Xbox 360 price cut certain, new 60GB Xbox comes out, look out PS3, Wii

Gamers have been waiting with baited breath for confirmation of rumors that a price cut was coming down the pike for the Xbox 360 Pro. They got their wish, but the cut was negligible at best.
To some loyal Xbox users, the price cut for the Xbox Pro with a 20GB hard drive is downright insulting. Why? Because after living with the $349 USD price tag for so long, the “price cut” is a whopping $50 USD.
That’s right, only $50 USD, and the cut comes just in time to introduce the 60GB Xbox. Guess how much the 60GB Xbox will sell for? You guessed correctly if you said $349 USD.
We have talked about the price cut rumor twice before here on Gamer. Both times we speculated that Xbox would reward its loyal customers with a more substantial cut.
The price for the 20GB Xbox Pro starts immediately. The 60GB Xbox Pro will start hitting the shelves around August. The Xbox 360 Arcade model will stay at its current price of $279 USD.
The Xbox Arcade is hardly worth the price without any storage. The 20GB should have started at a lower price point in the first place - 20GB is hardly enough to store and run games and content. The 60GB is getting there, but most of the hardcore gamers I know will still need more space.
All talk of price cuts and being too little too late aside, Microsoft still has issues on its hands. Customers still complain about the red ring of death and other issues, yet the complaints seem to fall on deaf ears. If Microsoft can’t satisfy its customers, why go with their product at all? I’ll wait for Sony’s PS3 to pick up the gauntlet by lowering their prices as well.

Spideydog - well actually the Xbox 360 HDD is actually 18.45GB and if you take into acount the system files it’s more like 14GB. The PS3’s 40GB HDD is more like 36.9GB. The average game on the Xbox 360 only uses about 5MB for a save file. And downloadable content never exceeds 1GB. Which means that if you play nothing but games you will have ample space. If you whant to downoad movies ang Xbox originals then buying the 120GB HDD would be advisable.
Personally 40GB even 320GB is small for me. on my PC i have a 160GB HDD as my OS Drive and three 1TB HDD for data. So yeah enjoy your 40GB (or less) then, Spideydog.

SpideyDog, you really have an external 500gb hard drive? how have you attached/programmed it for the ps3? i was thinking of upgrading to an internal 500gb but they cost quite a bit. Although if sony keep updating with large downloads, i’ll have no option. Roll on home!

I have a 120 and I only have 40 Gig Left. But Devilcry is right. If it’s only for game them yes 20 gigs is fine. I got my dirve filled with every arcade demo/games and tons of Demos and Videos. I also a a slew of gamer Pics and Themes and some pictures stored on it. I say the more gigs the better. But I need to do a clean up of my 120 gig and I’m not looking forward to it. This is where I wish I had the 20 because there is not a lot to clean up on.

doesn’t the old premium come with a 20gb hdd? no problems on my end as far as running out of space. then again, the 360 doesn’t make you d/l a game before playing, eating precious space, like the ps3 does.

I don’t ever tell people not to post. That is what Kev does. Also I don’t think I am a business expert, I just argue with Kev because he isn’t either. Does anyone else find it funny that the 360 is discontinuing the 20gig and coming out with a 60 gig. The Ps3 started with a 20 and a 60 and both are gone. How long until the 80 gig comes out for the 360? Both these companies really need to just stop changing crap. The casual gamers who want to upgrade are going to be so confused on what they are buying. We used to have one counsole for each company, now the minimum seems to be three!

@Bourne - The ext HDD is just plugged into the usb port. Unfortunately the PS3 does not see it like the int HDD, so games won’t install on it. I use it to store all the media I use and make backups of the int HDD.
Kev and CAD, your comments about females and female gamers is just ignorant and immature. But would I expect anything less ????

I’m not sexist I’m just being real. Me and a group of buddies meet up every 2 months or so just to have a dedicated game night. We don’t bother meeting online, we get together at someone’s house, bring TV’s, Beer and food and have a dedicated game night. No females and no distractions. The reason for this is because some are married and others have girlfirends but we find it difficult to play games at home because of all the distractions that can happen while your there. Some can’t come on till after their girl have gone to bed and in general playing games with your buddies is getting harder to do as you get older. Before women came into our lives permanently we use to play more often and have fun but that is deminishing.

Kev- Sony has had four sku’s that I can think of. But isn’t that the same number as M$? I don’t pay much attention to 360 sku’s but it seems to me with this new one it is four. I’m just saying BOTH campanies need to stop. This isn’t a one sided issue no matter how much you want to try and make it.
