EA subtly showing favoritism to PS3 with Left 4 Dead
By now everyone knows that Left 4 Dead, a former Xbox 360 exclusive (console wise), has now been confirmed to be coming to the PS3. It’s not all that surprising really if you read my previous story about EA giving PS3 favoritism due to it bringing in the most revenue recently.
It’s really EA’s business practice of making as many games multiplatform as possible as long as it’s feasible. Originally Left 4 Dead was not planned or even slated for the PS3 but now it seems EA has changed its mind and have decided to dedicate a lot of resources to bring this title to the PS3.
We all read the story about Red Alert 3 an RTS to be published by EA that was canceled for the PS3 recently when the developers realized how much time and resources it would be required to port the RTS over to the PS3.
Now it all seems to make sense, considering RTS games don’t sell all that well traditionally (ex. Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars 3 and Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth) EA had to make a resource decision to put full studio support on developing Left 4 Dead on the PS3. Much like before Valve will work on the Xbox 360 version and EA studio will work on the PS3 version.
According to EA they have improved tremendously developing for the PS3 and have learned many lessons from Madden and The Orange Box incidents, however only time will tell if Left 4 Dead will be the successful port we anticipate it too be.
EA now has many internal studios with great experience on the PS3 architecture such as Dice and EA UK so things may not be that bad.
It seems the confirmation came after EA’s financial statement went public as well as news that FIFA 09 for the PS3 will get exclusive content recently. I sense a slight subtle favoritism towards the PS3 platform now it’s raking in some dough for EA.
**Update**
Well folks, I have some bad news for you guys, As it turns out the supposed confirmation everyone was running with turns out to be from the rumors section of the OPM. Lets just put this in the rumor bin for now, but I have an inkling this story may have more substance than meets the eye. I mean would anybody actually be surprised? Probably not.
**Update End**

It has not at all been confirmed by EA or Valve. Unless of course, you are taking confirmation from that pic from the OPM that is from the rumors section. That sounds like real confirmation there. Wow.
If it does get ported I find it highly unlikely to be day and date with the 360 either since the hard date of the PC/360 release has already been given and no other SKUs are listed anywhere at this time. One would of thought EA would have announced this at E3 if correct.
Moreover in the last fiscal year, last four quarters, and last five quarters EA has made almost double the amount it has on the PS3 with the 360. One can look at quarter or two, but without looking at the whole picture it really means nothing,
Time to start some fact finding.

Finally EA is getting up to speed with the PS3 FIFA 09 and Madden NFL 09 getting exclusive content. The reason they are showing PLAYSTATION 3 favoritism is because is making them the most money something everyone loves. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 didn’t achieve that goal.

HAHAHA have fun with another dodgy ‘Orange Box Esque’ port. I’ll be playing the superior version on my 360.

Harry, drop the xbot fanboyism at the door please.
Now, I’m wondering. Having a 360 title go multiplatform is “Favoritism to the PS3″ (after cancelling Red alert3)? But FF XIII going multiplat is “doing a sound financial decision” uh?
Riiight.

Its is very good that L4D is coming to the PS3 but EA has to make sure that it is awesome and worth buying especially among the formidable first party games. So EA, this port has to be better on PS3 if you want to keep your games on the PS3 lucrative.

The 360 is slowly dying, EA know it and i also think MS knows it too. Especially after John Carmack (Doom series and Rage) came out and sed the 360 version of rage will be a worse version graphically and content wise due to dvd9 space! And just think , if rage cant run properly on 360 and looks like it will be 2 discs and worse graphics than ps3, good luck with your 12 disc FF13 with bad graphics. Ps3 owners can start laughing at 360 owners these days. Know thats a HAHAHAHAHA

Really harry? Maybe i’ll play it on the PC for an even smoother experience? Why bother getting a 360 if you can get a PC? Almost every 360 game comes to the PC and it usually better imo.
Sony have more 1st party studios so if you want to play a ps3 exclusive you can’t do it anywhere else…
Sony and Microsoft have a very different view of exclusive it appears. It’ll be quite amusing this holiday going into game, picking up bioshock (or anyother 360 “exclusive”) and reading the exclusive to 360 mark, then looking and the pc section and seeing it there, then moving over to the ps3 section and seeing it there aswell, with DLC included on disc.
Ahh good times.

EA is only making money on PS3 because the library is thin. Therefore their games are more likely to be bought when the lack of other good titles are not there to compete. That’s OK because that is a good business decision so I can’t hate. But Let’s see what happens next year when more titles come to the PS3 Finally, I think. I have 17 360 games and 4 are EA Games. See what I’m saying. I got so much to choose from and not enough money.

CAD how long have you had your 360? Thats not a lot of games if you bought it near launch date, hell i’ve nearly caught you up and i bought my PS3 less than 12 months ago.

” I sense a slight subtle favoritism towards the PS3 platform now it’s raking in some dough for EA.”
that’s it? that’s your entire logic line? what you “sense”.
good gawd, just when i think you fanboys couldn’t get any funnier you go and write an entire article on what you “sense” (noted, SANS facts or statements from EA or Sony)
how you stil have a job is beyond me….
just about getting tired of this aussie-ps3 fanboy-fest. gets tired.
try some facts with your writing… otherwise you end up with fans liek bourne, dwh, and spidey. none of which has a clue about this industry… as most authors on this site…
August 3rd, 2008
kev can i just ask, for no other reason than trying to prove you wrong, where do you work?
if the answer is something to do with the gaming industry or indeed inside it, then i humbly apologise and admit I was wrong, but if it isn’t then shut the hell up.
cause these are journalists who I think may know a little bit more than you, as shocking as that may sound to you kev.
August 3rd, 2008
hahahahahahahaha
robb’s halarious!
journalists . . . oh man, I’m going to laugh myself to sleep tonight with that one . . .
Dan Rather probably was a journalist as well Robb . . according to you at least . .
I’d rather refer to Rather as a liberal however.
Then there’s this Blorge site . . . journalists? Or morons? you pick – not too big a difference between either one of them.
August 4th, 2008
jonathan, thanks for the compliment, but really try spell hilarious correctly next time.
as for dan rather, i dont even know who he is. I aint American if that helps??
August 4th, 2008
robb – none of your business. and no, fanboy, these guys at this site simply take someone else’s article from the ‘net, add their “analysis” (lol) and slap it on this site and call it news.
hardly what a journalists does…
begone. you’ve added nothing of value since you started posting here…
August 4th, 2008
You tell him Kev, Fanboy, Hey you understand this industry better then any one. You leave the most informative fanboy rantings on here.
August 4th, 2008
mindsucker – sorry, the only fanboys here are the authors and their followers. if i were a fanboy i would say “Peter Moore being at EA means that EA will show the 360 favoritism”.
none of that is true in my statement, as there is NO data supporting this. so i would never make such a statement, but the authors feel justified in peppering their “news” with their “analysis” which somehow derives from what they “sense”.
hope this helps, but i’m sure it won’t…
August 4th, 2008
kev, I don’t get why you call the author a fanboy, in the posts where he talks about how great Gears of War, Sony lacking focus and losing exclusives other people were calling him an Xbox 360 fanboy.
The guy seems to own all systems and shell out news regarding both systems good or bad.
I guess it struck a nerve or something there kev…
August 4th, 2008
Hey I’d rather read interesting analysis and personal takes by writters then just read the same crap written throughout various sites… I mean that’s why I come here and I assume that’s why you come here as well because it’s informative while entertaining.

August 4, 2008 – While there have been rumors circulating the Internet that claim that Left 4 Dead, Valve’s upcoming zombie-filled shooter for the PC and 360, would be coming to the PS3, it looks like there’s no truth behind them. We contacted Doug Lombardi from Valve to comment on the rumor and his response was clear: “there is no PS3 version of Left 4 Dead currently in production.”
It appears that PS3 owners are out of luck — at least for now.
Woooops
You guys really, really need to do some serious fact finding before posting stuff like this. The bad part about it you do this kind of thing all the time. Start some fact finding.
August 5th, 2008
Hunkee,
umm.. I think OPM is as reliable as you can get.
The bad part is I don’t understand why idots like you keep coming to this site while complaining about sources, go complain on Kotaku who ran the story as well.
August 5th, 2008
What OPM? It was in the RUMORS SECTION for goodness sake, hello.
That is no where near a confirmation.
At least IGN actually contacts the owners of the IP and confirms if the rumors have any truth to it.
Get real.
August 5th, 2008
brad – you need to look at the authors. mike f can be a bit more fair than Dave P, who is blinding ps3 fanboy.
August 5th, 2008
mike f – now that the ps3 version has been confirmed as dead, can you post another article saying “ea shows the 360 favoritism with dropping of left 4 dead for the ps3″? thanks.
it’s only equitable..
ps..your “sense”s blow… apparently..
August 5th, 2008
@Hunkee,
it’s in the latest Official Playstation Magazine OPM.
Of course Valve will deny this like they did with Orange Box initially.
Bioshock developers said the exact same thing too remember.
Seriously, do you really doubt Left4Dead will be coming to the PS3? Or maybe you don’t want it to come to the PS3?
It’s okay you can be honest.
Me I don’t care, i’ll buy the better version of the two, whether it’s Xbox 360 or PS3.. probably most likely the 360 version will be better.
August 5th, 2008
@Brad, I have two PS3s, so just stop. The fact matter is he acts like it was confirmed when it was nothing more than the rumor section of OPM.
But even worse acts like somehow EA is showing favortism here when in fact that is just made up out of this air, lol.
I agee however with Kev time to run a new story and get the facts straight.
August 5th, 2008
HunKee,
I really think there is some sort of favoritism going on there because EA is giving some of the PS3 versions extras like exclusive content which EA isn’t really known for ya know what I mean?
I know in cases like Red Alert 3 it was just canned because the developers were way over confident that they could port it easily later but we all know what a nightmare porting to the PS3 is.
Anybody can see there is some validity though, no-one will ever know, it’s of course speculation.
I really don’t blame Gamer Blorge, because ya know Gamespot, Kotaku, Shacknews, PS3fanboy, Xbox360fanboy.. all ran the story as fact as well.
*I just noticed there is an update at the bottom of this story.
