Internal memos leak Xbox 360 price drop and PS3 new model

It seems like leaking information by the retail chains is quickly becoming the fad lately. Is “deep throat” and shady employee dealings out of fashion like MC Hammer’s pants?
Just this week, we heard about two big potential announcements that maybe revealed at E3 next week. Joystiq has uncovered several internal memos which were sent to it anonymously, both pertaining to the PS3 and the Xbox 360. One internal memo is from Wal-Mart indicating that the PS3 40GB system will be replaced in August!
It’s not a coincidence this is all happening early August two weeks after E3. You can bet Sony will announce some new PS3 bundle or version to hit the store shelves. Maybe a lower priced model? We can always hope right?
The next internal memo is from none other than Gamestop (it can’t get better than this). According to a planogram memo and posters the Xbox 360 Pro will be receiving a $50 price drop, decreasing it to $299.99. You can’t be too surprised about this one; I already had plenty to say about this price drop not that long ago here.
So which one is better news? If you ask me I will probably say a price drop is definitely welcome on the Xbox 360 — it’s always good to get that price down to near-Wii level. However, who knows what kind of replacement the new PS3 will have?
It could be a bundle with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Dual Shock 3, which may be a better deal to some non-PS3 owners. I’m sure no one can argue that.
E3 is shaping up to become quite an exciting event, with the rumor mill churning away through the night cranking out rumors left and right. There have been rumors of a new 3D interface from Microsoft, and rumors of God of War 3 from Sony have been floating around.

this is not the kind of news sony needs to hear right now. with the ps3 is getting killed in the largest markets by the 360 sales, the price drop on the 360 is the last thing sony needs.
oh well…their fault.. noone asked for a bluray player…

Selling 10-20k a month more in NA territories only is hardly a killing (did we get june figures yet? maybe I missed those).
What the Wii is doing everywhere is a killing.
But, I shall welcome GoW3 if Sony sees fit to give us some snippets
- Price drop of course doesn’t concern me unless Sony was willing to issue me a cheque 
I don’t think much of what Nintendo will show will interest me
Unless they leverage some of thier traditional IP instead of ‘Wii ‘. Drop another Zelda (without a ‘two worlds’ gimmick, well unless they wanted to remake ALttP 
) damn you!!! *shakes fist*
As for MS, if Aaron is there, maybe ill bite and watch. Nothing like seeing a raging animal in full anti Sony/Nintendo mode. Maybe one day, if he calls the Wii ‘a gimmicky sales-will-flop-in-a-week-you-watch!!’ enough times, it will become the truth.

PS3 is just never going to die.
Next gen will not be the PS4, it will be PS3 Next Gen. PS5? Nope, PS3 Now With New Hardware.
360 gets a price cut, PS3 gets more confusing…again. Pick something and stay with it. Most of the world population is tech ignorant and don’t want yet another version of the PS3, or even the 3 versions of the 360, for that matter.
Scrambling to save something is costing the Sony gaming division as much as bluray has cost them.

Blu ray players & support was around long before the PS3.

I’m talking about when sony FIRST announced the ps3 having bluray. it was WAAAAY before any other player was even announced. so how could you “want” something that wasn’t in existence? simply becuase sony said so? wow..you guys are lost…

Kev- There were plenty of articles written about bluray and what it was capable of doing before the release of the PS3. You act like when I said I asked for it I wrote a petition to Sony to include it. What I am saying is I was very happy to here they included it. I don’t just like games, I like movies and this is a great way to enjoy them. So you don’t like bluray, who gives a sh*t, there is plenty of us who do like it. You wanted a gaming machine and that is fine, I wanted a little bit more and I expected to pay more for it!

False as far as a “PS3 new model” goes. If anything, it’s a new SKU for the 40gb PS3 with the DualShock 3 (rather than the discontinued Sixaxis).

The PS3 price will not drop. The Xbox 360 will go down for sure it desperately needs to be lower price console. As for 3D interfaced maybe it will still suck. And God of War 3 they might maybe show some high 1080p videos hopefully. We all know this already not news just facts.

Kev- you are really getting annoying. All you do is twist what people say in moronic fashion. When did I back petal. If you actually thought I sent a petition to Sony asking for it you are stupid. I wanted bluray included. I had read about it before the PS3. How much more clear do I have to be. Also quit trying to tell people what to do, I’ll post whenever I want. You are not M$, you can’t just buy people off to get people to do what you say.
