Top six Sony PS3 announcements at Leipzig press conference

Folks the next big show after E3 is rapidly approaching us next week. The Leipzig Game Convention is the European version of E3 where big game publishers show up to show off their games. Lets take a quick look at what we can expect from the convention.

The Leipzig game convention will start next week August 20th through the 22nd. Some publishers have hinted there might be some  big announcements unveiled at Leipzig. SCEE, Sony Europe boss David Reeves indicated that there will be some global announcements as well as some ‘blockbuster’ news at the press conference.

Unfortunately Microsoft has opted not to have a press conference at Leipzig this year but will holding a few game demonstrations at their booth. Its fine if Microsoft isn’t announcing anything ‘blockbuster’ as long as we can get some new footage of their upcoming games but something seems to be amiss from their lineup.

Yup, that’s right folks no Gears of War 2 at Leipzig. What a big let down, with everyone craving for more Gears 2 footage this was the perfect opportunity to unveil it. The reason why Microsoft won’t be showing Gears at Leipzig is, well because Microsoft does not sell Gears 2 in Germany, sorry Germans.

Nintendo has opted to not show up for the game convention at all, no demonstrations or press conference. I really don’t blame them they really need to evaluate how they do press conferences if they want to avoid the media backlash they have been getting after E3.

So that leaves us with Sony, what can we look forward to from Sony’s press conference?

Jack Tretton boss of Sony America, at E3 indicated they wanted to spread their announcements out throughout the year and Leipzig would be where some of those announcements will be made.

We speculate Sony will at least hit the following topics during the press conference:

Home launch date announcement -

Ah yes, the mystical near vapor-ware Home might get that launch date finally after two years since its announcement. We already know an open beta is scheduled this winter but an official launch date is still unknown.

 

Naughty Dog’s next project -

Please let it be Uncharted Drake 2, a sequel to this blockbuster title is a no brainier in my book. Could Naughty Dog be working on a next gen Sly Cooper title? If that’s the case I suppose we could wait another year for Uncharted Drake 2.

Team ICO’s next project -

Could team ICO’s next project be Shadow of the Colossus 2 or ICO 2, maybe it’s a new franchise all together. Whatever it is a teaser is in order it’s been over two years since we heard anything from the acclaimed team.

 

Heavy Rain unveiling -

This is by far one of the most mysterious games to ever get publicized. It’s been two years and we have yet to know what type of gameplay (FPS, TPS) or anything about the storyline. However one thing is for sure, we love the graphics!

 

PlayTV announcement -

I think PlayTV will play a big part or role in the conference. Considering its Europe centric device this would be the venue to make a splash about this device.

 

 

PSP 3001 model announcement -

I think it might be a bit too early for this announcement but I wouldn’t put it past Sony to jump start IV feeding us bits of information about it.

 

Now lets sit back and see how many of our speculations match what gets announced during Sony’s press conference, any takers?
