Xbox 360 GTA 4 DLC delayed until 2009 – Take-Two announces profits

Xbox 360 GTA 4 DLC delayed until 2009 - Take-Two announces profitsIt’s now been over a month since GTA IV made it’s long awaited début and the game has probably now lost its appeal to a certain degree. However, there is more to come, with the Xbox 360 DLC on its way… eventually.

Many PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will have now finished Grand Theft Auto IV, or at least played a fair chunk of the most interesting aspects of the game. So those who can’t get enough of living life through the eyes of Niko Bellic will be eagerly awaiting the arrival of the the much hyped (by Microsoft at least) downloadable content. Unfortunately, that wait has just been extended.

Playstation 3 owners are missing out on the DLC altogether after Microsoft reputedly paid a small fortune to Rockstar for the extra material to be exclusive to the Xbox, although rumours continue to do the rounds about some form of downloadable content appearing on the PS3 in the future.

Take-Two has just announced its financial report for Q2, 2008, and part of the announcement saw the DLC being delayed from Q4 2008 to Q1 2009. The downloadable content was originally slated for release in the autumn, but Q1 covers a period between November 2008, and January 2009. I suspect I’ll be later rather than sooner as January is usually a low month for game sales.

According to VideoGamer, the Take-Two statement explained the reasons for the delay:

“Fiscal 2008 guidance reflects the release of the first instalment of episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV for Xbox 360 in the first quarter of fiscal 2009 instead of the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008 in order to provide a better balance in Take-Two’s release schedule,”

This portfolio balancing act basically means that Take-Two want to spread their profit out more evenly, and knowing the GTA 4 DLC is likely to make a ton of money, have decided to push it back in the release schedule at the expense of gamers.

According to GI.biz, the financial report also revealed that 78% of the company’s total publishing revenue for the last quarter came from sales of GTA IV and people snapping up prior GTA titles in preparation for the new game. Take-Two’s net profit for the quarter was US$98.2 million which compares to a net loss for the same period last year of US$51.3 million.

No pricing details for the DLC were announced but it was revealed that the same team who worked on the full game are developing the content which will be available through Xbox Live.

    thats a shame…

“a small fortune”?? I thought it was equal to the GNP of a Sub Saharan Country…

Now I could pull a Kevin and scream about 360 people not keeping their promises xD but Im bigger than that…
Although.. it makes sense… there are lots of new games coming up the next few months… so.. its not like Im saying that the GTA DLC would be a flop.. Im saying sice there are a buncha new games coming out.. it would be best for Take Two and all the GTA fans to wait… this way when it comes out.. it gets the attention it deserves…

Still waiting on MGS 4 and Resistance 2 and Killzone 2.. and the mother of them all… GOW !!!

Shame on you DAVE PARRACK for the comment “the game has probably now lost its appeal to a certain degree”
that is blasphemy and you should be ashamed of yourself… Im never gonna get tired of it:P

  2. Dave Parrack:

Ah, but many have. I’m hearing many complaining that they’ve now seen it all, done it all, and are quite bored.

  3. Bourne:

ahh but DAVE PARRACK has a point, i’m pretty bored with gta now, i mean i’ve done so much, and it cant get any better. i’m not even done yet so maybe it will improve? all i know is june 12th will be the mother of all gaming days and ive got a driving lesson on it :(

  4. darkwhitehair:

    ohh come on guys…
    a muder simulator…
“slice a hooker with helicopter blades”
“pay for ’services’ and then kill her to get your money back”
“get points by killin coppers… the five-oh.. the po po… the fat men in governemnt paychecks”

    HOW CAN YOU GEt BORED!!!!
I hate you guys… screw you guys Im goin home :(

    dwh.

The way you are speaking, it seems that you only fantasize about games.
Take me for example, I’ve bought GTA from Gamestop on the first day for my Ps3. For the last month I’ve played nothing else. The things you mention are fun to do but only for soo long.

After over a month long of playing, I totally agree with DAVE PARRACK that it did get tiring. Now my attention is towards MGS4.

Also, Crytek is teasing us with Crysis Warhead.
I’m getting my PC revved up for that.

Let me make the first part clear.
I think that you haven’t played the game and you are only fantasizing because if you actually played it , you’re bound to be tired of doing those things too.

  7. SW:

    Ah well delays happen.

I also agree with Dave P. I purchased it on launch day for PS3. Gave it two weeks or so, not even finished it yet and I am totally bored with it.

As usual the story is good and the acting is good. But the rest of it seems like I’ve been there and done it all before with VC and SA. In fact after SA and its TOTAL wackyness in terms of extra stuff to do, GTA4 seems quite empty for me (yes, i agree GTA SA was WAY over the top, but you get my point). Oh and I’m not a big fan of the radio.

  8. DavidB:

concur. GTA4 lost its appeal for me FAR quicker than any previous version did.

  9. darkwhitehair:

raaaaaaaaaaaaight hammy… sure Ill believe you…
The thing is.. I dont go out of my way to finish a game quickly… I savor it (the good ones)… and play it nice and slowly so I can get the most bang for my buck for the most days…
Sure if youre bored then youre bored… youre probably gonna get bored of the extra 10 hour DLC aftrer finishing it… Im not… ohh well…
Im gonna try to play DOTA again…

  10. kevin:

dwh – so now gta is a 360 game? even tho r* sat on info that they even had a 360 version in the works for a looong time while touting the ps3’s release? i swear you couldn’t be more silly if you tried.

they’re hosed either way. if they release it too soon, you fanboys scream, “they released an unfinished game!!!” if they release it too late you scream, “they delayed it!!!”

    nice job…

  11. Spideydog:

There is more than enough to keep me happy with GTA4 and honestly, I don’t need anymore content. It has a hell of a lot more gameplay than the average game these days.

It has the right balance of gameplay and anymore would bore the game IMO.

  12. hamburger:

    Dwh

So, is doing the same thing over and over again your idea of savouring? Either you are a nut or you are a liar.
I say you are a liar. You imagine yourself doing those things in Gta and have never actually done any of those things. Because if you did, u’d be bored after 1 MONTH. (possibly because you read them in a forum).

“pay for ’services’ and then kill her to get your money back”—We’ve been doing that since Gta III. Maybe u didnt play that either. If u did, the same thing wouldn’t excite you in IV. Come on, if you’re not a nut then u are a liar. This is your reason why we should continue to play Gta IV??

And, who savours the story mode slowly? When there’s such a great multiplayer mode?

How come when I shoot Michelle with a shotgun she doesn’t die? She annoys me.

  14. darkwhitehair:

    Bravo hammy… bravo…
Calling someone a liar who youve never met.. what next?? threatening me with physical pain??

Meh I just like drivin round the city and crashing at high speed… I like the car damage… sigh.. If only I could do it in real life… I dont care bout the DLC… I cant download it anyway…
waiting for MGS4… but dont know whether I should let go of GTA 4 or not :’(

  15. hamburger:

    Dwh

I don’t need to meet you to know that you are a liar. I seem to remember Kevin making the same accusation some time ago. So, its not just me, other people also noticed your terrible lies.

Your comments are very confusing. You try to pretend to be a know it all and u end up saying idiotic stuff, that proves your knowledge about gaming is vague.

I still say, if you really played Gta IV, you would get tierd of doing the same stuff you did since Gta III, (the killing hooker and getting back the money thing). You must’ve read all the Gta reviews out there and read some online forums where people did some cool stuff nd ur saying u did them, or at max, played it in a friend’s house. But I can guarantee that you don’t own the game. If you did, you wouldn’t disagree with Dave P and say such lame things.

    You are a terrible liar!!
