PS3 trophies will launch at E3 with leveling up and gamercard
I’m sure everyone’s heard about the supposed leaked information about trophies and in-game XMB(XcrossMediaBar) inclusion in the firmware update 2.40. Apparently more news has been leaked recently regarding the details of the infamous firmware 2.40!
Computer Video Games (CVG) is reporting their inside source has contacted them again to clue them in on the hotly anticipated firmware update. Not that long ago we reported that there was an announcement on Sony’s Blog that firmware 2.4 would be arriving very soon.
According to CVG their sources have revealed that the firmware would arrive in about three weeks time, which coincidently is when E3 begins! If you do the math then that could only mean that Sony will have a super big announcement in store at E3 during their press conference.
CVG also details out firmware 2.40 by explaining the trophy system. (Pictures from PS3fanboy)

Apparently there will be different levels for trophies: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Platinum trophies will only be attainable for wholly acquiring all the different levels of trophies within a game.
It is yet unknown what weight each trophy has, but one can assume platinum will be worth the most (yes, like in real life) towards the player’s stats or gamercard.
Yes, you heard me correct, it is rumored there will be a gamercard type stat page displaying the gamers information as well.
Those trophies in turn equate to how much you level up. I’m assuming each trophy acquisition will have different weight in increasing your level up bar, with platinum giving the most boost in leveling up.
The gamercard seems to have two sides to it if you press L1 shoulder it takes you to your full stats, game titles you have played, bio information, view trophies and compare trophies. Tapping R1 seems to take you to the level up progress card which shows what level you are currently at and how far you have to go before leveling up.
A very interesting MMORPG, or Call of Duty 4 style of leveling up to keep players addicted in playing all the games. If this is all true, one would assume that there has to be some type of reward system.
You don’t level up without expecting something in return do you? Could it potentially be free downloadable games, or maybe free PSN card?
This is all speculation and rumor at the moment but stay tuned as you can bet we will report any new development on this exciting prospect. It’s about time PS3 get’s all the feature’s Xbox Live(XBL) had since day one.
With no spring dashboard update for XBL I am hoping for a big announcement this E3 from Microsoft as well. Maybe we will get Mii-like Avatars? How cool would that be?
These are exciting times folks, soak it all in.

Cool.
We still need more codec support tho.
I hope this E3 leaves me feeling excited, not really come from an E3 blown away since they announced The Legend of Zelda : TTP right at the end of the Nintendo conf.

Anyone else think that we might be able to spend Trophy Points to “purchase” extra accessories in Home?

June 26th, 2008
Arvis – that could be. however, sony has been very vocal about their desire to make money thru e-commerce on PSN. i’m sure they’ll give you guys something, but sony isn’t known for their generosity.
June 26th, 2008
Arvis – We need to get Home before we can really think about accessorizing. I got to be honest trophies don’t excite me, just give me XMB Pleeeeaaasssse!
June 26th, 2008
Yeah and neither is microsoft Kevin. Wake up.
June 27th, 2008
spidey – really? they GAVE me a free headset with the 360. They GAVE me a free game with my xbox live subscription (Crimson Skies) and they GAVE gamers a FREE game for the 24 hour outage of xbox live in December. Sounds more generous than what sony’s done. so, what has sony given you guys….?

spidey – didn’t bill gates of ms GIVE a BILLION dollars to Africa for immunizations? sounds pretty generous to me….
June 27th, 2008
He treats Africa good to even out his sins. And that is like pocket money to him.
I know what Sony game me – free Online Gaming. Thanks Sony – you’re the best!
A Casino Royale Blu-Ray free with my console? Thanks Sony!
Sony doesn’t have major fuck ups which need apologising for, being late for Home is hardly something to cry over, since it is free (thanks Sony!).

royzy – let’s count sony’s screw ups…
1. “the ps3 is launching in spring 2006″ according to ken kuturagi who only said this in hopes some gamers would not buy the 360 and wait for a few months to buy the ps3. it NEVER was going to happen, but they lied anyway.
2. “we and AOL have partnered to provide a unequal online service for the ps2, so buy your adapters now”… the partnership was NEVER settled on, no agreements, or even a rollout target date..again, sony lied….
3. “we have free online gaming”… just no voice communicator so enjoy your silent game matches. complete screw up.
4. “we have true hd gaming”…just no hidef cables included with the ps3.. another screw up.
those are just off the top of my head….. sony has screwed up PLENTY… one only need to look at the last place to see this.
