How Wii Fit will help Nintendo crush PS3 and Xbox 360
By Dave Parrack
There are some huge games coming out this year, with Grand Theft Auto IV, Metal Gear Solid IV, and Final Fantasy XIII if it makes it out in time. But in terms of sales, one game will be right up there, and given it’s one console exclusivity, will ensure the Wii stays at number one in the hardware sales charts.
That game, if you hadn’t already guessed by the give-away title is Wii Fit, coming out in Europe and the U.S. over the course of the next month. Wii owners in Japan have already been lucky enough to get their hands on the game, and 2 million of them saw fit to hand over their hard earned Yen.
The Wii has been a phenomenal success since its release, managing to quickly sell in huge quantities around the world, and become a pop culture hit to boot. And it’s safe to assume that the release of Wii Fit will see the Wii further trounce the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Hardcore gamers, more used to first person shooters and beat-em-ups, may well deride Wii Fit as a novelty, but that won’t stop the millions of Wii owners who lapped up Wii Sports, as well as Brain Training on the DS, from pre-ordering the game, and further swelling Nintendo’s coffers.
Even beyond the main game, which using the sensor enabled Balance Board, will see users compete in 40 exercises, including yoga, muscle workouts, and aerobic exercises, once the game has been bought and installed in people’s homes, Nintendo can then develop other games using the peripheral, and sell even more stock.
So while committed Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 gamers are fretting about trying to beat the last level on the latest high profile, graphic heavy release, Wii owners will be getting fitter while at home enjoying themselves, and Nintendo will sell more Wiis, and make even more profit than they already have done in this generation.
Who said the Wii was a joke console?

You didnt talk about Brawl…. or Mario Kart Wii…
Tough year for both “Nex-Gen” consoles…
No matter how much the Wii is a “novelty item” or a “dust collector” or just “plain crap”
They are making more money than the other two companies… and THATS what it matters… and THATS good business…
XD

Wii only makes money for Nintendo not third party developers, they make more from the 360 and PS3, thats good business. And Wii fit won’t make you fit, ask any trainer, it’s just a game.

Yeah you really know what your talking about… ‘Wii owners who lapped up Wii Sports, as well as Brain Training on the DS, from pre-ordering the game, and further swelling Microsoft’s coffers’ that would be NINTENDO genius…
And another point, you completely missed: The Wii is a novelty that the average consumer on the street has picked up on, the serious gamers who spend the most on new software are the PS3, Xbox and PC gamers, you know the ones that have been around since the beginning. I say let Nintendo have that market, their games are taylor-made for the mass consumer who likes simple and inoffensive tripe, good luck to them because the novelty will ware off eventually…

James, that was a typo, which has now been fixed. Maybe you should fix taylor-made and ware…
April 21st, 2008
yes James the Wii SUCKS!!! its a novelty item and people will HATE it in a coupla months…
Atleast Nintendo dont have to spend 1 Billion dollars fixing them or having to extend their warranty… neither are they making a loss for every console they are selling (no Im not a Wii fanboy.. just a realist)
Overall… Nintendo is making a LOT of money… sio please excuse them for not heeding your “Super-Awesome” comment…

Ive got a wii and ps3 and though the family like mario kart and wii sports we still only own 3 games for it because most titles just arent great whereas I buy a lot more games for the ps3 and play online or split screen with family and friends. My wife wants wii fit but I’m not about to spend another £70 on a peripheral that only comes out when friends are round.

I’ll take this article with a grain of salt, since a quick Google News search tells me that Wii owners aren’t really buying games, at least not in the numbers that PS3 and 360 owners are anyways.
So I see one of two things happening:
1. Not many people buy Wii Fit, because they can’t think of an answer to the age-old question: “Why?”
2. Lots of people buy it, and all of Nintendo’s “killer apps” for the next 10 years are non-games that are an affront to the generation that grew up with the NES.
I love the Wii as a gaming console, but I honestly do feel insulted by Wii Fit. This is not what I signed up for when I got a Wii. Sorry if anyone takes this opinion personally.

A lot of traditionally non-gamers have boosted sales of the Wii console, and those who enjoyed Wii Sports are sure to want to take things a step further and buy Wii Fit, maybe using it as a slimming tool. Nintendo say that they have 10 more games in the making that will make use of the Wii balance board so as long as Nintendo keep producing so called ‘novelties’, I’m sure people will keep buying!

I don’t understand why people feel the need to bash Nintendo and the wii. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. I love the wii. The wii has something for everyone. Nintendo is winning over a new audience while keeping the old fans happy. It’s a good thing. I am already into fitness so I am getting wii fit. I think it will be fun, plus it might help me burn a few extra calories a day. Wii fit might inspire people who don’t already exercise to start an exercise program. People like Nintendo because they’re always doing something new. The wii is not a fad. It’s not going away anytime in the near future.

The Nintendo Wii….it..it needs to rot in hell…..in Satan’s asshole. But just to show you how inhumanely atrocious this shitload of FUCK is, so many retarded people actually like that garbage!
Now I can understand little kids and toddlers liking it but come on people, it’s a DAMN TOY, thats all!!!!! In that case why don’t you morons go buy a Megazord and Dragonzord to play with! The Wii does not compare to the Xbox 360 and PS3. That’s like comparing a penis and a vagina. They have NO comparison!
I would rather buy a Sega Genesis or the first and 2nd seasons of Power Rangers, than to EVER purchase a Nintendo Wii!!! The Nintendo Wii SUCKS, and will ALWAYS SUCK!!!!!!!

This is to the Future of Sega:
Get a grip! You sound like an idiot. Not everyone on the planet needs to see blood/guts/gore down to the infiite pixel to enjoy a game. News flash.. Wii does something that Sega & Microsoft can’t.. It brings people together and gets their lazy asses off the couch and actually doing something other than mashing buttons.
