Square Enix give massive love to PSP: Parasite Eve, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy

August 2, 2008

Parasite Eve, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy At the un-pronounceable DKΣ3713 event Square Enix pulled out all the stops and shows everything in its arsenal. I was flabbergasted by how much love Square Enix is giving to the PSP, I’m talking some massive amount of love here.

The PSP has been enjoying great success after a lackluster launch, with the library starting to shape up starting last year with Crisis Core, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Monster Hunter, Metal Gear Portable Ops and Patapon.

Many have speculated judging from the Sony’s E3 press conference there really wasn’t much in store for the PSP in the near future aside Resistance Retribution but Square Enix has shown us plenty to get excited about.

The breaking news at the event for the PSP is the announcement of a new Final Fantasy game for the PSP titled Final Fantasy Agito XIII and also a new Parasite Eve for the PSP titled Parasite Eve: The 3rd Birthday.

FINAL FANTASY Agito XIII

Originally slated for the mobile devices, Square Enix recently announced Final Fantasy Agito XIII will be heading to the PSP. Agito is suppose to implement online elements to the RPG game to expand the plot beyond the single player plot. Hints have been given to an MMORPG style online mode but won’t be as massive.

Parasite Eve: The 3rd Birthday

Parasite Eve, the other game that was popular back in the day alongside Silent Hill and Resident Evil is making a comeback on the PSP. It’s been nearly nine years since the last Parasite Eve game and if you’ve never heard of this game then you haven’t been gaming for long.

Mutant freakish babies busting out of the womb in Parasite Eve kept the kids up at night.

KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep

Kingdom Hearts, Square Enix’s other wildly popular franchise pretty much drove a good percentage of Gameboy Advance sales is coming to the PSP. I actually know quite a few people who purchased a Gameboy Advance just to play Kingdom Hearts.

DISSIDA Final Fantasy

ff

A new title from Square Enix which departs from the normal RPG style gameplay, DISSIDA is an action game with RPG elements where you can fight other players via wirelessly or against the computer with a progressive story.

I have to say it’s starting to look like Christmas on the PSP.

Crap dammit, this is only feeding my need for a PSP!! I was trying to find reasons not to get one, but this may tip the balance…

  2. Sergey:

Kingdom Hearts was never for the gamecube. Only for GBA and PS2. I’m starting to wonder how much you actually know.

  3. dustinmyles:

If you are a TRUE gamer, there is ABSOLUTELY NO reason you should not have a PSP (with CUSTOM FIRMWARE preferably: both a SLIM and FAT!!!). I would advise you get your ass out there and acquire one as soon as possible!!!!!!

  4. Bourne:

    yeah, thanks for that..

  5. John:

I’m pretty sure that there wasn’t ever a Kingdom Hearts game on Gamecube . . . you aren’t thinking of the GBA game, “Chain of Memories” are you?

  6. Arvis:

Wow, Mike. I’ve always felt like you need a decent editor (although I DO enjoy your stories), but claiming you know “quite a few people” who bought a Gamecube to play Kingdom Hearts is probably the worst slip-up I’ve ever seen on a gaming blog. You and DAVE PARRACK need to have a talk about hiring me to edit your stories. You have my email address.

Oh my, your credibility is ruined. You’ve lost the love and respect of the 7 fanbois who obsessively post here. However shall you find the will to go on?~

  8. Mike Ferro:

    lol, yes John,
You are absolutely correct I was referring to the GBA Kingdom hearts game.

I was trying to make the parallel between two handheld systems and what Kingdom Hearts did for the GBA can help the PSP.

Kingdom Hearts was a wildly popular series on the PS2 selling over 8 million units, when KH was announced for GBA sales surged especially in Japan selling millions of units.

I had Gamecube on my mind last night from a long discussion I had with a fellow game journo.
The Square Enix Event also had my brain fried.

Arvis, come on it’s not the worst slip-up actually it’s not even that bad. I’ve seen worse on fellow sites such as Ko…. ahh nevermind. Last thing I want is hate mail from Shane.

  9. Bourne:

oooooooh flame wars between sites, i’m not a patricularly big fan of Ko… i think Gamer has more in depth reports. Ko… is more of a quick update site. P.S (i realise the game site is not actually Ko… )

This place isn’t good enough to hold Kokatu’s jock strap, let alone be compared to it. Kokatu = Booker T, Blorge = Norman Smiley.

  11. robb:

than why are you here harry?
i heard kotaku are desperate for ya back ;)

  12. Arvis:

    Mike,

Daring to go after the almighty Kotaku, eh?
…yeah, that put a smile on my face. I really DO enjoy the articles here at Gamer.Blorge, y’know.
    :)
