Mass Effect PC system requirements revealed
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Many of us have already played Mass Effect on the Xbox 360 but just to play it. In my opinion, you don’t really experience the game until it is played properly with a keyboard and mouse and the only way to do that is with a PC.
I don’t understand the attraction to console controllers and I don’t suppose I ever will. I was born and bread on PC gaming and it is my platform of choice; despite the fact that I will play console exclusive titles but only because I have no other choice to experience the game.
Those of you that feel like me can now breathe a sigh of relief because Mass Effect is closer to coming to the proper platform, PC. But, that aging beast of yours sitting in the corner collecting dust won’t be up to the task of running it. While it does have fairly modest "recommended requirements," the processor speed gets my attention which I hope is based off a single core processor.
According to StrategyInformer here they are,
"Minimum System Requirements:
Operating System:
Windows XP or Vista
Processor:
2.4+GHZ Intel or 2.0+GHZ AMD
Memory:
1 Gigabyte Ram (XP)
2 Gigabyte Ram (Vista)
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 6 series(6800GT or better)
ATI 1300XT or better (X1550, X1600 Pro and HD2400 are below minimum system requirements)
Hard Drive Space:
12 Gigabytes
Sound Card:
DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and driversRecommended System Requirements:
Operating System:
Windows XP or Vista
Processor:
2.6+GHZ Intel or 2.4+GHZ AMD
Memory:
2 Gigabyte Ram
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX or higher.
ATI X1800 XL series or higher
Hard Drive Space:
12 Gigabytes
Sound Card:
DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers – 5.1 sound card recommended"
Well, there you have it; take it or leave it. Though, I have played it on the Xbox 360, I can barely tolerate the controls, I’m going to buy the PC version simply out of principal, this game was meant to be played with a keyboard and mouse; you’re crazy to think otherwise.

Playing it on the console has its advantages: Big TV, comfy couch, no carpal tunnel syndrome…
Seriously, though, I discovered this site as a good way to kill time at work, but I’ve been waiting to find out the PC specs for this game for months now, and I never knew how I was going to find out. The fact that you guys just saved me the trouble of hunting down this info myself just made this site one of my Favorites.
Great reporting, even if you do call your console-preferring readers names.

You could of spared us your fanboyish PC views Mr. Schlaffer. I’ve been gaming on PC and console since the beginning of time and I can play with a controller just as good as I can with a keyboard and mouse. I am a “real gamer”, you are not. Some of us are more diverse than others ;). I have the 360 version and it is amazing, but I will admit that I’m more looking forward to playing it on PC. Those recommended requirements are nothing compared to what I have under the hood of my baby.
