Electronic Arts just released a couple of brand-spankin’ new trailers for its highly anticipated first-person shooter, Battlefield: Bad Company. Why does this matter? Oh, maybe ’cause the ads blatantly copy from competing games. They’re also pretty funny.

Reviewers have said Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is one of the best video game ever made and that includes this gen systems such as PS3 and Xbox 360 all the way back to NES. High praises are given by the big three industry review giants: Gamespot, IGN and Gamepro. These reviewers have been in the industry for over 22 years. Practically most of us grew up reading their reviews.

As news filters in of Metal Gear Solid 4 prompting a huge rise in sales of the PS3 in Japan, could the Sony console do the unthinkable and actually beat the lifetime sales of its predecessor the Playstation 2?

Casual gaming is on the rise. That’s a fact. You can see this not only by the success of the Nintendo Wii, which is built on casual gaming, but also the success of games such as Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Singstar. The question now is how much of a lurch towards casual will Sony and Microsoft take the PS3 and Xbox? And how much that will influence the games industry for the future?

While we all sit here heatedly debating the merits of this generation’s consoles, the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3, the companies behind the machines we are currently playing are probably planning their next move in the video games hardware department. And it seems that Microsoft is keen to continue the setting the trend with the Xbox 360 and be first out of the gate next time, too.

Hello folks, its another round of “a week in PS3.” There has been so much news lately it’s just impossible to get everything in here, so I’ll go over the ones that stand out the most. There is news of a new PS3 firmware update, Square Enix gunning to finish Final Fantasy XIII and free downloadable content for Metal Gear 4.

EA (Electronic Arts) has released the Spore creature editor to give us all a little taste of the game before its official release in September. However, the creature editor is not a free download, and will run you $10 for the full version.

I had high hopes for this generation of games consoles, with innovation and evolution being my vision for it. However, with the PS3 copying the Xbox 360, the Xbox 360 rumoured to be copying the Wii and both copying the idea of a Wii style motion sensing controller, is originality actually dead and buried?

Casual gaming doesn’t require any substantial storage, right? Wrong. The gamers have spoken, and Nintendo’s response is rather lack-luster. Nintendo knows the Wii is in need of storage, but there aren’t any external storage deices in the works…unless Nintendo has some brilliant cloud storage scheme up it’s sleeve, what are Wii left with?

Developers definitely underestimated, and failed to support, the PS3 in its early days, mainly thanks to the Xbox being their main target for attention. But is that trend now changing, and is 2009 set to be the year of the Playstation 3?
