We’re now less than a week away from what promises to be the biggest multi-format game release of 2008, that of Grand Theft Auto IV. And as expected the sales battle between Sony and Microsoft has begun in earnest, as the respective companies want the PS3 and Xbox to gain an advantage.

As we at Blorge.com are apparently fanboys or haters of whatever console we choose to address in any article here, the next little bit of journalism should take most haters by surprise: Sony is only hurting itself and the Playstation 3 gamer base by delaying the much-acclaimed Home longer and longer. There has to be more than one bewildered blogger and writer on the internet who is wondering exactly why, in a matter of days, many websites, developers, and writers have been blasting Nintendo for its humble little game console, the Wii. What, did the Wii make a bad ethnic joke?

The Nintendo Wii has done phenomenally well since its launch, despite having some definite hardware deficiencies when compared to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. However, one developer thinks it has addressed at least one of those issues.

A reader comment got me to thinking about the varying types of gamers; one is content to sit down and play games for hours on end, the other is content to play a game for a few minutes, put it down and go do something else. No one ever thought to serve both markets and only one company is serving one almost exclusively, Nintendo.

There is a revision coming to the PS3 at some point later this year but the time frame remains an enigma. But, now it is believed to be coming in August with new, cooler running Cell and RSX graphic chips. The PS3 hasn’t even reached the "break even" point for Sony yet.

There are some huge games coming out this year, with Grand Theft Auto IV, Metal Gear Solid IV, and Final Fantasy XIII if it makes it out in time. But in terms of sales, one game will be right up there, and given it’s one console exclusivity, will ensure the Wii stays at number one in the hardware sales charts.

Over the first three months of the year, we ran a poll to find out which console will dominate in 2008. As well as the three main contenders of PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, there were votes for some interesting choices – choices added by our seemingly mentally unfit readers here on GAMER.BLORGE.

The official NPD sales figures for the US gaming industry were finally released yesterday, and they showed the Wii massively beating the Xbox 360 and PS3, while the Xbox just pipped the PS3 to second place in the home console battle. All three companies have now responded to the sales data, and all spin it to their own advantages.
