Stop the fanboy wars! There’s room for PS3, Xbox 360 & Wii fans
Let’s stop the fanboy wars for a moment, I know you can do it, no matter how tempting it is to compare penis size console superiority. Let’s put our differences aside and realise that we are currently experiencing one of the best console generations ever, with the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii all fine machines. And there’s room for all three of them, and the three sets of fans who accompany them.
I don’t know about anyone else but personally I am loving this generation more than any before. Maybe the fact that I write about it on a daily basis is giving me a biased opinion, but I have never seen the games industry looking as healthy as it does right now. There are three brilliant consoles on the market, all of which appeal to different people, and all of which are having some great games released for them.
The current market leader is of course the Wii. It appeals to a wide cross section of the population, with its instant playability and innovative control method meaning it’s the first console that appeals equally to young kids as well as old people. Undoubtedly aimed at casual gamers, it fits in to the market soaking up everyone who isn’t immediately blown away by the PS3 and Xbox 360.
The PS3 is more than just a games console, with Sony setting it up to be a kind of multimedia entertainment hub in your living room. It comes with Blu-ray, and keeps on being improved by the constant firmware updates. Though some games have failed to live up to the hype, and Home still hasn’t been released, the Playstation 3 is a machine on the march, appealing to hardcore gamers who want the best of all worlds.
The Xbox 360 may have had its problems early on, with the RRoD causing a headache for gamers and Microsoft alike, but it’s now a console to behold. There are some brilliant games on the console, many exclusive, and many which utilise the brilliantly realised Xbox Live. Arguably the gamers console of choice, it does what it has been designed to do: deliver some of the best gaming experiences ever.
Each console is brilliant in its own right, and the industry as a whole is also performing well, exceeding expectations even in light of the global recession that is blighting so many other industries. So you see, there’s no need to fight as we all have our choice of console for a reason, and those reasons are good and proper, and don’t need explaining. Gaming is on a roll right now, and we should all embrace being a part of this global community.

@ Sparkle: Were you birthed on Planet Ass??? What an idiot…..
@ Dave Parrack…….Funny how you mention the negatives of PS3 and Xbox 360, but never mention the negatives of Wii. You were so quick to mention the Nintendo Wii first.
So that right there, proves that you are bias toward the PS3 and Xbox 360 you old cock sucker!!! FUCK YOU!!!! The Wii has the smallest weener….PS3 swings the bigger cock….and 360 promotes its small tweener……So FUCK OOOOFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks David! what a great article. Just think how much better this generation would have been if PS3 had launched on time, was easy to program for, and didn’t include some antiquated blu-ray drive.
But you’re right! Xbox has some great stuff coming with GOW2, Too Human, and Halo Wars and Lips and Scene it 2, plus you’re in the movies. . .
PS3 being more difficult to program for has some cool stuff coming 2 . . .
haze 2 . . .
Lair 2 – the return of the 6 axis pos for ps3
a half way finished Resistance 2 . .
and a bunch of Xbox 360 ports.
Oh yeah – this year PS3ers will get to enjoy Bioshock too . . . sorry, I own and xbox . . been there, done that, on to new things now.
ps3 = old and busted, but part of this console generation
Xbox 360 = this console generation and new hotness.

@GaryBusey:

I’m joking please don’t get upset! (I feel like saying you’re joking is needed here these days

@Jonathan
The fanbois is born of insecurity and lack of self-confidence. Each platform has its pluses and minuses that appeal to different kind of gamers. For me, the PS3 fulfills my desires in a console. This takes nothing away from x360 owners, as I am not retarded enough to ignore the massive catalog of quality titles that hardcore gamers require to fill their time and needs. I think
I used to be a hardcore gamer, but 10 years of MMOs sapped it all out of me. I like to play for about an hour at a time, once every couple days. I also enjoy downloaded movies (especially the new crop of HD files out there) and am a strong admirer of BD quality movies.
If I were to have purchased a 360 instead (I was tempted) I would have had to buy a second box just to play HD movies on my LCD. I know the 360 plays 720p files etc, but having swapped out my HD for a 160gb drive has made it that much stronger of a movie device (WMP11 streams very well, but I prefer to play off local hard drive in case the wife is gaming on the PC).
I am not hardcore enough of a gamer anymore to get a 360. The Wii doesn’t provide what I want in a media centre, so for me the ps3 was, and still is perfect.
I think your post is the perfect example of what this article was trying to put to rest: biased, ignorant cock-waving only does harm to the cock-waver and to their own class of gamer. We all have excellent high-quality choices when it comes to gaming, regardless of our needs and desires.

DAVE lets hope the message comes through.

Damn you!!!!!

Maybe the fanboy wars will simmer down if Blorge stopped posting flame bait?
August 4th, 2008
Oh DAVEPARRACK, the flame wars would significantly subside here on Blorge IF Blorge authors wrote articles (and headlined them) in a more objective way. With every article being slanted one way or the other, either in the title or the content/tone, why are you surprised almost every post breaks down to a flame war?

harry & daveb – SO. VERY. TRUE. well written, fellas.

I agree with the sentiment that all three consoles are worth having (the Wii less so than the others), seeing as how my last couple of months of gaming have been broken up pretty evenly among MGS4, Mass Effect, and Mario Kart. This may be a Golden Age of Gaming, but that means it’s also a Golden Age of Fanboys.

This is the worst generation I can remember in a long time.
I don’t want a computer, I want a gaming console, but the only console is the Wii, and (most) developers aren’t putting good games on the Wii (they need to take a hint from No More Heroes).
If I want the big games, I need to pay for a heck of a lot more stuff that I don’t want, and even then, the big games that interest me are so few and far between, its not worth it.
Each machine has its ups, sure, and they are all equal in that they appeal to different people with their ups, but the downs this generation are worse than any I can remember, but maybe that’s just the internet age for you…
August 4th, 2008
I agree with DaveB , if they weren’t written as intense and baited way there would be less fanboy wars, however if they weren’t written this way, would it get as much attention or create (as posted at the bottom of each gamer.Blorge article (scroll down here a bit further)) “engaging and compelling blogs that entertain and inform”? As long as its informative and educated article/comments without using inappropriate language, its not the end of the world – you could always not visit Gamer.Blorge.

let’s see if dave p can follow his own advice and run a story on this…
