PS3 Bioshock to have exclusive content that’ll make Xbox 360 owners want it
Recently several magazine outlets have reported news in their latest issues regarding Bioshock making its way onto the PS3. Now its been confirmed by 2K games themselves on this news.
2K games have confirmed the release of Bioshock onto the PS3, on October 2008 this holiday season. 2K games also confirms the development of this title have been in the works, which sort of goes against what Ken Levine’s past statement, that they have no plans of brining Bioshock to the PS3. I guess that goes to show you what you can take the studio’s word at.
I reported the breaking news last Thursday, and now I have more tasty news bits for you to gobble up. According to Kotaku Christopher Hartmann president of 2K games have recently stated:
“Over the coming months we look forward to revealing the new features and content that will make this a must-have game for its new audience, as well as for those who enjoyed it on the other platforms.”
EGM also reported that Sony and Bioshock are working on extending and augmenting the game as well.
According to what Hartmann is saying, this addition of content has to be huge enough to entice Xbox 360 owners to justify another purchase of Bioshock for the PS3. Which means it probably won’t be just a few additional measly Plasmids.
The exclusive content have been speculated as a huge addition of levels to the PS3 version of the game, as well as additional plasmids and weapons. There is also speculation Bioshock will have extensive PSN Home integration as well.
All of these are speculation at the moment, but it must be something big that requires 2K developers to work with Sony on the new content addition.
Addition of new levels along with Home integration does sound plausible considering past PS3 titles such as Uncharted Drake’s Fortune is speculated to be creating a complete 2D sidescroller much like Bionic Commando Rearmed to accompany Home integration. Ratchet & Clank has also been speculated to be creating episodic content (new levels) to add to Ratchet & Clank: Future Tools of Destruction as part of Home integration.
Stay tuned for more news in the coming months as more tid-bits should be leaking out onto the Internet.

2K Games Injects PLAYSTATION®3 System Owners with Genetically Enhanced Version of BioShock®
New York, NY – May 28, 2008 – 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today that BioShock®, the “genetically enhanced“ story-driven action game, is in development for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system at 2K Marin. The PLAYSTATION 3 system title will be released in October 2008 with new features and content that heighten the award-winning experience.
BioShock for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows® was released in 2007 and received numerous Game of the Year honors from prestigious organizations including Associated Press, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), Game Informer, Spike TV’s VGAs and Paste Magazine. BioShock’s extension to the PLAYSTATION 3 system will bring exciting new content to this amazing title and reach many new players, while giving the title the opportunity to once again be named Game of the Year.
“Since BioShock for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows won countless 2007 Game of the Year awards, we are excited to see the impact of this stellar title for the PLAYSTATION 3 system when it debuts this fall,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Over the coming months we look forward to revealing the new features and content that will make this a must-have game for its new audience, as well as for those who enjoyed it on the other platforms.”
BioShock is a narrative-driven action experience that allows players to do the impossible as they journey through an amazing, immersive and terrifying world. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically mutated citizens, the player will come to grips with the mysterious and fascinating world of Rapture, a distinct Art Deco underwater utopia gone mad. BioShock not only challenges the players’ capacity to adapt and survive, but brings to question their values and commitment to the inhabitants of Rapture. With smart and adaptive AI, no encounter ever plays out the same, while numerous customization options provide gamers with an experience that adapts to their playing style.
As one of the highest-rated titles of 2007, BioShock was unanimously praised by the editorial industry’s top critics:
“While delivering a level of intrigue you rarely see in games, its most captivating element is its gameplay – which I can easily say delivers the most rewarding and adrenaline-filled experience I have ever had with an FPS.” – Game Informer Magazine, 10 out of 10, Game of the Year
“There’s ample flexibility in the game’s linear storyline that makes a second run through Rapture’s unique brand of madness an exciting prospect.” – Associated Press, 4 stars out of 4
“Why settle for watching the hero in a film have a thrilling adventure when you can all but live a narrative this masterfully woven.” – Paste Magazine, Game of the Year
“BioShock stands as a monolithic example of the convergence of entertaining gameplay and an irresistibly sinister, engrossing storyline that encompasses a host of multifaceted characters. This is an essential gaming experience.” – IGN.com, 9.7 out of 10, Editor’s Choice Award
“More so than any other game in recent memory, BioShock is dripping with atmosphere and intrigue, and it’s one of those rare titles where story, dialogue and character development are just as important as the action sequences.” – USA Today, 9 stars out of 10
BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3 system will be available in October 2008 and is not yet rated by the ESRB. For more information on BioShock, visit www.bioshockgame.com

congrats ps3 owners. you’re in for a great time. great game. i enjoyed it for a loooong time before moving on. i’m sure you will too.
who “speculated” the huge levels of the ps3? name please. thanks.
May 28th, 2008
Thats why its speculation dude, its not fact. I wouldn’t be supprised though, if the studio is saying its going to have additional stuff to make Xbox owners want to buy it then its gotta be exclusive levels or something that significant.
I doubt Xbox owners would want to buy it again for PS3 for a few lousy plasmids.
May 28th, 2008
The reason i asked is because this site is on sony’s leg so hard they’ve lost feeling in it.
there are other articles of bioshock coming to the ps3 but with some levels REMOVED. but that wouldn’t make it to this site, as it doesn’t show the ps3 in a good light.
heck even the title is a joke. does the author really believe 360 gamers are going to buy an old game AGAIN, just for a few extra levels or features? not likely at all, but there it is in bold type.
the author stated the speculation by “some”.. so…who?
May 28th, 2008
This isn’t first site Ive read this, Kotaku also speculates if it could be in a form of more gameplay.
Why would anybody say its going to come gimped with the President of 2K games said its going to have extra content to make Xbox 360 owners want it.
I don’t know how much more blunt that can be.
You seem to think this site is biased against Xbox or something read the other game articles here lots of Xbox sales this, great year that, great library, Wii is so great etc…
May 28th, 2008
BRAD – i didn’t say “gimped”..only that it wouldn’t have the exact same levels as the 360 version with some being removed.
i’m still waiting on who speculated
i’ve read they may change a lot about the gameplay to make it work right on the ps3. i think they have to. as is, this game (as speculated by some) is too much for the ps3 to handle in the way of lighting, textures, mapping, etc.
see? i can say “some speculate” too…w/o one shred of fact.
May 28th, 2008
yes thats exactly what speculation is, it doesn’t mean fact, u must be retarted or something.
Go lookup:
- Augment
- Speculation
- gimped
in the dictionary.
Of course if levels were removed it would be a gimped version. duh!
If there were facts around, there wouldn’t be a need to speculate got that hoss?
May 28th, 2008
brad – nice spin job.. sony paying you? if SOME speculated..there MUST be a name to at least ONE of the SOME. so…who?
if the levels were removed but replaced with others, it wouldn’t be gimped.
just a name..one name…that’s NOT the author.
speculation has to have some sense of reality to it otherwise it’s just a fantasy…
May 28th, 2008
ahh yes, anyone who disagrees with kevin is on Sony’s payroll. Ok, now that we have the ground rules, everyone must believe what kevin believes.
May 28th, 2008
Poor Kevin, little fanboy just lost an exclusive. Now, FPS are for queers so I won’t be buying this game but you can be guaranteed that it will be better than the 360 version just as the original Xbox had improved versions of games like GTAIII last generation.
Will people buy the same game again? They did with GTAIV. There’s nothing new in that title and it’s the biggest game of all-time. And you and your fanboy bretheren can’t wait to buy GTAIV1.5 when they release DLC. Isn’t that just buying the same game again except all you get is a couple of new missions, shitdick?
May 28th, 2008
poor fanboys…so much flaming and not ONE name… i think i know why..
prfreak – when you don’t know the difference between dlc and a brand new game, you shouldn’t be gaming online. it’s funny you ps3 zealouts claimed forever that the 360 only has shooters..now you’re hyping them for your console. lmao…. hypocrites…
May 28th, 2008
Personally I did not see anything that said it was exclusive. The article said;
“Over the coming months we look forward to revealing the new features and content that will make this a must-have game for its new audience, as well as for those who enjoyed it on the other platforms.”
That says that everyone one will get the content. Not just PS3. For a minuite there I actually thought Sony finally did something for it’s customers and forked out some money but i guess not. They probably spent too much securing Blu-Ray and they are loosing money on every console sold.
May 28th, 2008
Christ does it really matter who speculated what?
Lets just wait for official tidbits before you get your panties in a big knot.
I can see it now, 2 months down the line when said speculation is not a feature, you’ll be posting how 2k and sony conspired to lie to the ps3 userbase and potential customers… Just like we all purchased the ps3 under the assumption it could fly to the moon whilst rendering life-like images.
May 28th, 2008
@CAD
Thats actually a good point, could be new features for the PS3 on the disc, and DLC for the 360, or DLC for both.
The point about losing money on each console tho, c’mon you know how this game usually* works :0)
*excluding nintendo these days it seems.
May 28th, 2008
Kevin, shred of fact??
one name for what?
You don’t need a shred of fact to speculate.
You need to go look up the definition of speculation: “To assume to be true without conclusive evidence.”
Why do you do need one name for someone else that speculates this? This author speculated this, im sure others have speculated as well.
I speculate this as well, as well as other posters on other forums.
Kotaku speculates an added levels in way of better ending, EGM speculates home integration.
Are you not a native English speaker? I hope you are or your one retarded SOB, go pick up a dictionary crybaby.

Poor little kevin, first I said FPS are for queers like you and I have no interest in this game. If you want to call me a fanboy you’ve got the wrong system, I love Nintendo, PS3 is my other console and the 1st Sony system I’ve picked up. Second I do indeed know the difference between DLC & a new game. PS3 will get a complete game with added portions never before available. With GTAIV you’ll get to drive here, shoot him, drive there, bring the car back. Just more of the same. Why do you want more of the same 6 months later? I’ve already completely tired of the game. All 10’s? I’d give it a 6.5.
May 28th, 2008
Kevin I think if PS3 can handle COD4, GTA4 and MGS4(a game 360 can’t handle) it will do fine with Bioshock, and more stuff is likely to be added than taken away. I think Bioshock is a great game, but for a technical achievment it’s nothing special.
May 29th, 2008
@ SW
What I’m saying is that Microsoft is always doing something for us like secure content on gta, unreal Tournament, splinter cell, our games come out first most of the time, In Call of Duty we also had the dlc a month before PS3. Even Rockband is exclusive for the spring in europe. Sony does’t do any thing like that.
May 29th, 2008
I can’t wait for bioshock for Ps3 and will get it “Post Haste”
Nice spin Kevin “I’ve already played and finished it, looong before you ps3 owner get it”….News flash Kevin….Bioshock wasn’t all that “exclusive” I have also played and finished it numerous times and I don’t have a 360…..”"”"SHOCK”"”" Oh that’s right it came out on PC as well.
If it came out with exactly the same content as the PC version, I would be more than happy. Some extra content is a cool bonus in my opinion.
Oh, someone else here has Nintendo and a ps3…but I thought the only “logical” choice for gamers was to get a wii and 360..
Pfft. Fanboy Kev.
May 29th, 2008
i’ve got a wii and ps3
well it seems to me that kevin is sucking some sour grapes, and anyone who denies the fact that Bioshock will come will SOME new additional content is just plain stupid. If a company is going to release a game thats already been on the market for a year or so, they are going to need to add something exclusive to that system, to try and get people to re-buy the product. Whether that means Home integration (which I would love to see personally) or some new levels or weapons, you will definately get something new to try and entice people to get it again. The PS3 version of Bioshock will be no different. It will have new and exclusive features, to make up for the year and a bit delay and more importantly, to sell. Now I’m not saying that a couple of months down the line, the content is released for 360 as DLC, but the 2K will definately be putting some kind of enticement into Bioshock PS3. Its a fact that I’m afraid Kevin will either have to accept or keep on acting in his fanboyish ways. Bets start now as to what way he will choose….
May 29th, 2008
Hey robb. Remember lost planet? That was out for around a year on 360 before it came on ps3. And it was still the inferior copy. Want some salt for your foot?
It has been proven many times that ps3 can’t handle 360 ports. This is going to be yet another case of it.
May 29th, 2008
Spideydog,
Don’t you realize that Playing it on the 360 and Games for windows are the same family. It might not have been 360 exclusive but it was Microsoft exclusive until now. it really does not matter if the PC gets a version. 360 and PC share Live. Sony is not a pert of that. Why people bother to bring this stupid fact up is just dumb. 360 and PC are like two Brothers so they share the same toys.
May 29th, 2008
whether the copy will be a successful port of Bioshock on 360, well thats another matter altogether (even though I don’t think they would screw it up, its a very important game). But yeh, thanks for giving me another example, Lost Planet, a example of a former 360 exclusive, came to PS3 with EXTRA content that was not found on the original Lost Planet (excluding DLC- which as I said before, will probably come to 360 anyway after the PS3 version is out). So, although you were trying to be clever and condescending to me, you failed and gave me another example that only proved my original point. Thanks for that
And no, my foots fine, keep that salt for yourself
May 29th, 2008
CAD – i agree, it is stupid when people bring that up. In those examples, such as Bioshock, fact was that PS3 never got it at the same time as xbox. Simple as
May 29th, 2008
spidey – post ONLY when you learn the difference between pc gaming and console gaming. two completely different markets genius.
May 29th, 2008
brad – an assumption has to have a base in reality in order to be an assumption. one can’t “assume” the sky is red, can they? of course not. face it; you got nothing.
May 29th, 2008
yeh but in all fairness kevin no one is assuming that any of the things will be included in the PS3 version of Bioshock. They are speculating. And as Brad said, quite rightly, there is no need for any fact to be involved to speculate. I could speculate that the next Bioshock will also be on PS3, but there is no fact to prove that yet. But it still doesn’t stop me speculating
May 29th, 2008
I speculate that Kevin is about 12.
May 29th, 2008
i speculate royzy’s IQ is 12.
May 29th, 2008
Quick comeback, well done!
May 29th, 2008
Sorry Robb, but I agree with the hairy sack. Extra content or not, the PS3 version of Lost Planet was a poor cousin to the 360 version. It just did not look as sharp, play as well etc.
Not saying that it’s a bad game on either console, it’s still playable, but yeah.
May 29th, 2008
Lost planet still sucked on ps3 robb! The extra content could not save it from being another bad example of ps3 not being able to handle 360 ports. Orange box anyone? Gta4 on ps3 was the inferior version too, it wasn’t even in hd!
May 30th, 2008
I speculate hat royzy’s IQ is 12 times higher han Kevin’s……
Does microsoft get money for each and every game released on PC….no, well then it’s not the “same” format as the 360.
Some of you were gloating and trying to make the point that “ha ha, it was exclusive to 360 and you guys couldn’t play it ….. we have played and finished it blah blah”
I was pointing out that it “wasn’t” exclusive to 360 and just because I don’t have a 360, doesn’t mean that I haven’t played, finished enjoyed Bioshock on another platform. WTF is your point of “PC is not console gaming so your point is invalid” So what if PC is not console gaming, it is still another platform that had a release of a game that was exclusive “in your eyes” to 360
PS3 OWNERS COULD PLAY BIOSHOCK ON ANOTHER PLATFORM OTHER THAN 360 = NOT EXCLUSIVE – regardless of console or PC gaming. Most people these days have a PC in their home so they are technically not “excluded” from being able to purchase and play bioshock – regardless if they have a 360 or PS3.
- flame away. I’m ready
May 30th, 2008
I normally use ‘console exclusives’ when I talk about games such as Halo, Mass Effect etc. It stops confusion, and leaves no room for people to mention that a game is on PC also.
May 30th, 2008
Fair enough. It is just when people go the extra step and say that “you can’t play a certain game, unless you own that platform” when in truth it can be played on another platform (console or not)
In the old days, the difference between a console game and a PC game was chalk and cheese, because the PC was far superior and the game could not be “replicated” on the console. But these days, they are almost identical, which is why I don’t differentiate too much between PC and console gaming. Consoles these days are almost scaled down PC’s really.
But I do hear your point winner.
May 30th, 2008
you know, i cant remember ever saying that Lost Planet was better on PS3 :S all I said was it came with extra content that the 360 didn’t have. It was still a shocking game (IMO), but as I said that was down to the people porting it, which is another matter altogether. All I am trying to say, regardless of which will be the better game, is that the developer will put in some extra content to try and please/persuade the buyer. that is all
oh and I’m not sure about GTAIV being worse on the PS3. Even without being in ‘true’ HD I’d take it to the xbox version. My mate has it and I’m happy I got it for PS3
May 30th, 2008
Matter of opinion really isn’t it? Sometimes with a sprinkle if bias… lol
May 30th, 2008
people.. the whole point of exclusives is so that people buy your console to play t hat game.. the same way MGS fans will buy the PS3 to play MGS 4 and Halo fans will buy 360 to play Halo3…
when you release that “Exclusive” game on the PC (neutral ground) its not an “exclusive” anymore…
The best games on the 360.. the BEST of the best…
Oblivion
Bioshock
Gears of War
These are game which pushed the limit… which brought something new to the gaming world… and which will probably be named as “classics” one day (alongside MGS and Mario and Deus Ex)
These are games which make people want to buy more games.. which keeps people like me excited.. and if I want to play this game… I dont have to buy a 360… I dont even have to buy an expensive computer… a decent or budget video card and 512- 1 gb RAM will do…
Thats the problem….
May 30th, 2008
Spideydog
The Title for PC games coming from Microsoft is “Games for WIndows” with the windows sign beside it. Guess who owns Windows? Therefore yes Microsoft gets paid just like they get paid for games on the 360. The exclusivity goes when it crosses over to another company. Also the games use “Live” don’t they? Isn’t that where they get their downloadable content. PC and 360 are synonymous.
May 30th, 2008
I also forgot to mention that you can buy a 360 controller for use with Games for Windows to use on your PC. How synonymous is that Spidydog?
May 30th, 2008
really? well thats it then. i’m getting a controller for the PC instead of spending money on the 360. Whats the point in buying one if you can just play all the best games off the 360 on the PC?
i’m not exactly sure, but I think that is what spideydog is getting at. Why bother buying a 360 when you can virtually the same experience on your PC?
May 30th, 2008

May 30th, 2008
damn it double post, sorry people
May 30th, 2008
Well done robb, someone can read.
CAD I said, does microsoft get paid by each and every developer game company for every game brought out on PC format…no they don’t. They only get paid or receive money from “microsoft owned” companies that release games on PC.
Microsoft does not “own” all PC gaming. PC gaming is not “quarsay” 360.
Think of it this way if you will.
Just about everyone has a capable PC these days right. Microsoft secure an “exclusive” game for 360, only to have it show up for sale in the PC variety.
Me, thinks, “I don’t care that 360 got this “exclusive” game because I can play it on my PC” (and at a better standard than 360 as well)
Same goes for any Ps3 “exclusives” UT3 anyone… not on 360 (yet) but claimed exclusive. But in truth, it is not exclusive. So if PC gaming is the same as 360, why didn’t 360 get UT3 ?? (straight away)
In my opinion, exclusiveness is if the game ONLY comes out on one platform.
Oh and the controller point you brought up CAD…I can buy PS controllers and use them in a PC as well, so I suppose that makes my PC a PSC3 hmm?
May 30th, 2008
It is very obvious that not all PC games are on the 360. Not every game for PC is labled “Games for Windows”. I’m only talking about “Games for Windows” games which is subject to the not being exclusive non-sence that poeple like to blurt out like yourself when mentioning Bioshock. Games for Windows games are the only games you will find on both PC & 360. Even Crysis is a Games for Windows game and URT3. I see your point with URT3 but we all know it did not come to 360 at launch because of the user created content issue. But even though it’s not on 360 yet, URT3 is still on Microsoft books just because of Games for Windows. Therefore if a game come out on 360 and GFW they are still Microsoft and exclusive to Microsoft Products. In the case or URT3 that is not exclusive because it is made for two different companies, Sony and Microsoft. Oh and the PS3 Controller is not sold in stores as a controller for PC Games like the 360 controller is. You have to do a Mod/download to get it working it was not built as a direct plug in and play.
May 30th, 2008
We will have to agree to disagree matey.
May 31st, 2008
I don’t agree to that
