Xbox 360 loses its blockbuster GOTY exclusive Bioshock to PS3 among other exclusives

Just breaking news folks, all PS3 fans can rejoice now as the game of the year Bioshock an Xbox 360 exclusive has just been confirmed by 1UP/EGM to be coming to the PS3 this holiday.
There has been rumors circulating for months that Bioshock would make its way onto the PS3 with the developers denying this would happen. Developers since last year have commented there were no plans on developing the PS3 version, however this news confirms they have not been all that truthful.
This is no doubt 2K’s plan to get Bioshock out the door on the PS3 in order to prepare it for the sequel Bioshock 2 which is slated for holiday 2009. As I have predicted in my past post, it only makes sense the Bioshock franchise would come to the PS3 considering they have been putting up job posts seeking PS3 developers exclusively.
This news is really going to to hurt Microsoft’s future lineup considering this was one franchise Microsoft had been heavily relying on especially in 2007. Microsoft has lost game of the year blockbuster hits to the PS3 in the past as well with Oblivion, another stellar game that won many accolades.
Other titles that were once hailed as Xbox 360 exclusives this generation, that Microsoft lost to the PS3 include: Lost Planet, Eternal Sonata, Vampire Rain and recently Overlord.
Another heavily rumored Xbox 360 exclusive that might make its way to the PS3 is Mass Effect. I am willing to wager, this franchise will make it’s way to the PS3 as well. It’s only inevitable with the acquisition of Bioware by EA considering they are the multiplatform giant that actually relies on releasing all of their software on as many platforms as possible.
EA had recently started taking over the publishing job of Mass Effect from Microsoft, as they have been gearing to release this game onto the PC this month.
According to 1UP you can catch the latest details on Bioshock coming to the PS3 on the July issue of EGM. They hint at possible graphics improvements among other things, might be a worthy issue to read.

since Im gonna be paying for the original copy… I better be getting some exclusive levels… a Big Daddy Plushie and some extra weapons (like a RROD 360 that explodes and melts the foe when you throw it at them) xD
I hope Mass Effect is released as well… Id like to get the original version of that game as well…

what a joke. first you clowns say bioshock is NOT an exclusive b/c it’s on pc. now it IS an exclusive that will hurt the 360 b/c it’s lost to the ps3? anything to make the 360 look bad, right fellas?
the reality is; with the ps3’s abysmal performance, i’d only get excited once it’s actually released on the ps3. Maybe if the ps3 had a better library, ps3 owners wouldn’t be so happy about getting sloppy seconds from the 360…

er… I said that it wasnt an exclusive (including Geow and Mass Effect and Halo and Halo2 ) because of the PC versions…
I doubt that PS3 sales of Bioshock will be through the roof… because most people wouldve already played it by now… in their Friend’s 360 or Download them on the PC via Utorrent
Yes the PS3 is sloppy… specially since you have to pay more for the 360… via Buy guide… every little victory help….

My friend who has a 360 wasn’t all that impressed w/ Bioshock…something about lack of variety in character models and such. I may rent it. Definitely not a buy though.

Seriously tho, I got BioShock on Steam a LOOOONG time ago, so I will not be purchasing it on my PS3.
However, it is a VERY good game, it has a great story, it looks great, it plays great. Deserves all the awards it won.
Whilst I would say this is a ‘mini-win’ for the PS3 (more quality games is just that) I don’t think its a huge blow to MS, afterall they had the initial console release.

I wish all of the nitwits out there would stop calling games like Bioshock exclusive. I never touched a 360 in my life and yet I have finished both Bioshock and Gears of War. I don’t know what strange definition of the word exclusive would allow for that to occur.

I think the main point here isn’t that the PS3 is getting Bioshock, but that the PS3 will be getting Bioshock 2. Let’s not beat around the bush Kevin. It’s not about getting sloppy seconds, but getting fine firsts along with the 360. I can feel your anger. The point I always try to make… seriously Arvis… play this game… its REALLY good… I wasnt into console shooter (cus I had problems with the analog stick) but this game was fun… FUN FUN FUN!!!!

This will leave the 360 in an awkward position in 2009 in my mind the key year for the consoles, with the ps3 nearly (or possibly has already) taken over the 360 in Europe (an impressive feat seeing how the ps3 was released in late March 2007 in europe), that only leaves America and with clearly the strongest line-up of titles this year. 2009 looks just as good for the ps3, God of War 3, Killzone 2, FF13, GT5 and now Bioshock and it’s sequel and other 3rd party games no longer exclusives on 360, apparently the Mass Effect sequel is already planned for ps3, this leaves 360 with little exclusives at all. It’s Microsoft’s fault they relied to much on 3rd party, not enougth 1st party. Now MS ability has a first party developer has come to light and it ain’t that good. The only MS game I have ever enjoyed is Age of Empires. Oh well enjoy Halo Wars (p.s RTS does not work on consoles, might as well just get it for P.C..

Absolutely love bioshock and am thrilled to see it come accross. Exclusive, well not really. I’ve already played and finished it a few times on PC.
I will definitley get it for PS3 and it will sit proudly in my “instant classics” collection to never be traded in.
Now just gotta wait for the halo’s to be ported accross (lol - just joking, but would be nice)

Congratulations PS3!!!! Just remember that it’s old news now for 360 owners and it took EA, those money hungry bastards, for it to happen. Now lets see if you get Bioshock 2 at the same time or will it be a timed exclusive.

If Bioshock or Gears of War is an exclusive to the 360 but still available on another platform then you can’t call, Uncharted, God of War 3, Metal Gear Solid, Resistance, Motorstorm, etc. etc. exclusives. You people (namely Kevin) should come up with another word that identifies games that available on ONE and ONLY ONE platform.
But you 360 has very little of those.. Most of its “EXCLUSIVES” are available for the PC. So, if “Exclusive” to the 360 also means its out for the PC, then you can’t use the same word for the Ps3 games mentioned above as they are only available on one platform.

How bout, console exclusive? no wait that won’t work because ps3 now has Bioshock 1 and 2 and very likely Mass Effect 1 and 2 (apparently the 2’s will be released on ps3 and 360 at the same time), probably Gears eventually, but u can keep that and Halo, I didn’t like either, looking forward to Bioshock thougth one of the few original games on a console full of bland FPS’s. Wow the list of exclusives on the 360 has fallen sharply. Only MS games left,to bad MS sucks at making games.

Um… I may be confused, but Uncharted, GoW3, MGS, Resistance and Motorstorm ARE all on just one and only one platform: the PS3. Is there some confusion on this? Did those games end up on the PS3 without me noticing?

NO they didn’t. What I tried to say was that those are the games that are on ONE console Only.
But 360 ppl are calling Gears nd Bioshock “Exclusives” even though they are Multi-Platform. So, that changes the meaning of the world “EXCLUSIVE”
So, my point is, if Multi-Platform games are exlusives, Then wat wud u call a game thats on ONE platform only (such as Gow3, Resistance etc. etc.)

On a more serious note, I do feel it would be a bit naive to think that this is just sloppy seconds.
Even if in the summer PS3 gets exactly the same version as 360 had when it came out at the end of 2007 (which is 2 years ago apparently, honest, I’m not lying, Kev told me), then it still means 360 lost one of its top exclusive* titles. That will have a big long term impact in the industry.
