PS3 2.35 update doesn’t fix GTA IV problems, but there is a fix
By Danny Mendez
The latest Playstation 3 update just hit the airwaves, and many hoped it would fix the infamous Grand Theft Auto IV problems. Unfortunately for them, the 2.35 update has nothing to do with the crime-based epic.
The update improves the stability of some PS3 software, says the official Playstation 3 Knowledge Center. Although official details are vague, it seems the update is completely unrelated to Grand Theft Auto IV, which has been suffering from mysterious freezing issues on the Sony console.
The problems have been documented on YouTube, and in the linked videos, it happens near the end. We don’t suggest you watch the boring stuff in between, but to each his own (one of them has some slightly interesting narration).
Although Rockstar issued a couple patches for the game, a solid solution doesn’t seem to exist. Instead, gamers experiencing problems should contact SCEA Consumer Services. We’re unsure of the solution they’ll offer, but our guess is they’re going to assist customers in verifying whether or not they qualify for a replacement. Tough luck, sh!t happes, oh well, etc.

another one of Sony’s lies… just like the time they denied the existance of “Japanese Ring of Pearl Harbor anti democratic Death”…
theres no firmware upgrade… theres no Playstation 3… and yet this liberal anti american hippy PS3 fanboy web site publishes LIES!! ALL LIES!!!
wake up and smell the Viva Pinata people.. *coming to a LIVE arcade near you*… PS3 is DEAD…. DEAD!!! NO MORE!!! sony should just give up and bow out from the game industry… let the real big boys battle it out…
and as I predicted… the 360 has had a HUGE!!! victory over the PS3 AND the Wii combined this month…
and since the Wii isnt even a games console… its barely a weight machine… people are not going to buy it anymore… thats why sales are low… cus people dont trust the backbiting japs…

@dwh, I’m killing myself loling over here after reading that, lmao.
I’m gonna pun a quote from GTA4 and put it in context that kevin would speak: ready? here goes:
“What are you talking about? There are plenty of great traditions left, like hating open minded gamers and PS3 owners and spreading unsubstantiated slurs about them.”
There, kevin’s not here yet, so I think dwh and I filled the void.

wow..sucks for ps3 owners. oh well…it’s not like that’s a new feeling to ps3 owners… *puts on flame shield*.

sorry kevin, but your flame shield is useless. Idiots like youself can’t use them.

I think this may be the high point of the development problem for the PS3. If someone as well funded and established as RockStar can’t get it right, it doesn’t bode well for other developers for the system.
May 16th, 2008
@ Carl B, see: Bully: Xbox 360 edition and all the problems with that one. Does that mean it doesn’t bode well for other delevopers on that platform aswell?
May 16th, 2008
OA3 - good point. And the answer is yes, if there is a trend.
The one difference I can see is developers usually say the 360 is much easier to make games for.
May 16th, 2008
from what Ive read on the web.. I see that the 360 has problems with GTA 4 too… but the PS3 one gets hyped up for no reason…
and Rockstar has already released a patch for GTA 4 freeze on the PS3… Gamespot reported it… I dont know whether they released a patch for the 360 version though…
I think the patch was for the multiplayer bug…
but my copy works… thats all I care about… I love watching TV in Liberty City… its so cool… :’)

Do some research and think about reconsidering your position on your comments above - I think you may not like the taste of your own words!

360 is not a problem with GTA 4. Sure there are a few cases but I don’t think it has anything to do with the game it has to do with the disk drive as there are known problems with the disk drive of older 360’s. Hell the game froze once on me but it was after I left it sitting for a while and when I came back the game frooze. But I wouldn’t call it a problem. I play the game often and I have no issues. The PS3 is a more wide spread problem as it is happening to a lot of PS3’s and the Online does not work properly.

Gotta love this - The usual suspects trashing the PS3.
The problem appears to relate solely to a few launch versions of the PS3 (although mine works just fine).
Of course, the 360 launch machines were built to a much higher standard and… oh wait… hang on…

CAD - what do you expect for free? you get what you pay for.
there’s a reason why MILLIONS of gamers CHOOSE to pay for xbox live rather than take sony’s online gaming for free.
May 16th, 2008
kevin - I wouldn’t exactly call Live trouble free when in comparison, or historically, and Home looks to level the playing field, at least a bit.

Still no fix for the xbox 360 version?
Come on wheres my fix microsoft?
i gotta play this game before if gets the RROD.
May 16th, 2008
xbot- i have the 360 version. no fix needed. nothing’s happened to my game on the 360. then again, the 360 is the only TRUE gaming machine of the two..
May 16th, 2008
carl - i never said it was trouble free…but around 99% of the time it is; and that one time when it went down over the holidays, ms gave a free game for the inconvenience. has sony given anything to ps3 owners for their inconvenience? nope.
Home is still just empty hype and promises. As a sony fan you should know, only believe what is delivered by sony, not what is promised, as the vast majority of the time they’re completely different.
Hype Home once it’s here. Until then you’re only setting yourself up for more disappointment. seriously. it’s sony…it’s what they do.
May 16th, 2008
Kevin,
It’s funny you bring that up, since Home is the one thing that Sony really has disappointed me with. I’m one of the most patient people I know, but the constant delays are becoming more than an irritation. But I already don’t have enough time to play all the games on my List, so… I’m sure it will be here before I know it. And then you can come to Home party with Jonathan!

home has been cancelled. i guess that makes sony homeless.

Oh snap, xbox 360 losses yet another exclusive.

bioshock coming to PS3 with exclusive content.
May 16th, 2008
kevin - I wouldn’t know how many times PSN has gone down or what they get in return, I don’t own a PS3.
Sony fan? No. MS fan? You.
And saying Home looks to level the playing field a bit in the online situation is pretty mild for “hype”, don’t you think?
All the same, it has been delayed quite often.

Bioshock for ps3 OUTSTANDING…hopefully it is true…if not, Bah.
My GTA4 has been played constantly on my 60gig and has not once skipped, stalled, slowed or frozen. The only online problems I’ve had are when connected to US servers (some lag) Other than that, It has been perfect and I haven’t paid a cent… Oh PSN has not ever gone down (when I’ve needed to use it anyway)
So you can say what you want, I don’t give a *fig* because my experience has been superb. So you keep paying your subscription to enable you to play online (what a joke) and I will enjoy online free that does the job just fine.
Oh and Arvis, I agree, I wish I had more time to play the games I’ve already got, little known the dozen or so I badly would love to get. I don;t care WHO has the title of the most games….who cares, really, there are crap loads of exceptional games on both. Both systems aren’t “dying”, so get over it and just enjoy the fact that competing systems is good for the consumer

xbox 360 losses yet another exclusive.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 now coming to PS3.

Hahahahahaha anti-Sony defence forze have been destroyed.
May 17th, 2008
you are a LIAR xbot…
LIAR LIAR LIAR!! just like Sony… I am tired waiting for Home… even though I only have a 360…
Red Alert and Bioshock are games which will stay EXCLUSIVE to the 360… there are no PS3 version… there is no gametrailers.com…. there is no Anti-Sony defense… only realists and our facts…
You are a traitor Xbot… a traitor to everything our ancestors has died for…
I hate you :’(… youre a big fat poo poo head…

Does anybody know the average time it takes for these once exclusive 360 games to go to PS3? If it takes up to a year for some I think I would rather play it on the 360, but if it goes to PS3 anyway and it is the same or better even a year later PS3 owners have no incentive to buy a 360… still, playing it when it comes out is cool.
May 18th, 2008
Bioshock IS coming to PS3 though, just late to the party.
“there’s a reason why MILLIONS of gamers CHOOSE to pay for xbox live rather than take sony’s online gaming for free.” - Kevin
there’s PLENTY of reasons why MILLIONS of gamers CHOOSE to take sony’s online gaming for free rather than pay for xbox live.
And Sony didn’t lie, they never said that ‘2.35′ would have the GTA patch for the 60GB PS3s.
Microsoft will never be able to patch the RROD on all its SKUs.
May 18th, 2008
I have a 60gig and it hasn’t skipped a beat ??
May 19th, 2008
Not all 60GBs have problems, just enough to cause distress (though just one is enough to distress about if you are that one).
Nobody I know personally has had problems with it.
