PS3 with Blu-Ray overtakes Xbox 360 in Europe - Wii still way ahead

According to recent sales reports, the PlayStation 3 by Sony is beating the pants off the Xbox 360 by Microsoft in Europe. That’s fantastic news for the gamer’s loyal to Sony out there.
The one thing that calls the numbers into some question may be that they were released by Sony itself. Can numbers released from the company claiming to win the sales battle be trusted?
Don’t get me wrong, I love the PlayStation line myself, but I take any data that comes from a company and promotes that company with a grain of salt. In fact, I’m not sure anyone is really winning the so-called “console wars”.
XBox 360 is running into a series of issues with unhappy customers dealing with poor customer service, broken consoles, trashed DVDs and more, while PlayStation keeps hitting a brick wall due to price (which may change if prices fall as expected during the recession). Meanwhile the Wii, a console that has grabbed the attention of a whole new set of customers not previously interested in gaming, keeps in high demand (possibly manufactured).
According to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s David Reeves, the PlayStation has been outselling Xbox 360 in the UK since as early as October 2007. Reeves also claims that 12 million PSP handheld consoles and 48 million PlayStation 2s had been sold in the UK. If those numbers are true, what is keeping the Wii in such high demand accross the pond?
The PlayStation 3 is priced significantly higher than the Xbox 360 in Europe (£299 as compared to Microsoft Xbox’s 360 at £159). I think the PlayStation 3 brings a little more to the table with its stunning Blu-Ray player and easy to use wireless capabilities.
The Xbox 360 also suffers from a continued lack of great titles (Halo 3 is a great game, for example, but it isn’t something everyone is interested in playing). Meanwhile, the lowly Wii keeps gaining market share, sneaking up behind both power consoles with its non-gamer oriented design.

Wii is way late to the game competing against PS2. When it will catch PS2 in sales and titles is relevant, not Wii vs PS3 and Xbox360. Just because it was released so late doesn’t make it of this generation.

hmm… to the writer…
when did MS release an Xbox “260″???
and many people (9 million) are interested in playing Halo 3…. but after Geow and Bioshock and COD 4 and Haze and Orange Box and Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 and Advanced Warfighter…. and the grandfather of them ALL!!! Crysis… after ALL these games (specially Crysis… I LOVE that game) Halo 3 pales in comparison… its fun to play… but not a lot of improvements that make it stand out in the crowd… thought the sales are something to look at… maybe they’ll use all this revenue properly in the next game…

Microsofts large price cut in EU was a specific strategy kevin….go learn something. I am well aware that all consoles prices reduce over time. 360 slashed cost in EU was no a samll reduction over time, it was a huge price cut to generate sales to counter the growing momentum of PS3 sales there that are better than 360 sales at the moment.
You guys sook and bleat about this site being pro-ps3 and blah, blah, blah, but you seem to convieniently forget that alot of the ps3 supporters here have positive things to say about the 360 (some negative too).
You guys cop so much because you come out all the time and preach nothing but “360 is better than ps3″. At least most of us can be positive about both systems when it is warranted.
Oh and MS lies and spins just as much as the other companies too m8.

spidey - yes, a strategy that has occurred in EVERY SINGLE CONSOLE AT THIS TIME IN ITS LIFECYCLE. gawd, you fanboys are really young and ignorant. to date; sony has not shown any evidence of outselling the 360, so until then, it hasn’t. thus voiding your idea a price drop has done nothing for the 360 in the EU.
