Prey 2 may be coming to Xbox 360, PC

March 16, 2008

Prey 2 coming to Xbox 360, PC The original Prey was far from the best first person shooter but neither was it the worst.  It’s been about two years since Prey was released and the developer behind Prey 2 currently has no other projects on its plate.

I can’t decide if the fact that Human Head studios not having other projects is a good thing or bad thing.  On one hand they are able to direct all attention towards making Prey 2 a great game.  On the other hand it would instill more confidence in me if it had other projects; even small ones, to work on.

Instead of being produced by 3D Realms, Prey 2 has shifted to the Radar Group.  That’s also cause for my confidence in the final product to waver slightly.

At the end of the original Prey the protagonist of the game, Tommy, ends up flying the alien mother ship into the sun; he then meets with some Native American (Indian) spirits and is supposedly whisked back to Earth.

Concept art and a partial plot detail have been released, according to ShackNews,

“This time, abandoned and framed for the disappearance of his family, Tommy escapes an Earth that no longer wants him for a future that cannot survive without him.”

Concept art is just that but the Earth is depicted as a post apocalyptic wasteland, so who cares what you’re accused of doing/not doing?

It is listed for release on the PC and Xbox 360 platforms.  I’ll reserve judgement on the game until when/if it is released.  Prey didn’t exactly have a “wow factor” and if that’s any indication, neither will Prey 2.

Now that we have games like BioShock, Call of Duty 4 and Crysis; Prey is below average.  That may be unfair but these are the titles that Prey 2 will be judged against.  Heaven help it if it goes up against BioShock 2 or Crysis 2/3.
