Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 still year away - Worth buying GT5 Prologue?
By Dave Parrack
This week sees the release of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, a kind of lower priced taster for the full game. It seems a lot of people were going to hold on to their money and wait until that full-fat version came out in a few months time, but it seems we have a longer wait than that.
Gran Turismo is a name synonymous with the Playstation brand, and one of the exclusive games which might make indecisive gamers spend their hard earned money on a Playstation 3.
Indeed, any mention of the game on games websites and forums, has seen PS3 owners very excited at the prospect of playing the first instalment of the series on the current generation consoles.
SCEA associate producer Chris Hinojosa-Miranda wrote a post yesterday on the Official Playstation Blog about the soundtrack for the Prologue edition of the game, and how a mixtape has been compiled exclusively for North American gamers.
It’s not a very exciting subject, but Hinojosa-Miranda’s response to a question about whether it’s worth buying Prologue, only to have to shell out for the fill version a few months later, is interesting:
“GT5 is still about a year away. You should just decide now to buy it, enjoy it, go online and race against anyone and everyone, rank number one worldwide, get the girl (or guy) and become the most popular kid in town. The end.”
Still a year away? Well that could change everything, as the game was expected to be ready for a Christmas 2008 release at the latest.
I’ve never been one to buy in to the idea of a prelude to the main game, as I just think it’s an excuse to squeeze more money out of consumers loyal to the brand, and eager to play the game.
But, if the thought of waiting a whole year to play Gran Turismo 5 is just too much for you, then there is probably enough content in Prologue to justify the admittedly cheap price tag.
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is due out in Europe this week, and across North America on April 17th.

@Omen…..You would think that after shoving out $600 bucks for a Playstation 3 that you would learn by now!? But idiots like you are always easy to manipulate because Sony will keep draining your money over and over and over.
Sooner or later, PS3 gamers need to say enough is enough. Personally, I’m not buying the Prologue. It’s a a waste of money and I’m only paying money for a game that is “thorough” and “complete”.
Fuck getting a half made game! Ha. I’ve learned the first time, always wait until the product has been out for a couple of weeks or months to see the ratings, for you to play the demo and experience it yourself, etc.

WTF is up with this dumb fuck its a traditional thing they do ever since GT3 came out they don’t try to squeeze money from gamers this is not like XBL or your fucked up XBOX this is giving fans a taste of whats coming because the game take too much time to make and thats not easy, this is not a cheap ass game like forza or PGR with an apartment like studio so STFU and go tell MS to hurry up and send back your 3shitty and enjoy your arcade racing or what ever the hell your playing..

@a.j
You are an idiot if you pay for a demo!
March 27th, 2008
I don’t think anyone should buy this because it was release in Japan good while ago for free. If you just make another account as if you were in japan you can get it for free. Two of friends already did this and have been playing it for a while. So why pay.
March 27th, 2008
I heard there is actually alot in Prologue, something like at least 20 hours of gaming.

What the!: and The Future of Sega: - Idiots
It has 6 tracks with reverse, 70 cars and an online mode for up to 16 palyers. Hardly a demo now is it? If this was MS they’d charge you for the online mode as well.
Oh, and What the!:, Micorsoft screw their customers for more and more money by releasing below spec, faulty hardware that you have to pay everytime you want to add to it. Only one company that drains your money and that is definately MS, but then again the xbox slaves are always willing to pay aren’t you?

@ jokerz
LOL..You really are an IDIOT!! Just admit it, you’ll feel much better.
Face it, it’s a DEMO!!
March 27th, 2008
It isnt free in Japan like someone said.
It isnt quite a demo. Much more than that. What racing game demo do you get that much content.
I am a huge GT fan and am very interested to see the new interface and some of the new tuning modes. And very excited to play with the steering wheel view they finally put in. Over all i think the £18 i spent will be money well spent.

@ Aj
You need to calm down and have a juice box. And please, if you are going to rant, use more than one sentence. It is difficult to decipher the point you are trying to make with such poor sentence structure.
And lets be honest, you are paying 2/3 of the price of a full game, for less than 2/3 of a game. It’s just an expensive tease.
March 27th, 2008
I have a PS3 and have been looking forward to GT but I will not pay for a demo, there may be a lot of content in it but it is still a demo.
Shame on sony for charging for this. They know it will sell by the bucket load plus shift PS3’s.
They are just taking advantage of the massive fan base this game has built up.

im buying it tomorrow can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

March 27th, 2008
40 american dollar for a demo? that’s not tru, that can’t be tru, hell no,
March 27th, 2008
In the UK we pay 40 pounds for a game which is the equivalent of 80 dollars. GT5p is 18 pounds here which is half price basically. I dont mind paying that for this game. I will tell you if i think it was worth it in terms of content and value when i get the game tomorow.

March 28th, 2008
i have 2/3 of them. I dont play them anymore but it is only 18 to gt5p
March 28th, 2008
It’s a cleaver marketing idea. The fans will buy it because they are starved for more GT after the got a taste with the downloadable demo.
What I dislike about this is how Sony is going about the release of GT5. They know the fans want it and god know they do need games this year, so Sony decides to release a “prologe” … I don’t know what they are doing or what is taking so long to develop this game, but there is no reason they should be taking this long of need a Prologe. GT5 is still overall inferior to Froza and what I’d like to see, that I’m not seeing, is the Polyphonix team making better AI and actually doing crash modeling that is like and should be better then Forza’s. Then the wait would be nice.
I just don’t want to see a racing game come out in “episodes” that Sony is thinking about that will end up wasting more money only to find that the game isn’t any better from the first episode jsut more cars and a few more tracks..
GT5 has the graphics down.. ok move on Poly and make the game fun to play and more realistic
March 29th, 2008
@ A.J…..Son of a fucking BITCH!!! Are you that tard!? Like the guy said, why in the fucken Hell would you pay money for a demo!? Ha! Would you buy a car that is half made, and then buy the other half a year from now??? LMAO what a weener
@ Jokerz…..First off you disgruntled FUCK! I’m not an XBot! I could give a cock less about Microshaft, becuase I agree Microsoft does try to drain the gamers money. And secondly, do you know how retarded you sound??? 6 tracks? Wow I guess the next Indiana Jones game will have 3 bonus stages! Ha ha ha!
Hellstation fans always make me laugh!
March 30th, 2008
6 Tracks but there is different combos of them. Reverse of them and the can be cut off at points and made slightly different.
Only cost 18 pound. Worth it for me so far. Mainly cos i love gran turismo.
