PSP outsells top dog DS and Wii, with Devil May Cry 4 incoming

There has been a lot of criticism that the PSP has been loosing steam but things are starting to look up for the system. Right now the PSP has managed top sales and new great games coming out for the system, it’s future looks bright.
I currently own the fat PSP and love it. I have an 8GB memory stick I put music and TV shows for use on the go. It’s truly a multimedia device allowing me to play blockbuster games like Metal Gear Portable OPs and God of War Chains of Olympus as well.
Currently I am playing through Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, a great follow up or prelude to the famed Final Fantasy VII. However lately, it can be argued the system has been getting very stale.
It looks like the dry spell is over now with Worth Playing reporting that Devil May Cry 4(DMC4) has been confirmed to be coming to the PSP very soon. Devil May Cry 4 is a blockbuster game that sold millions on the Xbox 360 and PS3 so you can bet this game will sell well on the PSP as well.
On the heel of this DMC4 news, there is also news that the PSP has out sold the DS and the Wii in Japan yet again. According to After Dawn, the PSP sold around 58,861 outselling the Wii and DS which sold 48,884 and 48,480 units respectively.
The PSP is killing over in Japan, I guess the main driver is Monster Hunter an extremely popular game over in Japan. With good news on the horizon for the PSP maybe the US sales will pick up as well.
The PSP sales have been decent in the US but nothing like over in Japan (relatively speaking). You can bet once DMC4 comes out for the PSP I will be picking a copy up myself.

Why don’t they ever make headlines like “PSP gaining on DS in Japan” or “PSP cuts DS lead in Japan”? I mean, it’s actually accurate in that case as opposed to the PS3 cuts Wii lead headlines we get so often.

You are dumb, the Wii and DS are still wrecking PSP in sales. The DS alone almost TRIPLE sales of PSP. There is no contest, and the better retailer will win. Nintendo is the best, was the best and always will be the leading console. Stop trying to hide who the real video game industry leader is.

PSP is doing great stop all this BULLSHIT. And the DS is crap with terrible graphics awful games weird awkward controller scheme. Wii sucks is a joke too.

Whether or not a console does good in Japan doesn’t make much difference. This is pretty much the same country where the Sega Saturn did (little) good. Despite the fact Sega Saturn sucked every where else.
There will be a more likely Xbox 420 that sucks in Japan & does good enough everywhere else. So Japan can’t predict squat.
The only thing that really matters though in the console war is who is first in global sales & that’s the Wii.
Wii might have a shot to reach 40M before PSP does. And DS the last time I checked has sold over 74M.

Lol Japan is where gaming was born so is a very important place to sell consoles. DS is a little toy with a horrible design and the worst game in history. Nintendo likes and adores selling crap.

Ivan’s gaming info seems very skewed. The 1st gaming console was made by Ralph Bear, a German who came to the US.
Although gaming was reborn in Japan thanks to, do I dare say, Nintendo. This was after the fact that companies like Atari really F’ed up.

Ivan, you seem a bit lost. Video games were SAVED in Japan, but not born there. You must be thinking of the NES, which did not invent gaming at all. Video games were being sold, commerically, by American companies long before they were made in Japan.
Now, if you want to look after the dark ages, video games were saved by Nintendo.
That being said, at the rate things are going, the DS will be the most sold console in history, putting the PS2 in second and showing the world that, for good or bad, handheld consoles are an important part of the future.
Meanwhile the Wii will end up hitting almost all major milestones before the PSP, in spite of the strength of the handheld market at the moment.
PSP has some good games, from what I’ve played, without owning one. Most of them are the overlooked, ones though.
For me, I’ll buy a games consoles that are games consoles. I, and many other people *points to the sales* are not interested in dealing with something with a dozen different uses. I have enough problems figuring out my computer without trying to figure out how to turn on a PS3 (real story) or get a movie on some hand held gadget.

You all might know way more than me i started playing games in 1998 at 11 Years old. I meant Japan is the soul of gaming just visit Tokyo,Japan is amazing i been there. PS2 is the greatest selling gaming console of all times. PSP kicks DS ass anytime PSP has way better graphics better games more reliable has video music photo internet and PSP connectivity and it looks amazing. Handheld gaming is very important i also believe that, buy a PSP is cool. DS games are bad awful dated graphics awkward controller bad handheld design no video or music on web browser. It took me about ten minutes to learn how to turn on the PS3 LoL it took me about half hour to learn to activate my Xbox 360 wireless controller lol.

Ivan, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
I had 3 PSP’s and sold them to get DS’s.
Everyone in my family has DS’s ages 2, 4, 7, 29, 34 and we all have games we like to play. Tell me what games a 2, 4 or even 7 year old girls will play on the PSP.
The same goes with the 360 and PS3.
Nintendo makes a variety of games for everyone not just teen geeks. That’s why Nintendo gets my money.
