses is prediciting towards teh end when the next consoles arrive.
Compared to Last gen the all mighty ps2 100 million vs the mere 25m xbox.
The games aswell Look at how far the 360 has come: Gears of war 1 + 2, GTA, Fable 2, lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, BioShock, Burnout Paridise, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Eternal Sonata, Devil May Cry, Lost Planet, Assassin Creed, Call of duty 2-3-4 Splinter cell Double Agent and Conviction, Tom Clancy Rainbow six 1 + 2

I agree with this, Sony has lost a lot of respect from users as well as game companies, and what microsoft has to offer, we know that sony use blue ray discs these can hold alot of game play most likely hold more hours for a single player this isn’t to bad, but you lose out on the mulitplayer part the online system for it is really crap and with the xbox their discs are for graphics which really showed show better quality of games.
Sony has a long way before they get themselves to where the xbox is with arcade games and films you can download the xbox is steps ahead of sony

Having a gamerscore would be nice, so would a swimming pool in my house!
As for the whole “sony have lost market share” , I think that is important for people to remember that the market share isn’t the exact same size as it was last generation. The wii while extreamly successful usually co-exists with either a ps3 or a 360 and so a purchased Wii does not contribute to this “lost” market share for Sony.
Another important point to remember is that the ps3 has sold 1m units in the UK (which is pretty much held as 360 territory alongside the US) faster than either the PSX or the PS2 did, so while the 360 might be selling well in some parts of the world, the gaming community is probably growing by @ least that much anyway if not more.

The majority of readers on this forum will understand what that meant but for you I’ll break it down…..It’s no longer a sony exclusive which would have no doubt have helped ps3 console sales. It will be interesting to see how xbox market the exclusive content because they are already bundling loads of stuff on to it whereas ps3 are just sitting back at the minute.

At the moment the ps3 cannot match the 360 in terms of games for the true gamer.It could change but even the non exclusives play better on the 360 in most cases.Lets not get into the online arena because there is only one winner there. Hopefully this will change so I can get the full value of what I payed for the ps3 at launch. One more thing, the reason the ps3 has been outselling the ps3 recently…pricedrop! Its common knowledge. I have a master system II, a mega drive, ps1…..ps2….and had to wait for ps3. Very happy with my dicision to keep myself loyal to very special console. I`m sure most of you guys have heard great things about our consoles future….it all starts in june 12..with MGS4……Check the trailers for the best game ever.

I too have a launch 360, no RROD but I have just replaced the laser. But I replaced 2 on my old PS2 in 3 years. I had a PS1, PS2 then 360 as PS3 wasn’t out and have no plans to buy one. Brand loyalty is what lazy companies count on, and what narrow minded people follow.

Never thought of myself as ignorant, I bought consoles that had games that I wanted to play, not because of any brand. I had an N64 that was good enough, as well as the PS1, PS2 to entertain myself with. Never bought Xbox 1, just that when my last PS2 died the 360 seemed the natural progression. At the moment PS3 has nothing to offer me, of the 5 games I’ve played(as I never liked any of the MGS series that won’t sway me either). Enjoy the PS3, but don’t let brand loyalty make you miss out on some great games.

All games machines have boring moments and that is why i held on to my Nintendo.
So i can play Duck Hunt or Mario Bros while i install the latest Yellow Dog Linux 6 on the PS3.

There’s good and bad about the PS3 and 360, surely.
It seems to me that at the moment the 360 has the better games and online experience but the ps3 is more powerful and with time MAY have better games.
I have both consoles; I play multi-format games on 360 because they are cheaper (and no or very little difference in quality) but I do like the PS3 exclusives like ‘Drakes fortune’ and ‘Fall of man’ (just wish they would make more good exclusives for the system).
In short, I think you ‘Fanboys’ out there should just grow up and enjoy what you have. People must be getting bored of listening to your endless prattling.
