MTV pass on Brutal Legends EA next potential publisher?

Recently I reported that according to one source Ghostbuster may have found a publisher through Sony (SCE) and maybe published as PS3 exclusive game. Now, the other orphan from the Blizzard Activision merger Brutal Legends, may now have found a new publisher as well.

Last time, I said Ghostbusters and Brutal Legends are the two high profile titles that are sure to get snatched up quickly. There has been a semi confirmation Ghostbusters has found a publisher and people were wondering if Brutal Legend will find one as well.

According to Variety, MTV rumored to be the likely potential publisher for Brutal Legends, will in fact pass on it. This is what MTV had to say:

We are big fans of [Double Fine chief] Tim Schafer. We hope the game finds a good home.

The speculation seems to be that MTV did engage talks to publish Brutal Legends but things did not go smoothly.

A new rumor started by Kotaku is Electronic Arts (EA) has their sights set on Brutal Legends and is gunning to get publishing rights for the game.  Variety seems to politely disagree with Kotaku stating their rumor does not fit with what sources have said.

According to Variety, sources have indicated a nontraditional publisher is in talks to publish the game.  EA a video game behemoth known to gobble up studios and developers do have a track record of taking almost any game that looks good. All you have to do is look at Pandemic and Bioware.

If the publisher is indeed EA then Double Fine should know they are in good hands. As far as publishers, EA is one of the best at getting the game out there and hyped up, just look at Battle Field: Bad Company.

This may all be true, but lets wait and see how this plays out before we start breaking out in song and dance. Brutal Legends, maybe off to a brutal beginning.
