Top PS3 pre-E3 lineup Part 1: What’s hot and what’s not
By Mike Ferro
Okay folks, a few weeks ago I went through the pre-E3 Xbox 360 lineup straight down the list from what’s hot and what’s not. As many of you have asked for, here is the PS3 pre-E3 lineup list at last, just in time for E3.
Just like before the pre-E3 game lineup only covers platform exclusive games only “anticipated” to be released in 2008. We evaluate what games will be mega blockbusters and what games have very little anticipation.
1. Little Big Planet - October 2008
The Good: A cute fun looking game that has been receiving immense hype and love from every single journalist that had their grubby hands on it. With the capability to build your own levels and a single player story with co-op mode this game has much to offer.
Don’t ask me why, but this game will sell millions and millions for the same reason the Wii sells like there’s no tomorrow.
This game even has the capability to upload your own masterpiece and rate others as well. Be prepared to see levels full of anatomy parts though.
The Bad: Even though it will sell extremely well, it’s not a hardcore game however most hardcore gamers will buy it on the hype confusion anyway like myself. Wait is that suppose to be a bad thing?
I mean who wouldn’t love to control little cute sock puppets around?
2. Resistance 2 - November 2008
The Good: Resistance: Fall of Man the first game was the only decent launch title the PS3 had but historically launch titles usually don’t sell all that well anyway due to the smaller user base, but this game did defy those odds.
With blockbuster sales of over three million units sold you can bet the sequel will sell more than that.
Going head to head against Gears of War 2 you can bet November is going to be a phenomenal month.
With a full on single player campaign story, a separate eight player co-op story, and 60 player massive online mode this game aims to deliver.
The Bad: Just like what I said about Gears 2, Resistance 2 won’t be a hardware driver like Metal Gear Solid 4 is. People sitting on the fence waiting to jump from PS2 to PS3 won’t be moved by Resistance 2, no it will require more of the old fan franchises to emerge.
It’s going to be a tough month for Resistance 2 going up against one of Xbox 360’s formidable franchise Gears 2. However it will be interesting to see if platform exclusive games will have an impact on each other’s sales, my guess probably not.
3. God of War III - TBD
The Good: Why you may ask this isn’t number one on the list? Because there is zero detail on this game. Nobody knows if this game will even come out this year or be revealed at E3. Every publication ranging from Gametrailers to Kotaku believes GOW 3 will be announced at E3.
The little teaser in the back of my God of War: Chains of Olympus booklet indicating PS3 - coming soon says it all.
Here is hoping soon means 2008, and this is one game that will guarantee PS3 sales, there is no doubt about it.
The Bad: The only thing I can say bad about this game is it may not come out this year which would be a huge bummer.
However the question is with head Cory Barlog and David Jaffe out of the picture will GOW 3 deliver?
4. MotorStorm: Pacific Rift - Autumn 2008
The Good: With being one of the first to deliver dynamic deforming terrain while blasting through mud at break neck speeds, this game managed to deliver, selling well over three million units securing it as a blockbuster title.
Pacific Rift promises to take the race to a tropical island and introduce more vehicles and split screen co-op action on top of multiplayer mode.
Fans of the first game will definitely pick this title up easily ensuring millions in sales.
The Bad: So far the build that was shown several month ago revealed at that point the game was not up to par and looked worse than the original Motorstorm. However being less than 40% complete at that point the studio had plenty of time to polish the game up just in time for E3.
This game doesn’t seem re-invent anything new but improve upon the original game which could be good or bad.
Stay tuned for part 2 of the pre-E3 lineup as we go down the list.

I would like to hear more about FFXIII in part 2.
I was a tad gutted when I heard LBP actually cost pennies - I somehow got it into my head that it was going to be a free download, like Home. I’m such an IDIOT.
Is anyone else wondering when the next Timesplitters is coming?

Personally, when hearing that 2008 was “the year of the Ps3″ ,while not seeing a great game until MGS4 (six months into the year), i find it kindof sad that we still have to wait until the fall and winter months to actually see some decent titles. I’m not against the Ps3 or anything but sheesh if little big planet is all we have good to look forward to ( sarcasm )then i can’t sympathize with Sony in their losses with the Ps3.

Bourne, don’t women gamers like God OF War?
Little Big Planet looks gay.

RFOM was a good game, but was unfortuantly scrutinised (ahem, 360 fanboys) for being too average, which I disagree on.
RFOM was a launch title which are usually rubbish, RFOM bucked that trend and was the best launch tilte I have ever played, so the hype surrounding Resistance 2 is justified especially with the great guys as Insomniac developing (see the excellent Tools of Destruction).
Motorstorm 2: My kind of racer, not boring like Forza, PGR and GT, an arcady racer with lots of great destruction now moved to an environment with more green, destruction, MONSTER TRUCKS!, Water (and rumour has it lava!). There was nothing like in the first MS punching a someone of there quad whilst the flaming wreack of Racing truck bounced of a rock towards u both, now a imagine that but through a river, and the quad biker goes flying into a tree, u speed on over joyed, then a Monster truck flattens u out of nowhere, awesome!
LBP: Speaks for itself, can’t wait to get it. Thinking about making a level that’s like Metal Gear Solid crossed with Mario.
GOW3: Know absolutly nothing about this game, but I loved 1, 2 and Chains of Olympus, for me it’s a must buy. GODS vs TITANS VS KRATOS!!!! (My moneys on Kratos)

lol Royzy, invite me to resistance next time your on and see me? or whatever game you’re playing.
July 13th, 2008
I will, I assure you. When I see you on, I’ll probably slip the Resistance disc in.

Little Big Planet may look “gay”, but I like….NOT the gay part.
I hope we don’t hear the crap about the PS3 not having any games anymore.

what a coincidence that EVERY SINGLE one of those games are “hot” according to this site. i’m just curious when sony fans became fans of shooters when ALL they whined about last gen (and this gen) is that “the 360 only has shooters”. now? they’re bragging about their shooters… gawd i hate sony fanboys…
