Resident Evil 5 not an Xbox 360 exclusive - Simultaneous PS3 release

Resident Evil 5 is one of the most eagerly anticipated games for the current-gen consoles. Announced way back in 2005, it is expected to make an appearance in the first quarter of 2009. But there have been rumours over the past few days of the game becoming a timed Xbox 360 exclusive, something which would completely ruin the gloating of the PS3 fans over the current exclusive line-ups for each console.
This game has been a long time coming, with a development period of over three years, and a particularly long wait for a high profile game series such as Resident Evil to make its début on the new breed of consoles.
The game has always been locked in as a multi-platform release, with both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 getting versions. The Nintendo Wii is unfortunately missing out due to a combination of the console being graphically underpowered and Nintendo having an aversion to anything even approaching adult in nature.
But a rumour emerged a few days ago indicating that the game could be set to become a timed Xbox 360 exclusive, with the PS3 being shut out at this late stage, or at least having its release put back a while.
It started with an article on Videogaming247, which revealed that Capcom were promising Resident Evil 5 as their big hitter at E3. Not a big surprise, but the way it was reported indicated something big about the game was due to be revealed at the conference.
Then a small wordpress blog called PlayStationLifeStyle.net decided to add some detail and speculation to that by claiming Microsoft was looking to pay Capcom a healthy sum of money to ensure Resident Evil 5 became a timed exclusive on its system. Okay, so they explained it was merely a rumour, and that it was unknown whether Capcom had accepted the offer but that didn’t stop the “news” from spreading, and increasing in volatility as it went.
Thankfully the rumour has now been quashed, with Capcom’s Christian Svensson completely squashing the speculation in the official Capcom forums. He said:
“The assertion is false. RE5 is a multi-platform release that fits with our oft-stated cross-platform strategy… For the avoidance of doubt… simultaneous release.”
So there you have it. Xbox 360 fans can stop harping on about the so-called exclusive, while PS3 fans can once again be safe in the knowledge that the game will be out on their console, and at the same time as on the Microsoft machine. Interestingly though, Svensson didn’t confirm or deny whether the offer was indeed made or not, just saying, “sorry guys, but an answer to this is not relevant” when questioned on it.

I wish they would get more aggressive… like buy 50% of Bungie and Microsoft…. then Master Chief could make a cameo in God Of War 3… or in MGS 5…

enyways games are better when a game is made on ps3 and ported to 360,like COD4 was made on ps3 and ported to the 360 and other games too.
developers are starting to see that so in 2009 every games will be ported to 360,FACT.

I’m so damm sick of Microsoft throwing there cash around to make up for there lack of talent.
First they pay to keep Bioshock as a timed exclusive for nearly a year, well long after it stopped selling on the 360, then they pay to have Rock Band as timed in Europe (part of there ridicluous plan to appeal to casual gamer’s, offering Wii owners to “upgrade” to the 360, bet Wii owners “loved” that idea, “Yay let’s ditch Galaxy and Brawl and go play Viva Pinata!)
It wouldn’t surprise me if Microsoft did try to pay to have Resi 5 as timed exclusive, No matter MS are ruining themselves paying for timed exclusives all the time, maybe they should use that money to get there rubbish 1st party development sorted instead of paying for the bragging rights of “we get these few titles a couple months ahead of u”

hahahahaha M$ has to try and they will. It is their only chance to survive. Their first party is empty and too rely on third parties.
Unfortunately for M$, Capcom’s PSP monster hunter is doing extremely well in Japan and PS3 outsold Wii in all markets: Japan, US and Others last week. The chance of Capcom give M$ this exclusive is almost zero now.

Kev - then they should have stuck with what they are good at making Age of Empires on the PC. That’s anthor thing that annoys me about Microsoft, sticking games on the 360 that had always been popular on the PC and making the 360 titles timed exclusives to try to force PC gamers to buy a 360. Unfortunatly for MS PC gamers seem to prefer not having a 360 (must be a keyboard/mouse over controller thing)

MS Sucks Just Like the PS3. Changing from Wii to Xbox 360 is like Running head long into a brick wall and stabbing your self the gut then wondering why it hurts so much. Wii is any gamers dream. PS3 is the Bustard Brother of the Wii, Descendant of stolen technology form Nintendo*. But Nintendo is not a wiener like MS so the they just built some thing better.**

me - i like the idea of bringing some pc games to the console side. 1. i don’t have to buy expensive upgrades for my pc 2. i can enjoy the games with other friends on one console 3. we get the better storylines of pc games. but it’s funny (read: sad) you ignore the franchises ms brought to console gaming, halo, pgr, forza, splinter cell, viva pinatat, psychonauts, etc, etc… all great games.

Kev- I’m not talkin bout making 360 and PC games (that’s fine), I’m talkin bout making popular PC titles timed exclusives for the 360 (like Fable 2), it’s just a big slap in the face to loyal PC gamers, but MS just tries to force tham to get a 360 as well, when they don’t want one.
I’m not really intrested in any one of those franchises
Halo - Wouldn’t buy the game, but don’t mind playing multi and online at my mates.
PGR + Forza - Not intrested in games like these and GT, prefer racers like Burnout, Motorstorm, Wipeout, Mario Kart
Viva Pinata - Not really my kind of game, never played it, but heard lots of mixed opinions bout it
Splinter Cell - Hahahahahahahahahahahah, good one, wouldn’t even accept a free copy
Psychonauts - Heard good things bout it, never played it and not really intrested in playing it.
Yeah your list pretty much confirms my theory that MS has rubbish 1st party development.

Psychonauts was a great game.
I wish I had played it on console tho.
Whilst I did have my PS2 pad plugged into my PC, I dunno, theres something about platformers where I just want to play it on a console.
Just like how with MMO’s, RTS’s, FPS’s I want to be right up to my monitor, nose pressed against it & sitting up right.
I can agree with the rest of the list (what I have played).

I said “TIMED EXCLUSIVE”, MS wants some eager PC gamers who can’t wait till the games are out on the PC to get a 360 and the game for it.
Just because a game sells well doesn’t mean it’s a good game and vice-versa, are u going to tell me ICO and Okami are lousy just because they never sold well?

SW- I know what u mean bout PC gaming FPS’s and RTS’s are always better on PC, I havn’t actually played a game on my PC since I got my PS3, I do miss the RTS’s. But I just downloaded a demo for Civ Rev which is surprisingly good for an RTS on a console and will definatly buy it once i’ve unlocked every weapon and found every IPOD song on MGS4 (anyone know where MGS main theme and Snake Eater are?), unfortuantly Civ Rev doesn’t seem to be selling too well in the UK(already out for some reason) seems to been overlooked since it was out the day after MGS4.
