EA releases Spore creature editor for $10
EA (Electronic Arts) has released the Spore creature editor to give us all a little taste of the game before its official release in September. However, the creature editor is not a free download, and will run you $10 for the full version.
It’s understandable that EA wants to make some money before releasing the full game, and you will be able to use the creatures you make now later in the full game. Is the creature editor worth just $10? Maybe. That’s the best answer I can give you.
I don’t think it’s worth paying $10 for since the game itself will have the creature editor built-in, so it’s like buying this and then paying $39 to $49 for the game. If people go for the creature editor, EA just made itself $10 plus the price of the game.
If you buy the creature editor then you have almost no choice but to buy the game, otherwise it’s just a waste of $10. Unless you discover that you don’t like the creature editor and decide the full game is not worth it.
It’s just a bit shady of EA (though expected) to charge $10 for the creature editor. It should have been a free download and I don’t count the “trial” as being such.
If EA were to allow those who bought the creature editor $10 off the full game then that would be acceptable. I do not see that happening.
Spore is a simulation game much like the Sims only this time you get to start your creation from scratch and allow it to evolve. Once you have the creature, you can place it in the world starting from the stone-age right up to the space age. The game comes from the mind of Will Wright who is the same person responsible for The Sims.
The creature editor can be purchased from EA for $10 as a direct download. Just make sure that your creatures don’t come out looking anything like those found in this Gaming Today post.
