E3 2008: Sony confirms new PS3 and PSN movie download service

By Mike Ferro

Sony confirms new PS3 and PSN movie download serivce Yes it’s true folks, Sony has just confirmed a new service where you can download and rent or purchase a movie via the PSN store starting tonight! This is exciting news, we were wondering if Sony would have an answer to Microsoft’s Netflix deal.

How good will the title lineup be? Who knows, it seems Sony Picture Studios is backing this project with their movie lineup which makes up for at least 40% of the movies out there along with several other studios like MGM.

Here is the neat part, you can actually download the movie to your PS3 and put it on your PSP for on the go viewing, nice! I usually do Netflix or Blockbuster, now with this new service I can cancel both and just rent movies from the comfort of my home.

Also I do a lot of traveling and always worry about renting movies and returning them on time, this will definitely solve that dilemma. Just from the presentation it looks like they already have a good lineup of movies available in the PSN store.

The other big announcement was the introduction of a new PS3 model to replace the 40GB model. The new model is said to have 80GB standard and sell for $399. The big question is will it have emulated backwards comparability?

Right now the news regarding this is pretty scarce; this could in effect trickle down to a price drop if you consider getting the 80GB model for the 40GB price tag.

Don’t worry folks we will fill you in once we get the latest scoop on this new development. Sony has announced this new version will be hitting the store shelves around September time, just before for the holidays.

According to Sony the 80GB has been selling out much more than the 40GB version. Having a game bundled could have something to do with that I assume.

However upping the standard HDD size is a smart move when considering their new movie download service they just announced.

    1. CAD:

I think this was he best thing for Sony at the confrence but I would have perfered if they stuck with bluray as the only format because what they are saying is that they don’t believe in bluray if they need a movie download service. At least Microsoft said no to bluray and stuck with it’s strategy which I thought was crazy at the time but make sence now. Why have duplicate services on he same console competing against each other. Microsoft’s Netflix deal sounds much better and it is really not the netflix that is making it better, but it’s the social networking aspect where you and 7 friends can watch the movie together online. That is just cool.

    2. SW:

“because what they are saying is that they don’t believe in bluray”

I don’t know how you pulled that out of your ass. They trying to give consumers options, thats why they release ‘collectors edition’ games for $20 more.

I don’t want the buy the collectors edition, but someone out there does - and THAT is the point (as well as it being competition for any MS is doing right now ;) ).

This E3 has left me very underwhelmed so far tbh. I’m very disappointed with Sony for letting FF go without so much as a counter punch - I will never play it but it just looks like they’re rolling over to MS sometimes.

Still, we have the rest of the week, but at this point I’m seriously thinking about getting a 360.

    3. IHateYouAll:

The whole PSN download service is a big MAYBE for me.

I like downloading games from PSN because I share them with 3 of my friends and they do the same when they buy games. DL’able-game sharing is something I love about the PSN, and if I can share movies similarly I would love it.

If, for instance, I could by a movie from Sony’s PSN and share my movie purchases with up to 4 other PS3, I would be buying movies with my friends ALL THE F***IN TIME. If movie purchases are limited to only one console per purchase I won’t be using the movie service much.

    4. BRad:

Yea there are people who will always buy physical media, digital distribution becoming mainstream is still like 10 years away.
It’s good Sony has both of their feet in the water on this.

I wonder what will be better Msft getting digital videos from Netflix or Sony getting it straight from the studios.

Msft promised at least 1000 titles by years end, I wonder how many movies they will deliver by years end.

Having a PSP version of the movie on the go is definitely worth it for traveling and saves cost.

    5. Spideydog:

CAD, it’s all about offering choice and is a smart business move, I think. Me personally, I won’t download movies. It is a waste of download quota and time, just to fill up HDD’s with movie content. I will stick with full HD blu-ray titles that wont take up HD space and can be taken anywhere, anytime. But it is good to have the choice to downlaod a title, if I so wish.

Before you start to flame, I am not saying which is better “Download V Blue-ray”. I am just stating MY personal choice.

    6. harry sachz:

      Sony’s announcements = zzzzzzzzzzz

    7. harry sachz:

Microsoft’s Announcements = The schiznit!! We all know who won this year’s E3!

    8. Bourne:

whoa , isnt this service for North America only? I guess i shoulda checked before posting this… i’ll go find out lol.

    9. Spideydog:

What was it that microsoft announced again Harry ????? Oh yes, E3 was a resounding success for m$.

Let summarise then hey… they announced copying everyone elses ideas and stealing a game from Ps3….Whoop Dee Do.

    10. Pariahs_guild:

      About time.

    11. CAD:

Harry your right Microsoft took the show and just blew the compitition out of the water. Nintendo was the worse and Sony was OK.

    12. Wylie:

Are you guys on crack? What was so special about the 360 at E3? E3 is overated, like I said these companies can’t afford to hold onto stuff for months waiting for E3. They have to get the word out as soon as possible. Nothing any of these companies had to say was suprising. How the hell did M$ blow anything out of the water? Please answer Cad, Harry!

    13. kev:

wylie - you always ask us what’s “so special” about the 360, the features, the online and the games. when someone tells you, you respond with “it doesn’t matter to me”… so please stop asking. you make yourself look sillier than you already do…

spidey - it’s funny you don’t want to d/l movies becuase it takes up hdd space but have no complaints with filling it up with games that have to be loaded for up to 20 minutes before playing. hypocrite FTW!!!

    14. kev:

mike - where did you get the number that sony studios own 40% of the movies on the market? i guess you forgot that wb owns the largest library of films…not sony… i don’t even think wb is at 40% of movies available to consumers…

you guys sure like to throw numbers around (33% breakage rate, 40% of movies, etc,) but NEVER seem to give sources to your data…

if you want to be taken with any cred you must cite your source. especially when giving “data”…

    15. kev:

wow…just read the netflix/ms deal. 10,000 movies/tv shows is a lot. count me in!!! blu, who? :)

    16. CAD:

      Wylie,

I don’t feel like writing this again as I just wote this for Borune a few post down so here is a paste to tell you what was so special about the 360 at E3

      No Bourne

Were just rubbing it in your face because you guys toot the Sony horn so much that when Microsoft delivered a KO Punch and Sony just sat there and took it it, it is abloutly satisfying be see Sony crumble. So what if Sony mentioned a few games. They need it! We over on the 360 have so many games that I don’t even have enough money to get all the ones I love. Games are not an issue for us because 360 library is loaded with hits with more to come and more titles to take from Sony. So when Avtars, Netflix, Social networking, Live game shows, Downloads from the net to 360 without being home, 8 friend party support for games and movies, it just make the 360 worth the online price. Sony tried to match 360’s online capibilities and Microsoft just steped up the product offering. Where is “Home” Sony? That is a product that has been delayed and delayed and even the beta testers have bad things to say about it. MS just introduced Avtars and just lke that it happens. WOW!

    17. Bourne:

Lol its funny as well that you take the piss out of sony/nintendo and then go rip everything they make aka singstar (lips) avatars (mii) and also stop trying to justify $40 for live, thats just ridiculous, then you have the cheek to say that the 360 is well priced, boy you’ve bitten the microsoft bait and hard.

Also, i’d like to see this KO punch. Microsoft spent so much time at e3 ripping everyone else off they forgot to do anything worthwhile with their time. I guess microsoft have resorted to now stealing other companies ideas to attempt to sell consoles which is laughable, a clear sign that microsoft has lost the plot.

I’d also like to point out Microsoft’s, as well as M$ fanboy hypocrisy. They stated that the 360 was a hardcore gamer device, which was designed for games only, and slated the PS3 for not being hardcore gaming device, yet now announce, and i quote, “”Digital is the way forward, it’s not all about hardcore gaming”.

It seems that its only M$ fanboys who care about delays. i dont mind waiting when they fix the bugs. If we did mind then we’d end up with RROD.

Lol i also find it hilarious that you resort to bringing up that the PS3 has a “lack of games” when i’m spoiled for choice. My library is large and i still have loads on my wish list. And when the new releases ARE released, you’re still going to say that there’s not enough.

    18. Wylie:

Kev- you really have a selective reading problem. I said what was so special about 360 at E3!

CAD- You got Avatars, congradulations. (Sarcasm)
You got Netflix, we got downloads. Netflix is not exclusive to 360. I can buy a box and download from Netflix as well. I’m sure the service will be available on PC as well if it isn’t already.

I’m not saying it was a bad E3 for 360 just nothing mind blowing like you guys are acting.

    19. CAD:

      Bourne

It is funny that you say Microsoft is ripping of Nindendo’s Mii’s when Sony has been trying to do that with their delayed “Home”. Also I see that $40 is to expensive for you. I really can’t believe people make a big deal about $40. You guys are cheap. Bourne, take a good look at your PS3 and tell me what is original about it. Sony is the King of Rip Offs as for besides bluray there is nothing on that console that is original and inovative from Sony. I have done a list before and I don’t feel like doing it again as the list is long. The only inovative companies and Ideas that are in todays console is credited to Nindendo and Microsoft.

    20. Bourne:

whoa whoa i never said ANYTHING was original about the ps3, please quote me on that. Home isn’t a rip off of the wii. The wii uses avatars, rather than an interactive social environment which is what Home will be.

    21. CAD:

Oh Bourne Don’t fool yourself. Where do you think the whole idea comes from. If Nindendo never made Mii’s there would never be a Home to think about. How could you be so blind?

    22. CAD:

Oh and congrats on your price cut PS3. And the Billions keep adding up. I hope the movie download pay off and off sets the cost of this move. I wonder what will do better on the PS3 Movie Downloads or Bluray sales. How is that for copying Bourne. Where is the originality. I don’t mind Microsoft doing a bit of copying as thay have contrubited much to todays technology in consoles but Sony, that have been copying since day 1.

    23. Bourne:

Dont start this crap. If there wasnt the n64, msx2,nes ,ps1 there wouldnt be xbox360. PS3 home has been in development since 2005, and Mii avatars were being developed in 2007, so how can Sony copy Mii?

    24. Wylie:

Bourne- be careful Cad is going to wip out his list on your ass. You don’t want that, this sounds like trouble, you better run away now.

Its obvious that these two will never concede anything! You have to remember something Bourne, we like our PS3’s they are infactiated with the 360. They are the truest of the fanboy cult!

    25. Bourne:

lol its not his list im worried about him whipping out…

    26. SW:

      BOURNE, GIVE IT UP.

CAD is never going to listen, EVER.

If it could be scientifically proven that the 360 gave you cancer from touching it he would still be ramming his man-meat into it daily.

Seriously man, its like trying to speak to a brick wall.

Just engage Kev from now on ;)

    27. Bourne:

doesnt it? i heard that greenpeace was up in arms because the consoles (yes all three) have dangerous parts in them? So there MAYBE truth behind that…

    28. CAD:

      Bourne,

If it has been in development since 2005 that in itself is a joke.

    29. Bourne:

but then again, your original arguement is thrown to the dogs, so my job is done, and shows how your quick to change topic once on the retreat, much like microsoft/360 fanboys. i found an interesting statistic 200,000 ps3’s sold compared to 180,000 in north america…whoops.

    30. CAD:

      Bourne,

I don’t believe you since you have not fugured that out. How could something be in development since 2005 and not be here yet. why is it that Microsoft can start after Sony and come out before Sony in 1 year? Promisies, Promises, and More Promises.

    31. harry sachz:

Aww the poor PS3 fanboys are in damage control! Cheer up kiddies, there’s always next year. Who knows? Maybe some of those games that you bought your PS3 for over a year ago may be out??

In the meantime, us 360 owners will enjoy our system and continue laughing at the PS3 owners who bought a black, shiny lemon.

    32. harry sachz:

      Hey P$3 owners… smell it….smell it…. now take it!

    33. Wylie:

A lemon is something that breaks down Harry you idiot! Sounds like a 360 to me. The no games is old, I have plenty of games to keep me busy. I haven’t found a Ps3 owner not enjoying their system. I think I am done posting to you, like I said before your name says it all.(Immature 12 year old!)

    34. robb:

what surprises me is the fact that the only new games announced at E3 for xbox where FFXIII (ok thats a biggie - fair do’s, but microsoft only threw money at SE direction to get it) Lips (which is a total rip off of Singstar) and I’m in the movies or something shit like that. Watching that part of the conference was actually painful, it was all so forced like we’re having fun. Add them to the list of Gears and Fable II and that makes, what 5 games? 2 of them being absoloute piles of crap.

Now. Lets compare. MAG (fair enough - nothing has been revealed yet - but in premise its promising at worst) GOWIII (damn Sony - give us more than a trailer!) R&C QFB (if you did not like thr first one on PS3, your a retard, simple as). Ok there’s three brand new games, added to the list of Motorstorm 2, resistance 2, LBP, the agency.

Now add the list of 3rd party stuff to both. I know which list I’d rather have. Don’t you?

    35. robb:

      harry sachz

      seriously?

    36. kev:

bourne - until PSN has all the features of live, the $40 per year is justified. PSN is a joke compared to live. sure it’s free, but so is food from the garbage, but i’d rather pay for a meal in the restaurant. btw; if psn is SOOOOO good because it’s free, one has to wonder why more people are choosing to pay for live than go with the free psn… interesting..

    37. Bourne:

No Kevin $40 is not justified. Tell me significant features that as a paying customer i would benefit from over PSN. More users doesn’t count because that means crap all to me.

    38. Wylie:

Bourne- They just used that $40 a year to pay for FF. They should at least put it up to a vote on XBL. Hope they sell enough copies to make it justified! OK maybe I hope they DONT sell enough copies!

    39. CAD:

Oh I love it when your own people say what I’ve been saying all along. So here is what Jack Tretton had to say:

Speaking to the concept of paying third parties for exclusives, Tretton said that Sony has “invested so much money in the [PS3] hardware” that it simply “can’t write checks for exclusive software.”

See I told you they spent all there money on Bluray and cheated sony owners in the game department. Oh I love it when I’m right.

    40. Wylie:

CAD- how much more can MS spend before they start losing money. Besides they are paying out the nose to keep a game from being a Sony exclusive. How much longer can they spend like that. Wouldn’t of you rather MS spend that money on a new kickass game. I’m not trying to be a jerk, I’m just saying I would rather have a great new game than the 8th installment of an old one. And don’t tell me you think I am pissed about it, because I have played the first a little but its not my cup of tea.

    41. Bourne:

Wylie add me on psn? anihal8r

    42. CAD:

      Kevin

That was funny. Food from the garbage is free!!! HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But now that I just caught up with the conversation above it only makes sence that they charge for the service because they need the money and bad.

    43. Wylie:

Sorry I just noticed it’s the 13th installment(damn those romans), shows how much I care about that game I guess.

Bourne- will do, won’t be on until Thurs. night. Do you play COD4, cause I think I’ve seen that PSN before?

      My PSN is wylie77

    44. Bourne:

yeah i play COD4 MGSO GT5P BO:P RFOM and occasionaly gta4 and i think you killed me repeatedly on COD4 hahaha

    45. Wylie:

Yeah, I like MGS but not sure on the online, will have to try it again. I do play alot of COD4, still addicted! Didn’t buy gta4 cause my friend has it, will borrow it from him again soon. Didn’t buy RFOM(sounds like I’m missing out) will probly get the 2nd one when it comes out though. I can’t afford many games right now, expensive summer!

    46. SW:

      Yes CAD correct!

Sony spend X billion on developing a machine that doesn’t fail!

MS builds a modified PC in a box, fucks that up and has to spend X billion on extended warranty services!

The differance? MS has a huge software empire that gives it the cash to buy its way into the console industry. I don’t blame them, I’d do it.

      We agree!

Oh and whilst we’re talking RROD, stick that ‘metal whiskers’ stuff in your ass (remember?), its the brackets that hold the CPU and GPU heat sinks on, they buckle under the heat and instant RROD!

    47. CAD:

      Wylie

Say what you want because you know that Microsoft spends money on new game too so don’t come talking shit. The bottom line is that you and the rest of you Sony Fanboyz are suckersssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Microsoft has money so don’t worry about that. Just sell the Crapstation and come have some fun over here.

    48. CAD:

      SW

At least MS has a billion for fixes and exclusive content too. Microsoft at least looks after us. Suckersssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    49. harry sachz:

P$3 is a lemon. An expensive lemon! Maybe if you trade it in for a 360 you might get some value out of it. Wait another 6 months and you’ll get less for your trade in.

    50. Mr Sparkle:

The lemon - (Citrus × limon) is a hybrid in cultivated wild plants. It is the common name for the reproductive tissue surrounding the seed of the angiosperm lemon tree. The lemon is used for culinary and nonculinary purposes throughout the world. The fruit is used primarily for its juice, though the pulp and rind (zest) are also used, primarily in cooking and baking. Lemon juice is about 5% (approximately 0.03 moles/Liter) citric acid, which gives lemons a tart taste, and a pH of 2 to 3

    51. craig:

more people on live? xbox 360 almost 20 million sold, ps3 almost 14. total people on live 12 million total on psn 10 million, attach rate is much higher. all microsoft did was annoucne games that are blatant rip offs (lips) and ff13 9fair play but its not exactly exclusive), all this video download stuff is the same and not worth my hard drive space. gears of war 2 is the only worthwhile game on 360 coming out in the forseeable future (maybe fable 2 aswell) whereas ps3 has loads of games which look astonishing coming out in the next few months and beyond. live is EXACTLY THE SAME AS PSN besides in game voice chat i know as my friend has a ps3 and 360 and says the same thing (i also noticed little difference), the 360 certainly isnt bad but anyone who can defend the 360 so strongly and so often is clearly a comeplete fanboy with nothing else to do (i like playing games on my ps3 rather then moaning on the internet), you should try playing games some time or have you got red ring of death and waiting for your 16th replacement?

    52. SW:

CAD - isn’t that exactly what I said?..

But OK, here is your cookie :)

Harry, are you CAD? CAD are you Bill? This is so confusing!!!

      *sigh*

    53. Spideydog:

Quote from Kevin: “spidey - it’s funny you don’t want to d/l movies becuase it takes up hdd space but have no complaints with filling it up with games that have to be loaded for up to 20 minutes before playing. hypocrite FTW!!!”

Once again you contradict yourself Kevin…..Nothing really new I suppose.

Isn’t the 360 a dedicated “gaming” machine only. Your big argument about Ps3 is that it is an “entertainment centre” not a pure gaming machine like the 360.

But now, your 360 is a entertainment system and filling it with movies and media. You call me the hypocrite.

I will spell it out for you again if you wish: I save the HDD space on my PS3 for game data and my external drive for other media. Why would I want to fill up drive space with movies when I can have it on disc, in better quality, without taking HDD space, that I can use for other stuff. How the hell do you get Hyprocritical out of that…..oh yes thats right, you like taking what people say and then twist it around to mean something completly different, to suit your point of view. Kev you just come accross as desperate.

Trying to talk sense with an idiot, only takes you down to thier level. So I’m done talking with you in this thread, until you decide to drop the fanboy attacks and accept that both systems have thier pros and cons. Cmon you can do it, name at least a couple of pro’s for the Ps3…I have done it for the 360 plenty of times. At least I and others here (not all) can be objective about both systems ??

      Can you?

Then maybe we can talk sensibly and objectively about BOTH systems and have intelligent debates.

    54. craig:

      @ spideydog
finally another intelligent human being! heres me proving i can name things i dont like about ps3: i am sick and tired of delays lol but hey its not the only system to have delays and if it makes the product better instead of rushing development its worth it.

    55. harry sachz:

oh yeah craig?? Like how HAZE was delayed so many times?!?!? Yeah, that was definitely a perfect product!

    56. Spideydog:

      Thanks Craig.

Harry, as far as I’m aware, Haze was not a sony company product.

As far as Haze is concerned, it should have been “delayed” probably a whole lot more than it was…lol But generally speaking, it is better to delay a product to get it right, rather than rush releasing and having major issues.

    57. newblackage:

It’s funny to see Cad, Xbox fanboys and Sony retards jumping all over the place about this announcement when both companies f****** you in the back. Sony, you need to get a F******* reality check about your gaming priorities. As much as I want LBP and Tekken 6, I want that system of yours to have differentiating titles compared to the Xbox 360. And speaking of Xbox 360, the day I happened to buy it hoping that somehow RROD would come later, I got it straightaway. Oh well, It’s time I let everybody know of a laughable sh***y first party titles they have. Microsoft you think that putting money across gaming company cocks will get you so far in the long term future. But be prepared to be Royally F***** in the Future. That’s if you don’t do something about your in-house first party titles.

Sorry Microsoft, I’m not here to be nice to you or Sony or Nintendo, But If I want something different and unique and innovative, I might as well go upto my Wii. Unfortunately, the Wii has been a big of a disappointment to me lately and Nintendo had no amazing games to be announced on E3. Talk about your loyalty to the hardcore fans Nintendo. Where is Zelda and Mario HUH? Nintendo, your f****** many Nintendo diehards and that’s going to bite you in the long term. I hope to God, you fanboys open up your f****** glasses and see the light. The light of this gaming era. Which can be summed up in 2 words - Utterly S**t

    58. craig:

i was referring more 2 mgs4 which is an exceptional game in part thanks 2 delays i have played through it 3 times and still love it there is so much to unlock! and this thing of ps3 having no good games: it has loads of great exclusive some of which i have yet to even play (drakes fortune) microsoft didnt win e3 none of the companies did great but sonys was dull only because they have announced most games previously. here is an example: between october and december i am going to buy 7 new games for my ps3 and 5 of these are exclusive

    59. harry sachz:

No you won’t craig, they’ll be delayed! hahaha

    60. kev:

spidey - again you’ve proved you’ve read nothing about this industry. ms’ stance has been “gaming is FIRST”. the fact they even had custom soundtracks, (non-gaming related) last gen indicates their stance. the 360 is designed to do more than gaming, but gaming was always the paramount consideration vs. sony’s “bluray first” stance.

so you have to use TWO harddrives and that’s supposed to be good? just how much money is one supposed to drop on the ps3 after the initial $600 price?

you just admitted you need TWO hdd to use game loading and movies while the 360 only needs one. nice job.

    61. craig:

the ones im were confirmed at e3 for this year, believe me im as cautious as anyone about release dates lol. btw i made some typos im getting 6 games not 7 and 4 are exclusive not 5

    62. robb:

the ps3 offers you so much more for your money when compared as to what your getting on xbox. You have to pay for extras on the xbox to get what you get as premium on ps3.

and yes, why this may be seen as good for consumers who cant spend much, at the end of the day, if you can save up and take the initial hit of the higher price of the ps3 (not much higher might i add) then you will definately save yourself money in the long term. now, kev, write something that proves I’m wrong?

    63. Bourne:

erm kevin, even Microsoft said that “it’s not all about hardcore gaming” i quote that from David Gosen vice president of Microsoft europe marketing.

    64. Wylie:

Kev- if Spidey has the money why do you care how much he spends on his system? That’s how he decided to set it up. Not everyone has to do what you do Kev. Personally, the only reason for me to even download a movie is for my PSP for trips. So I have plenty of room left on my 60 gig and if it gets low, I will buy a new hardrive. I don’t download demos and keep them so I don’t see me running low anytime soon.

    65. Spideydog:

Kev are are a friggin idiot…. your arguments are a predicable as ever…..”you know nothing of the industry…blah, blah, blah.

If I really wanted to, I could drop in a 500gig internal drive in my ps3 that could do the lot, with only a single drive …you tool. What the best the 360 can muster …. 120gigs that has to be microsoft endorsed drive. The 360 is a multimedia centre now why ???? Because sony came out with a better product and as usual, microsoft had to copy and adapt to compete. So you can thank Sony for microsoft bringing out bigger drives, bringing netflix and all the “other” non gaming content. But thats the funny thing Kev, I can coose to have an external drive or a single huge internal drive, that can be any brand…..what choice have you got….bugger all, except microsoft brand.

You must be struggling for air kevvyboy, can’t find your way out of that wet paperbag. Your arguments are pathetic at best.

I just can’t believe you tried to use the “2 drives” argument against me, when any blind freddie knows that we can use a single internal 500gig drive to do the lot. You really are an idiot. Do you think at all before hitting the submit button ??

    66. Spideydog:

Oh and on another point Kevin, now that microsoft will be providing download movies etc, how are all these going to fit on the existing 360’s ??? I would think that you would need a 500gig minimum drive to store all these movies.

Is there any 360’s out there with 500gig drive ? Me thinks that you guys will need to upgrade HDD from your “baseline” 360 (some not even having a HDD). So doesn’t that mean that you will have to fork out more money on top of your original purchase price to upgrade your HDD ?? Which is good for microsoft, because you will have to buy a “endorsed” microsoft HDD.

Pretty much nulifies your argument against me, doesn’t it Kev !! If your going to make an argument, make sure it won’t come back and smack you in the face…..

    67. kev:

wylie - because the amount of money you need to drop on a system impacts the perception of value. once you start adding up the extras, not good.

spidey- ms doesn’t make there own drive. they don’t have a “ms brand” hdd. stop typing. the people making them are Isupply.

the movies on Netflix are streaming…moron….. go read the article again.. no need to jam up hdd space.

“Me thinks that you guys will need to upgrade HDD from your “baseline” 360 “… you think a lot of things that don’t make sense.

the ps3 has stored on it’s hdd: game loads, demos, extra maps, and now movies? you’re going to run out of space very very soon. whereas the 360’s hdd won’t as we don’t have to sit thru 20 minute game loads eating up hdd space.

you’ve nullified nothing sport. only proven sony’s strategy of loading games onto the hdd is proving to be the wrong decision with a movie service planned, unless you want to spend EXTRA for another external drive. no thanks. $600 for a toy is enough. one shouldn’t have to pay more. and you whine about xbox live… funny..

    68. kev:

bourne - exactly. the 360 was always designed as a multi media hub and not a “gaming only” console as was stated by your ps3 loving fanboy friends.

either way, until sony ponies up with 10,000 movies that are available on xbox live, PSN is (once again) still a weak attempt at xbox live.

    69. Spideydog:

Kevin, YOU are the one that always said the 360 was a dedicated gaming system, not us. Your whole argument has been the ps3 is crap because it is an entertainent system and the 360 is a gaming machine. Dont move the goal posts now, when it doesn’t suit your argument. Weak, very weak.

So now you say is a streaming service, another change for you. Wow, that sounds great. Your wonderfull 10 Thooousand streaming movies…I hope you have a good internet connection so that your not buffering all the time and hogging the bandwidth for 2-3 hours while you watch your substandard quality movies. You dont even get to have a copy of the movie for yourself…great deal. Guess what buddy, you and your xbots can have netflix, cause it sounds like s%^t. I’ll stick to real HD movies that I can own, without stuttering and hogging bandwidth for hours…

So now your having a go at storing extra maps and content for games on the HDD…you really are a moron. Let me make this clear for you fool

I CHOSE TO ADD A HDD FOR EXTRA MEDIA STORAGE. I COULD STREAM IT IF I WANTED TOO, JUST LIKE 360, BUT I WANTED A LOCAL DRIVE SO THAT STREAMING WASN’T NECCESARY.

Was that clear enough for you ??? An extra drive is not neccesary, it was a personal choice.

Are you really going to use the “Add on HDD is not microsoft, it is made by a 3rd party” argument on me…. You need reading leasons Kev, I said “microsoft endorsed” Which means you cannot add any old, any brand HDD, it has to be an “MICROSOFT ENDORSED” HDD

I’ve nulified every pathetic argument you have made Kev, you just desperately try and twist the argment and even try and say “we said that , not you” crap

Anyways, I thought you hated this site and were leaving. Bah, come back if you want another beating. Must be pretty embarressing for you??

    70. kev:

spidey - post ANY comment where i said the360 is a “dedicated gaming system”. (watches spidey run away)

i’ve never said that. only that ms designed the 360 for games FIRST, and multimedia second. heck the fact they had custom soundtracks, and music visualizer waaaaay before sony did underscores this FACT.

the ps3 was designed as bluray player FIRST. even ken kuturagi was quoated as saying, “we’ver never once called the ps3 a gaming console”.

noone’s moving any goalposts. just shining a light of more of your lies. i swear if you ps3 fans didn’t lie you’d have nothing to post.

while an extra drive may be a personal choice to you, it’s going to become a necessity to most unless they want to delete the game loads that eat up most of the ps3’s hdd space.

you’ve nullified nothing, except your own credibility. you = joke.

    71. Wylie:

Holy Sh*t Spidey, your going off today! One more nail and Kev should be locked in the box. What’s really funny is him and his Xobt buddies don’t understand we don’t care about Netflix. They don’t understand we don’t mind getting off the couch once in a while. 10,000 movies huh. Lets see between Dvd, bluray, and downloads, well I’m pretty sure you get the picture! Plus what is Kev talking about 20 min game loads, I’ve never had a 20 min gameload. I’m I not playing the right game or is this Kevs made up dribble he pretends are facts again?

    72. Spideydog:

Blah, blah kevin, you lost the argument looooong ago.

No need for me to post proof….everyone here knows those are the things you have said and thats good enough for me.

So more HD space is not going to be a neccessity for 360 in the future…your pulling yourself harder every time you comment, not to mention contradicting yourself.

You say I haven’t nullified anything, yet you have hardly addressed any of the points I put to you. Pathetic.

Nullified Kevin yet AGAIN. Begone 360 fanboy.

    73. Wylie:

Kev- you noob you bitch at the writers on this site for taking quotes and putting their opinions on them. Well I don’t think that quote you put up said anything about being a bluray first. Your twisting of words is old news and myself and I’m sure quite a few others on this site are sick of it. The only reason anyone would run away from you is because you are so annoying no one could stand to be in a room with you for more than 10 min. You may make some good points once in a great while, but mostly its just plain made up dribble!

    74. Bourne:

ROFLMAO kevin i wish i could find the link on here which you slated the ps3 fans that the console is not all about hardcore gaming which the 360 apparently was, and now the 360 is a “multimedia hub” its ok that it isn’t all about hardcore games and the ps3 all of a sudden is crap at being multi media. This is why your arguments are a complete joke, you always go back on yourself, ignore the facts and twist your opinionated crap into fact.

    75. Spideydog:

Yeah Wylie, he has given me a fair bit of ammo recently, so I couldn’t let it pass by.. and sometimes the FANBOY diatribe drives me insane, admittedly….

Kevin can sometimes bring up some good points (though I’ve never seen one positive from him about PS3) But sometmes he seems to go alittle overboard and is off the leash for few days.

It would be good if there could be an accepted common ground that both systems have good and bad points…then we can have some intelligent debates about things that matter ….
