Microsoft’s Xbox 360 price cut coming to Arcade and Elite bundle?

By Mike Ferro

Microsoft's Xbox 360 price cut coming to Arcade and Elite bundle? There’s a new rumor doing the rounds today on the Internet and it has something to do with the Xbox 360 possibly getting a price cut very soon. It wasn’t all that long ago we received confirmation the Xbox 360 would receive a $50 price cut on the current PRO model. You can view the details after the break.

Many people were somewhat disappointed with the E3 announcement last month about the price cut on the Xbox 360 PRO model from $349 to $299 because after the conference it was revealed it’s not really a price cut but a fire sale. A fire sale to clear out all the old PRO bundle to pave way for the beefier 60GB Xbox 360 model at the $349 price point.

Now the source that leaked the price cut and the fire sale before confirmation is at it again allegedly leaking more news of an impending price cut on all Xbox 360 models in anticipation of the holiday. Normally I would have serious doubts about the validity of rumor based news, but considering the source’s track record I’m somewhat inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt.

According to Ars Technica’s mole they are allegedly leaking that the Xbox 360 price cuts will come sometime in September with the following price points:

- Arcade (no hard drive) $199

- Pro (60GB) $299

- Elite (120GB) $399

Also according to the mole there will be bundles for all Xbox 360 models in anticipation of the holiday season. If this rumor is actually true then that would mean the Arcade would drop to sub $200 price making it cheaper than the Wii and the Elite would be on par with price of the PS3.

I’m positive a $200 Xbox 360 would move lots of consoles especially during the holiday season, I’m curious if Sony is planning a price cut as well.

Microsoft is panicking and copying Wii and PLAYSTATION 3 to sell next year the console will be completely dead like before.

Looks like Microsoft has hit the $200 sweet spot if this is true. That’s going to be a huge blow to $ony. Poor them…

    3. kev:

not good news for sony. they are not in much of a position to hit anywhere near the coveted $199 price point.

if this hits before black friday, sony is in for a world of hurt this holiday….. again….

casuals are going to eat this up….
