Top PS3 pre-E3 lineup Part 2: What’s hot and what’s not

July 13, 2008

What's hot and what's not Yesterday we released Part 1 of the PS3 pre-E3 lineup and today we are  continuing the PS3 lineup, here is Part 2. Click here to view Part 1 of the lineup. Due to the list of lineup this series will be in three parts. So expect the final and last part tomorrow! You just may see the game you were anticipating there.

<< Part 1

infamous hot 5. Infamous – TBD

The Good: A new IP announced by Sucker Punch the people that brought you the awesome Sky Cooper series. With an excellent pedigree and track record of delivering grade A games Infamous sets to deliver.

Infamous is an ambitious project developed as an open world sandbox environment you get to choose whether you will be good or evil. The latest screenshots look stunning with extremely detailed environments even Grand Theft Auto was not able to bring, with bumpy textured walls and ground.

The Bad: There has been no official announcement if this game will be released in 2008 or 2009. The trailer indicated 2008 but according to Game Informer there is whispering that this may come out in 2009.

An open world environment game has always been difficult to achieve levels where it can become successful like Grand Theft Auto, many have tried but few have been successful.

socom hot 6. SOCOM: Confrontation – October 14, 2008

The Good: Anything SOCOM has historically sold very well on consoles; it is a 11 million selling franchise after all. SOCOM II was my favorite in the series and remember playing online for years even after release of the game.

It’s good to see fan favorite map Crossroads re-imaged for next gen systems, you can bet this is absolute fan service to the hardcore fans of the series.

This game could potentially bring in some serious sales numbers if the game lives up to the hype.

The Bad: This game is developed by Slant Six and not by Zipper Interactive. Slant Six has proved their mettle by developing the PSP SOCOM game in the past and with assurance they did their best to stay true to the franchise it will be interesting to see if they can live up to Zipper’s caliber.

agency lukewarm 7. The Agency – December 2008

The Good: Brought to you by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) who also brought the popular Everquest and Starwars galaxies as well. When it comes to MMO games SOE is one of the top dogs capable of delivering the goods and experience in MMO games.

The Agency would also be the first MMO to be brought to next gen consoles. Final Fantasy X was the only other successful MMORPG last gen with a subscription fee.

Apparently The Agency will not have a subscription fee but will depend on micro-transactions which can be a breath of fresh air and bring more people into the addictive world of MMORPG.

The Agency has a lot to live up to and it will be interesting how well SOE will execute this new IP they have been working on for the past several years.

The Bad:  Considering it’s difficult for MMOs to break into home consoles just like RTS games, a flawless execution is required and good marketing on SOE’s part. There is high chance of failure if they are not able to capture new home console audience share for this game.

naruto lukewarm 8. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm October 8, 2008

The Good: I recently got a chance to play the early demo for this game and was stunned at the jaw dropping graphics. This is the first time I felt a game’s graphics have surpassed the actual anime graphics.

With a open world story where you can take on missions and boss battles as well as a compelling VS mode this game looks like it might actually be a game that is as good as the anime itself.

The Bad: Many people might still be burned from other Naruto games such as the Naruto: Rise of a Ninja an Xbox 360 exclusive game developed by Ubisoft. This game published by Namco Bandai might actually deliver, or not.

Keep a close eye out on it.

Check back tomorrow for the conclusion of the PS3 lineup and the final Part 3 of the series, you may see some surprises in the list.

    All those games look gay.

  2. BRad:

    ohhh… SOCOM FTW!!!!
can’t wait for it, best shooter ever.
    11 million sold baby!

I hope they reveal Zipper’s Socom at E3 that would make my day!

  3. Ivan_PSP:

SOCOM and inFamous will be perfect can’t wait to play them for months.

  4. CAD:

Oh and when I ask for part 3 of the Microsoft E3 lineup you do nothing even though you did cover a majority of games missing from the list. Well I’m glad that later on today it will be all over the news about what Microsoft is going to come with and see if the writers on this site have balls to write anything about it.

Ivan_PSP – “your fanboyism is blinding” (i should get that tattoode some were on my arm.)

the new socom looks less then steller. As for Infamous i don’t have an opinion about it.

  6. mack:

    @CAD,

What games were missing from the Xbox 360 list? It seems like all the high profile games were covered…

I even went and looked at the Xbox 360 only list on ebgames/Wiki and I really don’t see any other games aside the ones covered in the list.

I don’t think it’s the writers fault the Xbox 360 lineup for the rest of 2008 is slim.
    Take it easy guy.

  7. Bourne:

hmm, part 2 seemed a wee bit disappointing, i hope SOCOM and infamous are good, although i’ve never played SOCOM before, many people are saying its crap.
