Halo 3 and Little Big Planet coming to PC evidence fake?
By Mike Ferro
There seems to be tons of rumors flying around the net lately, we broke one yesterday about Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) picking up the publishing rights for Ghostbusters video game and making it exclusive for the PS3. Today we decided to analyze two other rumors that have made the rounds: Halo 3 and Little Big Planet coming to the PC.
Let us take a closer look at these rumors and discuss if there is any viability for these rumors to come true.
Halo 3: coming to PC?
A little while ago, it seems according to one source Microsoft sent out an email “subscribers to the MS download email service” which notify users of potential new games for Windows that take advantage of directX ver-x. It’s a marketing email that gets sent out regularly, however the surprising part was seeing Halo 3 listed as one of the games that will take advantage of directx.
Now, this could just simply be a blunder on the marketing department’s part or somebody could have inadvertently let the cat out of the bag way too early.
Is this rumor viable?
Remember this little Gears of War fiasco?
Possible
Yes, it certainly is viable and I mean no one would be surprised at all. Given the history of the Halo series Halo and Halo 2 were both on the PC. I actually own Halo and Halo 2 for Xbox 360 and purchased Halo 2 for PC as well. If true you would probably have to wait another year before getting your hands on it though.
Unless Microsoft has determined the sales has tapered off faster then anticipated. If there is a PC version, here’s hoping for a real map editor, that would just be awesome. Canvases Bungie? Come on now.
Little Big Planet: coming to PC?
Not too long ago some source had sent in a picture of a box cover for Little Big Planet with PC DVD mark at the bottom indicating the game might come out for the PC. That would be awesome news for those who don’t own a PS3, because then they could get an opportunity to control cute lil’ sack boy dodging lava pits and dancing mariachi singer with guns.
Could this be a Sony marketing mess-up sending PC box arts to retailers way, way, way, in advance before the PS3 version even hits the store shelves in October?
Is this rumor viable?
Not likely
First lets take a closer look at the supposed box art, notice anything odd and unusual? The only thing on the box art is this logo which can be found in hi-res everywhere on the Internet, like here and here. When was the last time you saw just the generic logo on a promo box? Even Metal Gear Solid 4 had like five different promo box art with explosive pictures of Solid Snake on the cover.
Also at the bottom you see the Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) logo meaning SCE is publishing a game on the PC? I can’t quite recall the last time SCE published a game on the PC….like never? SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) have in the past but not SCE.
Little Big Planet is Sony’s IP so if they wanted to get more sales on the PC it’s not out of the realm of impossible especially with the big push for user generated content. I guess I can sort of see them putting it on the PC as well, but that’s a big “IF” considering historically they really haven’t done it before.
In closing, people seem to get all in a huff when talking about games coming to the PC. The PC is considered another platform along side the PS3 and Xbox 360 but unlike the home consoles no manufacturer or company makes royalties off the games sold on the PC, basically the PC is like a free market owned by no one. The only party that makes money is the developers and publishers so for you Sony or Microsoft fanboys out there the PC is a fanboy free zone.

Halo 3 is definitely coming to the PC but LBP isnt. Sony dont mess around with stuff like this. Its very rare they release games on a console AND the PC and they are very open about it when they do such as with ‘The Agency’

im guessing LBP- no.
Halo 3- Yes. I mean games for windows is still techniqually a ms platform right?

robb,
well technically no, the platform is PC- manufacter could be Dell, HP etc… but they don’t get royalties for software developed for the platform.
Games for Windows isn’t a platform it’s a standard Microsoft is trying to create where games do a set guidline of things like achievements and take advantage of Games for Windows Live multiplayer etc…, it’s like Steam from Valve.
But game developers for PC don’t have to pay out royalties to Microsoft to develop their games for the PC.
So, in essense Microsoft really don’t make money from having more games on the PC unless they own the IP or their studio made it.

Im sure Halo 3 will come to PC, Microsoft will want to make more money out of Halo for sure But LBP on PC i dont thing so. Sony is worrying about exclusives and they are making it for PC aswell? No way.
When Spiderman 3 first came out they had HD-DVD spiderman 3 advised aswell for some reason only thing is, Damn I should have taken the picture of it. Altho its only for Blu-Ray, DVD and UMD only they advertised it for HD-DVD.

Sony owns the LBP IP. This game will never not in a trillion years come out for PC. If you want this game you will need the power of the Cell Broadband Engine aka PS3. Sony will not give this game to PC gamers so stop dreaming Xbox owners.

yeh i guess, but since MS own both the xbox and windows, you can kinda see where I was coming from.
Besdies, dont pretty much all AAAXbox titles come to PC anyway?

Maybe Sony want a part of the acton on PC like Games for Windows. If this was to happen then who cares. Personally I think Sony has to much going on to even bother with the PC. PSP, PS2, and PS3 they need to get these businesses straighted out first.

yes both will come cuz im cool.

In terms of when’s the last time you saw just a logo on the cover.
How about a few weeks ago?
Spore anyone?
Though I’m well aware it’s fake
