Gamers will get last laugh by outliving haters of PS3, Xbox 360, Wii

Gamers will get last laugh by outliving haters of PS3, Xbox 360, WiiIt is a dark time we gamers live in; witch hunters like Jack Thompson and the rest of the media try to keep us down at every turn, politicians search daily for ways to squash the creativity of game developers, and parents are apparently too stupid to recognize that their own faulty parenting, not games, are the cause of their kids’ corruption. There is, however, a light at the end of the tunnel…at some point they’ll all be dead, and then only gamers will be left in their stead!

Okay, perhaps that is slightly morbid if you think on it too much, but one writer is determined to snub his nose at all those naysayers who would hurt the gaming world. Richard Bartle, writer for The Guardian, says the most inevitable thing in life, aside from taxes of course, will eventually mean vindication for gamers everywhere.

Based on some statistics of people living in the UK, Bartle estimates that right now, over half the folks inhabiting those two islands were born in 1969; that might not seem too significant initially, but within a matter of years, the majority of people in the UK (and, presumably, the rest of the world) will have at least played, or even better, grown up playing video games.

Those people that are hellbent on destroying video games will either be gone or in the minority; they had better hope games don’t have a vengeful streak and go on a witch hunt of old gamer haters, eh?

Of course, that certainly doesn’t mean that things will get any easier right now; in fact, his whole article has some depressing undertones…why would you need to write an article explaining that somehow, someday, gamers won’t be oppressed, if there’s any chance in hell something good might happen soon?

The truth of the matter is we are drawing very close to a time when decisions are made about video games by governments worldwide; perhaps the most effective thing gamers can do as a community is to emerge from the dank basements they inhabit in their parents’ homes and vote or call their representatives when such legislation hits the chopping block. Granted, they can probably do that from the basement, but…eh…it really won’t kill you to get some sunlight, I promise.

If we all stood up and realized that the tax system is corrupt then we might actually be fighting something worthy, but being slaves to the bankers is what everyone is happy with so this is pointless.
