Xbox 360, PS3, Wii fanboys need slice of reality pie

April 11, 2008

So maybe not Wii fanboys…but then again, most fanboys can’t formulate proper sentences or employ rhetoric in a fashion that is at all convincing. Fanboys are a rather recent product of both the internet and the production of competitive consoles from large corporations like Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo; the real question is, exactly what does all the shouting and name calling accomplish?

More than anything, I’m confused; we at Gamer.Blorge.com are a diverse group of writers, using everything from original Nintendos to high-end gaming PC rigs. We write stories with the intention of representing objectivity. A job is a job, and we take it seriously.

However, that doesn’t stop readers from spewing forth the nastiest comments about what kind of fanboys we are. What I’m wondering is this: if you are a fanboy who is actively posting on the internet, what do you hope to accomplish?

Logically, it would make sense that someone who believes so strongly that one console should be used over the other would want, more than anything, to convert gamers to the console of his or her choice, right? To some extent, that happens; I for one (just to clear the record for all fanboys in the room), used to game on a high end PC rig. I switched my gaming focus to the 360, but after encountering plenty of problems with Microsoft customer support, I finally cashed in my chips for a PS3.

From my viewpoint, each console has merit (minus the Wii…who are you Wii fanboys trying to kid?). If someone picks up another console, or switches over, it probably didn’t have too much to do with the flaming comments that are tossed back and forth all over the internet. The closest thing to a fanboy conversion might be someone who switches consoles because all of his friends are on the same system; that doesn’t mean fanboy comments had any effect whatsoever!

There is nothing wrong with voicing your opinions or trying to convince people that your console of choice is superior. However, if that is actually your intent, why not try to employ rhetoric and strong argumentative fashion without all the name calling (and god forbid you use proper diction), and we can all respect each other’s choices? At the very least, I’d be happier seeing LOLspeak used, rather than broken diction and name calling.

Either way, whatever I have to say about fanboyism won’t have any more effect than the comments fanboys make. What do you readers think? Are fanboys immature and incapable of original thought, or do they have valid points (especially when they insult people’s moms)?

Well atleast im glad that u made the right choice with ps3 at last!!! arrange it and we ll have a killer time at warhawk! hoha! lol

  2. Flow-Factory:

Yeah man, Good choice, the 360 was the best selling console only when it was in the market by itself, in 2006; 2007 belonged to the wii and 2008 clearly belongs to the ps3, so much for competition. Microsoft could stuck it all in their mouth, the can’t compete with none of the current consoles thats why they started first. Back to COD4 have fun with you reliable ps3, we dont have any games “right” but as many as we have, we could play without RROD crashing in.

  3. dustinmyles:

I think you made the wisest choice possible, especially under your circumstances. I, personally, decided to wait for the PS3 and not buy any other console because I KNEW it had the SUPERIOR hardware for this generation. And that’s an objective fact. I am American and I would love for nothing more than the 360 to be on top. Alas, after analyzing the situation OBJECTIVELY, I had to admit that Japan has produced a superior machine to that of Microsoft. As was the case with PSP, my decision seems to have been correct, and my predictions about both the PSP and PS3 have thus far, come to fruition (and no, this is NOT based on personal “confirmation bias”). My current prediction is that 2008 WILL be the year of the PS3. When it comes to the Wii, I personally think that Nintendo has succeeded in duping every sucker who purchased a game cube into buying ANOTHER gamecube with a different controller; and that is my SUBJECTIVE OPINION. Althought is OBJECTIVE FACT that the Wii is – in many more ways that one – a reitteration/rehash of last gen hardware technology: with the exception of a nextgen controller system.
(And I don’t blame/fault Nintendo for doing this either. They saw for themselves that the gamecube was an abysmal failure and decided “Hey how can we rectify our [gamecube] losses while simultaneously not breaking our budget?”; and the solution was to do some minor revamps to the hardware, add motion sensive context as the interface mechanism, give it a NEW name, focus ALOT more extensively on our PR effort and not just rely on the idea that because we are Nintendo we will sell alot of units, AND wala! We’ll make billions.)

This article sucks so much fucken suck, it FUCKS! It fucken sucks so much COCK sucker mother fucker BULL FUCK THAT!!!!

But the thing that really mother fucken ass lick balls ass shit fuck ass balls BALLS pissed me off, was when you complained about fanboyism!

It’s clearly evident that the PS3 swings the bigger cock compared to 360’s small tweener because PS3 has Blue Ray, Dual Shock 3, install hardrive, 4 usb ports, Metal Gear Solid 4, Haze, Kill Zone 2, and a bunch of other shit.

Now 360 is fun, but not as fun as PS3! And by the way, PS3 has WAAAAAY better graphics than 360 or the Wii, just to clear that up!

And the PS3 has a sleeker design than the 360…..

But fuck off balls shit got hell damn balls boobs fuck me BITCH!!!!!!

  5. bluesuedeshoes:

    @Triston McIntyre

I for one wholeheartedly agree with your article, with regards to fanboyism. I personally take exception to the crude butchering of my language (English) in the thousands of chat rooms that litter the internet. The misplaced passion in most fan boy posts doesn’t bother that much as I feel its an indication that most fan boys (and girls, lets not discriminate) have absolutely no lives whatsoever.

The other thing though about most posts on the internet is that the subtle nuiances of conversation are difficult to impossible to recreate in the written word without explaining that you are either being sarcastic, angry or otherwise. Take persianhero and Flow-Factory, the subject of this article has either sailed straight over their heads or they are being subtlely sarcastic. While I’m kinda hoping that the “The Future of Sega” is aiming for comedy and irony (we can but hope).

For the avoidance of confusion, I hail from Great Britain. I used to work within the industry and I own all three of the current systems. My take is this, the Wii is great for none gamers, kids families etc. it doesn’t do much for me as a so-called “hardcore” gamer. My 360 has a fantastic online service in Live, when it works, yes Microsoft I’m talking about Christmas. The 360 also has a good choice of exclusive games, mainly FPS games but hey I enjoy them. I’ve also owned my PS3 from day one. Unlike my 360 (and Wii for that matter) it has yet to break on me. All round its a solid piece of hardware, I’m sure its not bullet proof, but it has yet to cause me heart ache. I’m also quite happy with the games line-up on PS3 as it is a varied spectrum of genre’s.

When all is said and done, I’m not going to rant and rave about which system is best or not, because it is a waste of my time. It is after all my subjective opinion and is not based in fact and it could only be based in fact if we narrowly defined what “best” means. Also why the hell should I feel allegiance to any multi-national corporation? It may have escaped most fan boys attention but Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo do not love you, they are simply after your money.

  6. jesse:

lol. how ironic. the author here is trying to tell off people who think their console, and here you are comparing game consoles.

  7. Jonny:

People get all up in arms and preach about how their console is better not because they are really confident in what they are saying, but rather, they do it because of their _lack_ of confidence. If you had complete confidence in what you believed, then who cares what other people might think? What other people think doesn’t change what you know to be true. However, when you are unsure yourself, other people casting doubt on your beliefs makes you even more nervous and you feel the need to argue with them, not only to to prove to them that you are right, but also to prove it to yourself.

  8. Matt:

You’ve got to admit that someone denoucing you of crimes worthy of you being taken to the ICC for chosing one console or the other adds passion to the whole buisness. Otherwise its just a matter of going down the shops and getting a toy. Wheres the controversy in that?

The fanboy that you’ve never met that takes time out of their day to take an interest in what you’ve decided to do and make comment should be commended although perhaps avoided in real life if at all possible.

So heres a cheer going out to all these wondeful people that feel compelled to coment on other peoples purchases in the form of the badly written word; the bitter 360 owners (esp those with the HD drive ho ho), the smug Wii owners who never actually switch the thing on and the PS3 owners who clearly had too much money to spend (myself included) that sucked it up when there were no decent games for god knows how long. Who of course are nobody compared to the ridiculously geeky and far too wealthy PC owners system testing their rig with the new games rather than playing them as they update and fix the thing all the time.

Its a beautiful thing to hehold. The random use of capitalisation, the switch from shaky premise to baseless conclusion, the use of a semi text messaging come gamer speak insult that gets lost in the translation and the simple denunciation of facts that are worthy of the flat earth society.

I once posted on a similar subject about a year ago and ignited a ‘Flame war’ (what a beautiful description) that went for a month and had 60+ posters that mostly accused each other of various deviant sexual acts. Amazing! Beat that McIntyre.

Its just a shame that once their work is done having converted someone to their cause there is no welcoming committee, red carpet or even some kind of simple cermony to comemorate your wise choice and the joining of the ranks of the rightous.

Instead there is just the cold hard realisation that there is still more to do. ‘Others’ as it were that have not yet chosen the right path or worse yet those that are on the path to gamer hell for chosing the wrong console. They must be converted. You must join the ranks of the posters that care. You must and put aside your desire for praise and save them!

The fanboy cause is noble. A simple but impossible quest. I thank them all for their efforts and for making what I first thought of no more than a toy that I bought in a shop something so much more than that.

    God bless you all.

  9. winner:

    haha jesse, my thoughts exactly.

This author is one of the most unbiased authors on this site, no matter what system he owns. I can always expect a balanced article from this guy, regardless of whether Dave Parrack agrees with me.

  10. Cock Knocker:

Are you kidding me? The Xbox 360 is superior in every way except one. Blu-Ray. And Blu-Ray is only good for one thing, Blu-Ray movies.

I don’t know about you guys, but I buy my video game consoles for playing video games (I know. What a novel idea).

The PS3 is, and has been, a failure of epic proportions. The End

NIIIIIICE…. the BEST way of getting someone to take your comments seriously is to swear as much as you can….

This was a nice article… I dont think he was tryin to
compare the two consoles…. he was just writing about his experience…
If I say “I bought a PS3 after I bought my 360″ does that mean I hate one of them.. I am just stating facts… jeez people…

  12. G:

Strange that this site constantly feels it has to explain itself to it’s readers. Why is that? It’s no a secret Blorge doesn’t report news, “spin” is all that is posted here. Blorge looks for subjects that will bring advertisments, and hits from Goggle news.

I cringe at most of the trashy blog posts that are parked here.

Any piece of writing that contains minimal punctuation, poor grammar, bad spelling and an overload of foul language, will ALWAYS convey the impression of illiteracy, carelessness and low intelligence.

This can only be amplified when it occurs in a context better suited to unabbreviated text, such as this forum.

  14. The Future of Sega:

@bluesuedeshoes……uhhh anybody with common sense would know that I’m aiming for comedy. Duuuuuh! But people who actually sit down and explains hard fact details about why their console is so superior to others are the ones who really don’t have lives.

Personally, I have one. But I cant speak on your behalf….errrm. Now uuuuh……

  15. The Future of Sega:

@darkwhitehair…….Uh listen here you son of a FUCK!!! I don’t give a Wales cock, about cussing or not! No one ASKED for your smart ass remarks! So piss off. GO FUCK IN A DAMN HELL!!!…..

And who says swear anymore? What are you like 12 or something??? LMFAO…..

And to all you two faced FUCKS! Lets keep in mind that the PS3 is the better console. And always will be :)

  16. bob:

So much for the arguement that the average gamer is now a lot more mature these days. LOL

This site is a flame site pure and simple

  17. dave:

tryin not to fall into the typical fanboy trap, but inaccurate statements being thrown around are what get people worked up..ok, first point…the ps3 is NOT a games console. sony have always intended it to be a multimedia entertainment system from day one. games are 50% of its target audience. its been designed to play games, films, internet and even run alternative operating systems. i dont see whats wrong with that idea. means we all get more value for our money!

and the xbox360 superior in every way except bluray? what rubbish. the ps3 is superier in design (anyone else notice the huge ugly power brick on the xbox360), reliability, graphics, features, connectivity. im actually finding it hard to think of one feature that the xbox is superior at!

and the famous old guff about the xbox360 having more games, yawn. yes it has. but quantity isnt quality. and since the ps3 has been released 95% of all games are dual format and released on both machines. so the only extra titles are the 2 year old ones most people probably arent playing anymore.lol (or already got on the ps2)

The ps3 has been out 74 weeks and sold 11.6million worldwide….the xbox360 sold 9.5million in the first 74 weeks it was out…. so how on earth is the ps3 a failure?? lol.

but after all that id just like to say that ive got an xbox360 aswell and see no reason why we cant enjoy owning both consoles. wheres the unwritten law that says if u like the xbox360 you have to slag off the ps3 or vice versa. all youre doing is missing out on the fun to be had. i can enjoy gears of war, mass effect, bioshock on the xbox…and GT5 prologue, uncharted, resistance, heavenly sword on the ps3 :)

  18. The Future of Sega:

Yeah you tell them Dave! PS3 bukkakies everything! :)

  19. c.j:

I’ve been a fan of playstation and gran turismo since childhood but arguing is not what i do with other people, I just let it go on what ever they say, I had an Xbox 1 since the first day it came out but not planning to buy the 360 because of those issue i’ve been reading for a while. Most of my electronics are Sony brand TV,Radio,System,Computers etc. And I was impressed on how reliable Sony made this electronics, so I guess I made a right choice on choosing this brand ever since, never had a problem except one when someone hit my TV and broke it, but all in all I trust Sony with their brand..

  20. winner:

    haha bukkake…

  21. Supporter:

I for one agree with this article. I also think that the author choice of taking out his chips and buying a PS3 is based on a good reasonable logic. However, here in Bahrain the story is different. Even though I own a PS3, not all my friends does. Xbox 360 here has been hacked and now its playing pirated game copies. Thats why people are finding it cheap to have an Xbox 360 (with all its RROD) just so you will play all games available for less than $7 a game. My choice to buy a PS3 has been made in Australia when the copy right laws were enforced more severely. But now I am starting to appreciate my choice as my friends would pay anything to buy my PS3, so Thats prove that 2008 is the year of the PS3 cause not even the fortified copies of 360 games can keep gamers from seeing whats coming for the PS3.

  22. Cock Knocker:

As I said before, the Xbox 360 is superior (other than Blu-Ray). This has been a known fact since November 13th 2006, when this 11 page UNBIASED article was written.

    http://dpad.gotfrag.com/portal/story/35372/?spage=9

I’m not trying to say the Xbox 360 makes the PS3 look like an Atari 2600, as most of you would make it seem . That would be silly.

Also, When I said the PS3 was a failure, I meant in sales. This is why the head of Sony’s gaming division was forced to resign over it. That is just fact.

Anyway, to be more clear, I am just saying the Xbox 360 is superior (slightly) to the PS3. The above article I posted and the research put into it, proves it. Anybody saying anything contrary to the article is just spinning facts. And that’s that.

    Good Day

  23. darkwhitehair:

    @ The Future of Sega
Again I must applaud you for your wonderfull choice of words and excellent grammar….
    BRAVO!!!
Maybe you forgot to take your medication little boy…
The question is.. what can you achieve by your comments??? Do you think just because you show “Die-Hard” support for Sony… they may name the next console after you?? or perhaps give you a big fat paycheck???
I can just imagine it.. Playstation 4 : The Future of Sega edition…

  24. Spiterod:

Here’s the thing, PS3 owners/want to be owners who post vitriolic remarks on websites (fanboys) must all be between the ages of 5 and 13, or are developmentally delayed. Why? Their language and reasoning skills have yet to develop. Spend more time playing your machines if they are really so wonderful.

  25. Neil:

I am a PS3 fanboy (fanman would probably be more accurate ;-) ) but I understand the authors comments. It does bug me when discussions and comparisons always seem to end up being slanging matches. I usually only post replies when people give false information or try to pass their own opinion off as 100 percent truth. I do ask though that you don’t tar all fans of particular consoles with the same brush. Some of us actually research our statements before posting them and don’t throw insults.

@The Future of Sega – that is one of the funniest postings I have seen in a long time. I almost fell off my chair laughing. Nicely done.

  26. CAD:

I believe the reason i find more PS3 people on the net is because there online sucks. 360 Boys are having fun online. And why am I here. Because this is what I do in my spare time at work. You PS3 Fanboys flood the internet. Superior online and a stack of superior games keeps my ithernet cable connected to my 360 not my Laptop.

  27. The Future of Sega:

Lmao @ darkwhite hair…..Ooooh you disloyal FUCK! What is the matter with you???? I don’t take any medication you fool fuck! Are you from Earth man???

You sound like Bowser’s penis from Super Mario world or something…..And HELL YEAH they will name the next console after me! When the next Sega comes out they will name it after me, Segalicious Supreme!

@ Neil….Hey thanks man! What part of my postings was so funny? Maybe I’ll use it in other posts :)

  28. tab:

“I believe the reason i find more PS3 people on the net is because there online sucks.”

Yes it sucks because its free and we have dedicated servers and not p2p crap…

“Keeps my ithernet cable connected to my 360 not my Laptop.”

Hmmm note to self, contact local electronics store and check if the sales figures for PS3’s match those of switches and/or routers…

    One ethernet cable… Classic.

  29. darkwhitehair:

XD “Bowsers Penis from super mario world”
Lay off the gay manga porn dude… we are trying to have a mature discussion about consoles here…
How am I disloyal?? You dont even know who I am loyal to…
‘Till then… stay away from cough medicines and dont operate and heavy machinery…

  30. TFS:

“We write stories with the intention of representing objectivity.”

“From my viewpoint, each console has merit (minus the Wii…who are you Wii fanboys trying to kid?).”

    Hmmmmm.

Why do I keep clicking on links to this site when they appear in Google News? It’s the web equivalent of “car crash TV”.

  31. kevin:

if you’re a true gamer it doesn’t make sense to “cash in” for a console with less games, subpar online features, rumble-less controller, and weaker looking/playing multiconsole game versions. The fact you would, colors you as fanboy simply because you’re buying on loyalty and (broken) promises from sony’s pr. The clear superior gaming machine is the 360. Now that you’ve admitted you have no 360, how can we accept your review or opinion of 360 games? we can’t. stop whining about the xmas outage…MS gave people free stuff for the inconvenience. (and it was a small inconvenience given the YEARS xbox live has been in service) Has sony EVER given their online users free loot for their online problems? no. you, sir, are the very fanboy you’re preaching about. I guess we’ll never get rid of fanboys. Trash talking is/has been/always will be a part of gaming. it’s all tongue and cheek anyway. i don’t think any gamer really thinks a company gives a rat’s ass about us anyway. the proof is in the stupid prices for gaming nowadays. my two.

  32. Gerry and the Pacemakers:

kevin, you personify the term ‘fanboy’ to the fullest,

  33. Arvis:

    Kevin,

It’s gotten to the point where I actually click on these stories LOOKING for your posts.

Objectivity is important. Looking at only the negative aspects of a console is stupid. Looking at only the positive aspects of a console is also stupid. You’re actually managing to do both of these things at the same time.

Look, you obviously like interacting with people online, right? Hence why you always post in these blogs. So, aren’t you excited about Home? I hear you and your buddies will be able to explore in-game areas and maps with your Home avatar, plan out attack strategies, discover unique game content, etc. Doesn’t that sound cool to you at all?

All I’m saying is that admitting that the PS3 is has some neat features won’t make the 360 rock any less. Right? So come on, man. Let it out. Say something nice about the PS3. I know you can do it. :)

    -Arvis

  34. The Future of Sega:

    @darkwhitehair Lmfao ha ha ha….sigh….what a weener :P ….Alright, I’m done. I’ve had my fun on here and now it’s officially boring….

Hey I was wondering; I purchased two dual shock 3 controllers. And the only games that are compatible with them are Resistance and Warhawk. I mean, what the FUCKEN SHIT man! That pisses me off!!!

Is Sony that tard not to already have the other games programmed for rumble!? Jesus Christ Almighty!!!!!

I also own a 360 and Halo 3 is pretty sweet! I love playing my music in the game. And why the ass fuck can’t PS3 do the same thing!??! FUCK!!!

  35. kevin:

arvis – i have to say, Home does not interest me in the least (nor does second life). When i’m online, i want to be gaming. There is no features of the ps3 the 360 doesn’t have or has better, barring bluray. But you and i know bluray was not put into the ps3 for gaming, nor has it shown any benefit over dvd9 for gaming. True it has more space, but what’s the point? it’s not like sony games are longer or bigger or look better than those on dvd9. I can’t say much nice about the ps3. the price sucks. the games are extremely “meh” with the exception of 1 or 2, the multiconsole versions are better on the 360, online gaming on the ps3 is sketchy at best, the lack of voicecom included w/ the ps3 is unforgiveable, and finally GAMERS NEVER WANTED BLURAY OR THE SUBSEQUENT UPCHARGE IN PRICES FROM LAST GENERATION CAUSED BY BLURAY. i guess, if pressed, i’d say it has wifi…but it’s moot to me as my router is next to me tv, so wifi isn’t needed.

  36. kevin:

arvis – same here, bro. i actually enjoy your level headed-ness against my insane ramblings. good contrast and kills time at work, heh, heh…

  37. Arvis:

Amen to “kills time at work.” :)

  38. JD:

ps3 outsells 360 for thrid month in a row.
    http://play.tm/story/17419

  39. Arvis:

    Kevin,

I meant to tell you, the increase in the price of new video games at retail was actually not caused by Blu Ray. When asked, multiple representatives from the industry all said that, basically, next-gen games cost so much more money to make than last-gen games that, in order to turn a hefty enough profit, game sales had to be increased.
Since both Sony and Microsoft are pushing the limits with their consoles and games, a price increase is a natural consequence.

People do like to blame Blu Ray though. It’s a common misconception.

    -Arvis

  40. travis:

its all about anonymity. the internet allows people to be anonymous, so they say whatever they want with no consequence.

you take away the anonymity, and add some accountability and all the fanboys go away.

you wouldn’t want bob at work telling everyone about the ridiculous comments you made on such and such forum last night would you? no.

I think fanboy-ish arguments and talk must be very similar to what someone who could read minds must hear.

seriously, we all think to ourselves about how stupid someone is occasionally, but we’d never say it to their face….. thats what the internet is for… a place where everyone can be 12 years old again. I personally believe we all still are, we’ve just learned how to act all grown up and filter our comments

  41. gregory edcius:

this topic sucks if you wanted to be that objective dont be a sucker to put in it that you switched from 360 to ps3 thats just starting a flame war cause now ps3 fanboys are sucking your cock and 360 fanboys are ”again” defending their console
    my thoughts on this ???
your a moron your whole topic is screaming lets start a flame war if your really an adult shut the fuck up and leave the flamewars to the fanboys

and just to be clear i dont own a 360 or a ps3 and i dont want neither of them they both suck ill play my pc if i want high end graphics and for the fun factor i have my wii (pure for the fun not graphics) so shut the fuck up both consoles suck and you too

  42. kevin:

arvis – sorry, dude, but the huge price of the bluray drive in the ps3 was singled out by sony, and industry pundits, as THE reason for the $600 price tag. it’s also the reason bluray players are STILL at $500. please join reality. Yes, ms upped the launch price by $100 (for which i would gladly kick Bach in the teeth for), but sony upped it by $300. Also, let’s not forget it costs around 3 times as much to author on a bluray disk than it does on a dvd. again, bluray being the culprit. i have no doubt the cost of development has gone up as it does. but that is not the reason for the huge upcharge in the ps3. this is why i get so frustrated with you. you ignore reality and spin sony’s pr.

  43. Arvis:

    Kevin,

I was mistaken. I thought you were referring to the increase in price of individual games, which is caused by higher production costs.

Yes, the Blu Ray drive made the PS3 more expensive than it had to be, but it does come with advantages (native 1080p, uncompressed 7.1 digital surround, etc, etc, stuff you already know about). If you don’t want those advantages, cool. That’s your call, there’s no reason you would need it. My roommate happened to get an HD LCD television, I got a nice tax return, and I wanted to play Oblivion, so for me the advantages outweighed the hefty price tag.
Nothing wrong with that, is there?

    -Arvis

  44. kev:

nothing wrong at all…. if you’re one of the vast minority with a 1080p capable tv, a DD7.1, and a wireless home network. But to the VAST MAJORITY of us w/o such setups, it’s a complete waste of money and a needless upcharge. An advantage is only an advantage if the features can be taken advantage of. Otherwise, a waste of money.
