Forget Jesus, eggs and bunnies - Get a Nintendo Wii for Easter
By Dave Parrack
Easter, a time for family, religion, cute bunnies, and lots of chocolate eggs. But forget all that. With the Nintendo Wii shortage continuing in North America, all kids want this year is one of the little white consoles.
For whatever reason, the shortage of Nintendo Wii consoles which started last year is continuing well in to 2008, particularly in the US. We still don’t really know the reason for the shortage, apart from the fact that Nintendo are selling a lot of Wiis month after month.
There’s the possibility that Nintendo are engineering the shortage, so as to keep demand high, and articles such as this keeping the console in news streams.
Or it may be that Nintendo fear the worldwide demand, which even shocked Nintendo itself, could come to an end very soon, and are unwilling to ramp up manufacture in case they get burned.
Either way, the situation means many kids are still waiting for the Wii their desperate parents promised them at Christmas. And it’s now Easter!
Wiis are now such a commodity, even at this supposedly consumer free time of year, that many are being promised as prizes for competitions and raffles, with the organisers know it will ensure a great turnout.
The Battle Creek Enquirer tells of the Victory Life Church in Emmet Township, who have organised an Easter egg hunt as they do every year. But this time, as well as 23,000 plastic eggs containing pieces of candy, 100 entitled the lucky finder entry in to a raffle to win one of two Nintendo Wiis.
Elizabeth King, who was at the event watching her 3 year old daughter, Kandice, collecting as many eggs as she could carry said:
“We want her to have fun, but we want that Wii.”
While her father, Josh Clark, commented:
“She just wants to beat up on Daddy on the boxing game.”
As I said in the title to this post, forget Jesus, eggs and bunnies, Easter is now the time to get hold of a Wii. It’s the new Christmas!

Your article basically says, “A couple months after Christmas, some kids (and their parents) are still waiting to get their hands on a Wii.”
Isn’t there an easy way to headline that without being offensive to Christians on their holiest of days?

I have to agree with the above posters. You surely could have thought of another title. As a Christian, I do take offense to your title. You could have just put “Get a Nintendo Wii for Easter” without the other part.

The point of the post is that a church has organised an Easter egg hunt, and offered Wiis as prizes.
It’s not me necessarily saying forget Jesus, but a church in America which seems to have made Easter more winning a Wii than anything else.
