Massachusetts lawmakers are discussing a bill today that would restrict minors from buying games deemed “too violent” by the state, on the grounds that video games are similar to pornography.

The chances are that at this stage of the current generation console war, you have taken the plunge, and bought at least one of the three consoles on offer, either the Sony PS3, Microsoft Xbox 360, or the Nintendo Wii. Cue a new contender, in the form of PC manufacturer Acer!

Nary a match of Halo 3 can go by online without one player threatening to do sexually explicit things to another player’s mother, or one player’s ethnic background being verbally assaulted by the entirety of a party’s group – and it isn’t specific to Halo. Are gamers being irreparably damaged by verbal abuse in online gaming, and if so, where does the line get drawn?

There’s a reason why Sony won’t release a PS3 firmware update to add in-game XMB to the PS3: the addition would mean the end of humanity, or maybe the company’s just waiting until it’s perfect.

The original Prey was far from the best first person shooter but neither was it the worst. It’s been about two years since Prey was released and the developer behind Prey 2 currently has no other projects on its plate.

There’s been a lot made of how the death of HD DVD and the emergence of Blu-ray as the high definition format of the future will help Sony and the PS3 in the battle for console supremacy. But according to Microsoft, discs are dead, and the future is going to be entirely made up of digital downloads.

The hardware sales figures for the US are in once again, and well, not much has changed since last time. Nintendo are still dominating, the PS3 just pipping the Xbox 360, and the PS2 continuing to defy its old age.

After several rumors that reported the Xbox 360 would get a Blu-Ray drive eventually, Microsoft is trying to put that notion to rest. HD-DVD lost the high-def disc format war to Blu-Ray and the HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360 has been discontinued; existing stock will be sold until the drives are gone. The company has now said it is going to focus on digital downloads and Xbox live.
