E3 2008: PS3 boss Tretton says Kaz is better, Resistance on PSP

Apparently, according to Jack Tretton big boss man of Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) spills the beans on what he thinks of Ken Kutaragi and Kaz Hirai (aka Riiiiiiiiidge Racer). According to what he says, he definitely likes the Kaz-man better than Kutaragi-san.
Ken Kutaragi hailed as the “Father of Playstation” was ushered out as president of (SCEI) and replaced with Kaz Hirai last year. Apparently Kutaragi was a hard man to work with or work for if you recall my past article about how Sony lost some of it’s potential exclusives.
According to Kotaku, Tretton verifies this when he states:
“There is no question that Kutaragi-san ruled with an iron fist, but it was his vision,”
Tretton assures under Hirai all the regions will be more self independent and “antonymous.” Which is excellent news because each region does deserve it’s own marketing and focus. Apparently Hirai has a better understanding of all the day to day details and going-ons at the company, then Kutaragi did.
Tretton talks about Hirai saying:
“He’s been in the regions. He’s been in the trenches. He’s been outside the towers in Tokyo,.. I think there is a better understanding.”
Well it all sounds fantastic if it all works out.
Resistance Retribution on PSP
Another tidbit of news, during E3 Sony announced a new and exciting title in store of PSP owners, Resistance Retribution. Finally PSP owners can get a taste of Resistance without owning a PS3.
Resistance Retribution will be a third person shooter being developed by the guys from Sony Bend studios, with no doubt direction from Insomniac. Sony Bend is the studio responsible for the Syphon Filter games on the PSP.
Sony Bend is using it’s third generation game engine for this game promising more polygons and more details. According to Spong Resistance Retribution will take place between Resistance 1 and 2 in Europe. You will control a former British Marine battling the Chimera invasion.
The game will also feature an eight-player multiplayer action with multiple modes such as deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag.

Is it just me that’s getting a Resident Evil 4 vibe from this game? …uh minus the mutant aliens that is.

Yes first to comment, this space is all mine… I can say anything I want and it will cause an argument……. Ice Cream is overrated.
Looking forward to Retribution apparently it will answer that happened to Cartwright and why the Chimera no longer need conversion centres. I think something to do with the Grims in Resistance 2, I like the Grims they seem to give the game a bit more of a survival horror edge, they seem similar to the running zombies in 28 days later

if loco roco and patapon didnt help the PSP sell more units than the DS… I highly doubt that this will…
Though its nice to see some good games on the PSP… is the DS EVER going to stop toppping charts?? goddam cute casual games are takin away money from PSPs… I want brain age on my GODDAM PSP!!!
ohh and another god of war game… with realistic physics like the ones they had in Xtreme 2…

Don’t think the PSP will ever get close to the DS. It’s like the Wii….it’s cool to have and when your a kid, and thats important and will sell units. In saying that, the DS is a good device.
Everyone here knows I love resistance, so It wouldn’t be a surprise if said “PSP version…Cool”. BUT, yes there is a but…. I am not a fan of the PSP first person controls. It feels empty without the second analogue stick.

Are you $ony fanboys STILL clinging onto that RROD thing? I should be happy, it’s been dealt with and resolved, and it’s the only thing you can fault about the system. My system has never failed, nobody I know has had this supposed problem. My machine has better games than yours too!

Tretton finally says something truthful. ken was a legend and we owe him much for the ps, however his business and leadership philosophies seem sorely outdated.

If the 360 and PS3 launched on the same day. What do you honestly think the total sales numbers/gap would be between the two ?
In my opinion, and being somewhat generous to the 360, I would say about even !! But that’s my opinion.
What do you honestly think, taking into account the current overall (all regions) sales figures and the 18 month 360 head start ??
I am genuinely interested to hear your opinion in relation to this ??

spidey - first the ps3 and 360 could not ship at the same time. the 360 pulled off a worldwide launch and sony couldn’t match due to “cell” and bluray manufacturing. secondly, given the $600 price point of the ps3 at launch, i’d say the 360 would still be ahead, but not by as much as it is now.
you guys keep saying the 360’s headstart lead them over sony when even kuturagi SWORE the “120 million users of the ps2″ would nullify this advantage. the ps3 SHOULD be outselling the 360 at least 3 to one given they had a userbase 8 times that of the xbox.
the real question is: where did the userbase go?
in conclusion; the 360 would still be ahead….

IF ps3 and 360 released/launched on the same date, what would the sales/gap be today.

The PS3 launched with MUCH more comprehensive BC than the 360 AND both the 360 and PS3 launched with a GARBAGE line-up of games. And you know this. It is not up for debate.

Sorry Arvis but Kevins answer did not answer the question at all. The only line in his answer that actually engaged the asked question was the $600 initial asking price. Everything else was “why the two systems did not release together and his 120mil user base farse” Both of these had no relevance to the question I asked…..and was just another opportunity for him to have a go.
I was not riled up, I like having a bit of fun with old kevvy boy.
If your satisfied with his initial answer, well thats your perogitive. I respect your opinion, but you are wrong. He side stepped the question and concluded with 360 would be in front….baseless empty answer.
I wasn’t interested as to who would be infront, but more so his thought process into coming to the conclusion that 360 would be in front (cmon it was pretty obvious who he would have thought would be in front…) And given he actually made a better attempt to answer the actual question the second time around, has proven to me his thought process is somewhat flawed.
