Why is the Wii so unloved compared to PS3 & Xbox 360?

By Dave Parrack

Why is the Wii so unloved compared to PS3 & Xbox 360?The Nintendo Wii is obviously selling in huge numbers right now around the world, and leading the battle to be best-selling console in this generation. But despite this, I still feel that the little white box is the least loved console out of the three currently on the market. What am I talking about? Read on to find out.

The question in the title applies two different ways: Why do PS3 and Xbox 360 owners hate on the Wii so much? Why do Wii owners themselves only show their console some attention every now and again?

We’ll start with the latter, which deals with Wii owners themselves. Obviously not every Wii owner is going to be the same, and I’m sure there are many that have the Wii in pride of place under their TV and play it on a daily basis. But it seems the majority of people tempted to buy a Wii play it very rarely.

The attach rate on the Wii is very low, and that means that people are buying the Nintendo console purely to play a couple of well-known games on it. Wii Sports is the most obvious example, but there is also Mario Kart, Wii Fit, and Super Mario Galaxy to name but three. But that’s it, they don’t bother buying any of the numerous other games for the system, be they crap or good.

Most of the big name games on the Wii are ones utilising the Wii Remote, and once the novelty of interactive gaming has worn off, the Wii is likely only to surface in the middle of a late-night party when everyone is drunk or stoned.

So if that’s how the Wii gets treated by its owners, what hope is there that PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will show it any respect? And they don’t, at all. I don’t know whether it’s jealousy at the incredible success the Wii is experiencing, or downright hatred for the casual gamers sneaking in and stealing our jobs hobby, but something about the Wii annoys owners of every other console on the market.

I don’t think I’ve yet seen a PS3 or Xbox 360 fanboy defend the Wii against the abuse it endures on forums, message boards, and blogs around the Internet. And worse than that, I’ve yet to see a Wii owner defend his or her choice of console either. They just roll over and die under the weight of the hatred.

So the Wii has its problems, from a low attach rate, to crappy graphics, and a lack of third party support, but it’s still a fine console in its own right, and sales are still managing to surprise gamers and industry analysts alike. The Wii’s time will come and go, and that’ll probably be sooner than when the PS3 and Xbox 360’s time comes to an end. So I think it’s time we gave the Wii a break, and let it live out its remaining life being applauded rather than derided.

      Because it forces slave labour?

    2. William:

      Do some research first.

      Attach rate (world wide):
      Wii: 4.96
      PS3: 4.52
      360: 6.89

3rd parties also sell more software on Wii than they do any other system:
      http://kotaku.com/5034951/heres-that-wii-third-party-sales-proof-you-requested

The real question is: Why don’t YOU love Wii, because apparently the rest of the world does.

    3. wtfmate:

By far the worst article I have ever read in a long time. Its just giant flame bait.
Just terrible… even the guy who wrote it must have realised that and hit enter anyway. Just to see the comments that would erupt out of it.

    4. Matt:

umm….how can you love that piece of shit?……it bored me and my friends to death…..unless you are immature…….id truly rather kill myself than play that headache-in-a-box……and i think ps3 has the highest attach rate

    5. Scott:

I have all 3 consoles, and currently I am playing the PS3 the most, Xbox 360 is waiting for new games. The Wii, I purchased Mario Kart right when it came out and never bought another game for the Wii. Personally I prefer graphics with game play. The Wii’s graphics are awful compared to me PS3 and Xbox on my HDTV. Maybe if I had a SDTV, I can live with the Wii, but I do not and think it sucks.

    6. Sean:

      @William…..
Say it for yourself…..i lent my Will out to my friend’s kids since January…..and i don’t missed that piece of shit a bit…..

    7. Sean:

      @William…..
Say it for yourself…..i lent my Wii out to my friend’s kids since January…..and i don’t missed that piece of shit a bit…..well…the kids love it anyway.

    8. DaveP:

Thanks for your input wtfmate. This article is an op-ed, that’s all, and is probably the least flame-baiting post I’ve written all week.

    9. sw:

I don’t hate my wii at all. Sure its gathering dust a little, but then so is my PS3 (its all about the 360 at the mo as its my newest purchase :D ).

But thats just how it goes, if a GOOD game comes out for a console ill move to that console for a while as i did when metroid prime was released or mario galaxy.

The only thing I can really say about the wii is that in my opinion the more traditional or ‘hardcore’ games have REALLY dried up for it in favour of ‘party’ games and a bunch of ‘casual’ crap. But then thats why I own a PC, PS3 & 360 :)

    10. Mike:

The wii has it’s ups and downs as does the PS3 and 360. That is why you are suppose to research that console before you go out and buy it. I know people that buy consoles just because of one game and i pity them because they are so shallow minded that they ignore any other game out there.

    11. darkwhitehair:

well DaveP… some articles ARE flame bait… I do not appreciate it…
I dont come here mainly for the stupidity… I come here for valid news… sometimes usefull articles that I dont find in kotaku and gamespot (yes I go there too)

Its up to you guys to decide whether you want to be a Jerry Springer of the Blog world or not….

    12. DaveP:

darkwhitehair: Every article I write for Blorge has a news or opinion element, but I also try and include some elements to provoke debate.

    13. Sith:

I don’t hate the Wii at all (cept for the online). Nintendo has put up quite a few good games for it.

It’s third parties that are shitting on it.

And yeah, your attach rate is wrong. Wii isn’t that far behind the 360, actually. It’s ahead of the PS3.

And wow at the trolls. Damn.

    14. sw:

So can blorge delete the link out of game accessories and downloads name ;)

    15. Razien:

I have a Wii and I love it. Graphics are not crappy, the third party support is crappy, and his lifetime is oing to be as big as usual, at least. Metroid Prime 3 is awesome, Galaxy is awesome… But just Nintendo makes great games for it. That’s why the attach rate is low. And such a great selling console won’t die so soon (look at the PS2, it still sells quite well).

There you go. Nintendo fans don’t defend themselves that much because there is no need to get into stupid fanboy discussions, the attach rate is low in comparision (it isn’t bad; 360 ar is too big) because developers are dumb enough not to make good games for a best-selling console, and Wii owners that just don’t want to play colorless dumb FPSes are happy with their purchase.

Oh, and some multiplat owners love the Wii, because it complements their experience. Visit IGN, GoNintendo or Kombo to see.

    18. Siege:

I love my Wii and actually play it a little bit more than my 360. That’s mostly because of Brawl, though. I’ll be playing my Wii and DS (Final Fantasy IV) even more since my 360 RRD’d today… I was just getting into Mass Effect too…..

    19. Randomer:

A crumbling tower: Sony lays siege to the 360’s weak spots

It wouldn’t be accurate to say that the sky is falling for Microsoft’s one and only gaming console, the 360, but it may be time to look at what the company is doing right… and where it’s going wrong. The Sony PlayStation 3 is beginning to chip away at the 360’s lead in both software and hardware sales in the US, and that system only seems to be picking up steam. In contrast, the 360 doesn’t seem to have much real momentum these days.

While it’s hard to find ways for Microsoft to get its mojo back, we can easily identify a few problem areas that are becoming clear as the 360 ages. These are the weaknesses in Microsoft’s strategy that have to be addressed before the system can hope to get its groove back. Let’s take a look.
You have to find your voice

When the PS3 launched, the 360 was the system with more, better games, and the better online strategy. Microsoft also did a wonderful job in poaching some of gaming’s largest franchises. Microsoft even brought this up at its press conference at E3: We have Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry, and now Final Fantasy! Look at how we’ve caught up to Sony!

The problem is these games are still on the PlayStation 3, and Microsoft isn’t offering much in the way of improvements to these titles. In fact, given that Microsoft bet on the wrong optical format, we don’t know how many discs Final Fantasy XIII will take up when the title arrives on the 360. What else does Microsoft have in the way of exclusives? Halo is a system-seller, sure, but Metal Gear Solid IV is still a PS3 exclusive. Microsoft has many solid racing franchises, but nothing like the power that Gran Turismo brings to the system.

Xbox Live is a great service, but it’s not clear that all of its features are needed. While the hardcore complain about Nintendo’s friend codes, most mainstream gamers are more than willing to put up with them. And Microsoft’s competitors aren’t standing still; Home could be the silver bullet that finally gives Sony the edge in online play. The PS3 has one of the most anticipated casual games ever with LittleBigPlanet, and the branding of Sackboy is already amazingly strong.

Grabbing Final Fantasy was a coup, but the 360 needs more than parity

Add idiosyncratic games, such as Flower, that coming to the PS3 and Nintendo’s absolute dominance of the casual market, and you have a gaming world where cherry-picking old franchises is no longer enough. Gears of War 2 looks great, but Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 look just as good in terms of scale, graphics, and online play.

Microsoft needs to step up efforts to keep its brand strong. The new Viva Pinata game looks good, but that was a game that didn’t set the world on fire with its fire iteration. Lips looks okay, but with Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour coming up, a voice-only game might not find a home in the collection of most gamers.

Microsoft has spent so much time trying to match Sony’s past glory in terms of game selection that it finds itself somewhat at a loss now that Sony has managed to keep some games as exclusives, at the same time its developing all news ones. The new firmware update that will refresh the UI of the 360 looks strong, but the press gave it a scarily icy reception at E3; the full-scale plagiarism of the concept and design of the Nintendo Mii had many onlookers audibly laughing. It was not a comfortable moment.

Will Halo be enough in the future? With Bungie now independent, that’s a very large, very open question. It’s time for Microsoft to find it’s own voice, and give itself a unique feel in the market. Its old tricks and the “first to launch” advantage isn’t enough anymore.
Find a home in the world

We tend to focus on US sales, because we live in the US. But gaming is an international business, and Microsoft has seen almost all of its success in the US. Both Nintendo and Sony do very good business in Japan and Europe, while Microsoft has always struggled in those markets. Heck, in Japan, the big story is the sales of Sony’s PSP.

Microsoft depends on US sales and, while the system sees spikes in other territories when there is a launch of specific, big-name titles, it tends to flounder otherwise. It’s hard to think of a way for Microsoft to make in-roads in Japan, but Europe has to be seen as a major battleground. Both Nintendo and Sony have multiple systems that are doing bang-up business across the globe. Microsoft has one system that does well in one market. It might be too late for Microsoft to grab a piece of the portable business, and the Zune is hardly an opportunity in that area, so Redmond is left with one option: the 360 simply has to step it up outside of the US.
      Take the PS3’s advantages seriously

Whether or not Microsoft has fixed its Red Ring of Death problem, the fact remains that most gamers think the hardware is untrustworthy. You hear about it in the forums, in the game stores, from even casual gamers… everyone either has had systems go bad or they know someone who has. The PlayStation, on the other hand, is damn near rock-solid. Microsoft has to start getting the word out that it has fixed the reliability problems; pretending like this issue never happened is not the solution.

Microsoft also has to pay attention to the hard drive of the PS3. The drives are large, getting larger with the standard systems, and anyone can swap out their drive for a roomier one. Heck, Sony suggests it and gets the word out about DIY tutorials on the upgrade. Microsoft, on the other hand, is sticking with expensive, proprietary drives. It’s a situation made more frustrating by the fact that, without large, standard drives, Microsoft can’t begin to match Sony’s efforts at releasing full games through its online portal.

There is also the fact that Sony’s online offerings are free. Yes, Xbox Live is better. But how much better? There are large numbers of gamers out there who simply will not pay money for online play, and are more than happy with Sony’s offerings. So what if you can’t send a voice message across games? Sony’s newly-launched in-game XMB adds a ton of functionality, and the Trophies it brings seem to be gaining popularity; I know many people personally who are revisiting old games to tackle the new challenges. Xbox Live, but it may not matter; the more powerful Sony gets with the PS3, the less Microsoft can count on Live as a profit base.

There is also the fact that Sony’s got the Blu-ray drive, provides strong multimedia functions on its system in general, and its video rentals and sales work seamlessly with your PSP if you want to take your content on the road. The PSP-PS3 connection gives you so much cool functionality that it makes consumers want to own both for a great media experience. Microsoft has no competition for that at the moment.
We’re not offering solutions, just problems

How should Microsoft fix these issues? That’s a huge question, and it can be argued for days. Whatever your preferred answer, these problems are real, getting worse, and starting to show up in the sales numbers. Microsoft doesn’t have the wiggle-room it did in the market even a year ago, and it’s past time to step up to the competition.

Does the company have a viable plan to do that? We’ll see as we move into the holiday season. What’s clear is that the competition is now much stronger across the board, and that’s a good thing for gamers.

Awesome response Dave P. I agree wholeheartedly.

    21. lol:

horrible “article” full of disinformation, pure BS and wishful thinking. the autor = biased fanboy

btw,the 360 and ps3 failed because of their horrible old retro controllers, not the price. people in my country pay 800 USD for the wii. 800 USD. again. 800 USD. its not the price. is the fking remote + accessible software.

    22. Rhino:

When I purchased my console these were the factors that helped me select:
      a) Costs to play online
      b) Use as a media centre (includes HDD size)
      c) High Dev capability.
      d) Hardware reliability.

At the end of the day b & c didn’t enter the equation, and from my PC gaming experience I refused to play any game that I had to pay to play online.

The deciding factor was that I was not about to fork out a bucketload of money for a system that was going to RROD on me, so my money went to the PS3.

I didn’t know if it was going to happen to me, but the fact remained the net was plastered with articles from all walks of life (and not just fanboy websites) about this, so it was a very real problem that I was not going to risk being a statistic of.

Now I have some more money, and I have been thinking about getting a 360, but items b, c & d are no longer important, and the fact that I will need to pay to play online with the 360 prevents me from buy the system.

    24. Roto13:

If I had to pick one console to play for the rest of this generation, it would be the Wii. I have more Wii games than PS3 games by a long shot (I don’t have or want an Xbox) and they’ve gotten more average play time.

I think the internet hates the Wii because the internet hates everything. Also, because “hardcore” gamers are a bunch of whiny babies who can’t help but burst into tears whenever a company actually has the nerve to pay attention to someone besides them. Remember when Animal Crossing was announced at E3 and people started complaining about it? When Animal Crossing DS was announced, these people were crapping themselves with glee. It’s gotten to the point where people are actually denying that they enjoy a game just because then they’d have to admit that they don’t actually hate the Wii and everything it has to offer.

    25. jay:

give the wii a break???? Why don’t you give me a fucking break!

I own a ps3 and wii! I don’t really compare the two……..my ps3 is for single/online gaming in def and the wii is generally used with family and friends!

Can I ask you a question…. Why does this site ask stupid questions that make people feel angry? Is it to generate visits for your advertising????

      Idoits

    26. CAD:

Dave Parrack get your fact straight first.

      This is taken from Joystiq:

“Nintendo has sent GameDaily a second chart to set the “record straight” that third-party titles do sell on the Wii — when comparing all consoles for the first 19 months. We contacted NPD to get a little more objective perspective on the matter and the company broke down some data and answered our questions about the true impact of Wii Play.

For the first 20-months at market, which is pretty much what the above graph shows, this is the breakdown:

Wii: 60 million software units total, 56% are third-party units or 33 million (Nov. ‘06 through June ‘08)

      Xbox 360: 35 million software units, 84% third-party or 29 million (Nov. ‘05 through June ‘07)

      PS3: 25 million software units, 82% third-party or 20 million (Nov. ‘06 through June ‘08)

The life-to-date sales for the Xbox 360, which was out a year before everything else, would skew the numbers to show a total of 82 million units sold, with 82% third-party, for a total of 67 million units. As for the “software” controller bundle known as Wii Play, it has sold 6 million units. If we completely removed Wii Play from the Nintendo figures, it would actually boost the company’s third-party data to 62% of a 54 million unit total.

So, obviously, third-party games sell on Wii. The perception that they don’t is probably caught up in sales ratios and looking at the 80%-plus third-party sales on the competing consoles. Also, third-party publishers probably aren’t looking at just the first 19 months, those companies probably look at the overall sales chart.”

    27. CAD:

Oh Dave Parrack, How many drugs did you take. You sir have officially lost your complete mind. I have to say first that this is the only place I have been where the Bloger joins the conversation and you do it a lot. Your so threatened at what people think that you itch to respond. It’s so funny to watch you jump into damage control to defend yourself. It just shows that what you write can’t stand up for it’s self, you fell as if you have to explain and elaborate further, how sad. You could have just made another topic with that garbage that you just wrote. If I had time to pick apart that Bullshit I would but really, you’re not worthy of my time and effort to do so. Only Idiots would read that and agree with you.

    28. phisheep:

“I’ve yet to see a Wii owner defend his or her choice of console”

Don’t get around much, do you? Here goes. First, let’s demolish some bad preconceptions.

“The attach rate on the Wii is very low”

Actually no. It is about the same as the PS3, which came out at the same time.

As for the Xbox 360, it came out earlier, and that affects the figures. 360 has been out for about 30 months on roughly straight-line sales, so the average 360 has been owned for 15 months and has sold 6.89 games. That’s 0.459 games per console month. Or, equivalently, a 360 owner buys a game every 2.2 months.

The Wii has been out about 20 months, so average ownership 10 months and attach of 4.96. That’s 0.496 games per console month, or one game every 2 months.

So the rate of buying new games is about the same across all three consoles, and the ‘attach rate’ argument is complete tosh.

So it doesn’t ‘mean’ that Wii players buy fewer games (they don’t) or that they play less.

“They don’t bother buying any of the numerous other games for the system”

      Rubbish – see above.

      “crappy graphics”

On a standard definition TV, which most people have, the graphics are the same. A PS360 gamer who plays on a standard TV is like the guy who boasts about his 150 mph car, which he can’t use to its full potential because there’s a speed limit on the roads.

“once the novelty of interactive gaming has worn off”

Thing is, it doesn’t wear off. It is a natural, intuitive and fun way of playing which makes the 360 and PS3 controllers look so 20th century.

      “lack of third party support”

      Untrue, see the Kotaku article.

“The Wii’s time will come and go, and that’ll probably be sooner than when the PS3 and Xbox 360’s time comes to an end.”

You are missing something big here. Huge. The Wii is a family machine. And you know what that means? It means that when the boy leaves home he takes his PS360 with him. But when the children leave home, they *each* want to take the Wii with them – and the parents want to keep it home too. That means that even without any sales to new families, Wii sales will about TRIPLE in the next 5-10 years.

Don’t write it off any time soon.

    29. Trurl:

All normal people love the Wii. Only Nerds who play eight hours a day in dark cellars are against Wii.

The Wii has games for all family members (horror, action, party, simulation etc.) and not only boring cloned shooters like the xbox.

    30. xiaomayi:

      Hum.

This statement is mainly wrong : the attach rate on Wii is actually better than on 360 and PS3, especially if you considerer that 360 has been out for one year longer.

Also, published numbers show that the Wii owner DO play their games often and for a long time (see the stats from Nintendo chanel…)

But it’s true that pre teens tend to like PS3 and 360 more : it’s “core”. hahahaa

    31. VinTheDean:

The problem that I have with the Wii (and I think alot of people might agree) is thatit is considered NEXT GEN and it is not really NEXT GEN. Next Generation to me means pushing the envelope, pushing the limit and the Wii really did not do this.

Then only thing they really did is the Wii Remote thingy. Yeah it kind of cool to be able to actually Bowl or Swing a bat or something but that is about it. That is a novelty it is NOT NEXT GEN. It is basically a PS2,XBox with a motion control.

The only reason is selling is because of the price tag. It’s cheaper than the other two consoles. When parents go to buy their kids somethig for Christmas, Birthday, Graduation, Whatever, they see that the Wii is the cheapest. These parents are not gamers. They are may not even be casual gamers. Because if they were, they would realize what the other consoles have over the Wii.

    32. OmniGhost:

When I saw this article, I thought it would be intelligent, Talking about how 3rd party companies aren’t giving it enought attention to make good use out of the controller and squeezing as much graphics out as they can instead of making direct ports of ps2 games and throwing on poor wiimote controls, but i was wrong.

I am a hardcore gamer. I own a high end PC. I have friends. I own a Wii. My grandma plays the Wii. My grandma does not play other consoles. I think it has something to do with easy of control. Virtually, Everyone can play the and want to play it. The hardcore gaming market is a niche market, and the Wii has tapped into a much larger market and does not need the hardcore market to survive a long life. My grandma does not care about graphics. The Wii has tapped into a market that has almost no bottom. PS3 and 360 are niche devices that should not be compared to the much more intellegently planned out Wii. I am sorry your ego’s are hurt because there are more casual gamers out there, But think on the bright side, This Means you are special.

    33. CAD:

      Ivan

Why would you post Dave Parrack name on that long article when it was really you. So you go around possing as poeple. Sorry Dave but I now realize what hapened. Ivan you are an Idiot.

    34. Matt:

“The attach rate on the Wii is very low, and that means that people are buying the Nintendo console purely to play a couple of well-known games on it.”

Low attach rate at this point isn’t bad. It means more that the Wii consoles are selling than games are not.

A high attach rate at this point in the generation would be worrying, though I’m sure Nintendo wouldn’t mind it being a bit higher than it currently is.

“I’ve yet to see a Wii owner defend his or her choice of console either.”

Wii owners (or THIS Wii owner, anyway) doesn’t feel the need to defend their purchase. Why would I spend hours on end defending what console I bought, when my console has so many games I could be playing.

I guess that says something about the “great” games for the PS3 and 360, since those owners would rather spend more time fighting over which is better than playing.

    35. mgs fanboy:

“Why do PS3 and Xbox 360 owners hate on the Wii so much? ”
      - i think PS3 owner hate Xbox360 owners more and vice versa.. lol.. =)

“Why do Wii owners themselves only show their console some attention every now and again?”
      - wii games are meant to be played with only using “some attention” and be played just “every now and then” to experience fun / enjoyment.

“I’ve yet to see a Wii owner defend his or her choice of console either.”
      - there are posts here that defend the wii. and majority of the wii owners do not go to this kind of site. the “core” age group do visit these site often and it is proven that the core age group prefer the 360 and ps3.

ps3 fanboys have their ps3, 360 fanboys have their 360, and wii fanboys have their wii. now, everybody’s happy. we all have our own reasons why we support those consoles.

    36. Roto13:

VinTheDean: First, learn what “generation” means. Second, you can be damn sure the PS4 and Xbox 720 are going to be trying their hardest to emulate the success of the Wii.

    37. EdEN:

I own more 3rd party Wii games than 1st pary, so the whole “3rd party games don’t sell on Wii” is complete bull.

I also purchase around 40 games a year between consoles and handhelds, and about 40 VC (and now Wiiware) games a year, so I’m set from here until march (AT LEAST).

No More Heroes, Zack & Wiki, Dragon Quest Swords, Resident Evil: UC, Kororinpa, Dewy’s Adventure, Elebits, Harry Potter, SNK Arcade Collection Vol. 1, Harvey Birdman, Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire, Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection, FFF: Chocobo’s Dungeon, Mercury Meltdown, Okami, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Trauma Center: Second Opinion and Trauma Center: New Blood, just to name a few, say hi…

    38. Norm:

I purchased my Wii because of the family friendly games.

I don’t need to defend the wii because it doesn’t need defending. It is beating the PS3 and 360 hands down.

    39. The Future of Sega:

All of you can go FUCK yourselves!!! The Wii sucks cock shit out of a buffalo’s anus! I’d rather fuck a cactus and suck my own cock than to play the Wii! It’s GARBAGE!!! :P

    40. The Future of Sega:

Hey great!!! I’m no longer banned from the site :P You know this place feels like home kind of…..Although there are a few PESTS crawling around in here *cough cough Xbox 360 fanboys cough* :P

    41. Arvis:

I think the biggest reason you rarely see people in forums defending the Wii is because 80% of Wii owners are not gamers. The other 20% are gamers who are fooling themselves and nobody else. You can babble about how “fun” waggle is until the cows come home, but until the Wii gets more than three substantial games, it will remain a toy rather than a video game console.

    43. The Future of Sega:

“Your comment is awaiting moderation”-What the fucken shit!? Oh I’m sorry Dave! Did I hurt your feelings, by saying FUCK YOU!!!!

    44. The Future of Sega:

Look seriously if you guys are going to delete my comments then just BAN me for fuck sakes!!! I’ll find another site to continue my rampaging and rants at :P……..But it’s clearly evident that the PS3 swings the biggest cock compared to 360’s small tweener :P

      Fuck fuck FUCK!!!

    45. Bourne:

I get the “Your comment is awaiting moderation”, don’t think your that special…

    46. Arvis:

      Bourne,

Actually if I try and post from any computer that isn’t my work or main home, they won’t even put my comments up. I tried posting from one of the PCs in my in-home studio, got the “awaiting moderation” message, and then the posts never went up.

      so,
first, im 33 years old, got family, play since i was 6 years :-) [yess, oldshool rulez, atari2600 and other little tv-game-consoles]. second, sorry for my bad englisch, not my native language.
ok, let me say something about all these next-gen, hardcoregaming, camparsions…shit: i got the most consoles over the years, PC too, is clear. BUT i’ve never owned a NintendoConsole (ok, there was the original Gameboy, my only BigN Console - i always had segas, sonys, neogeo, pcengine and so far…) cause i thought, nintendo is for kids. now, after playing for 25 years, it was boring ! dumb button smashing…everytime the same. old wine in new bottles. then, i’ve seen the wii before launchday and i thought: this controlling is the next step. could be fun. so i bought the wii on launchday! and its not NEXTGEN - its better, its NEXT LEVEL ! i got the ps3 for bluray, the x360 for some onlineplaying…meanwhile, i only play on wii. why? its the controlling ! FPS are so intuitiv on the wii (there are some good ones: moh:h2, metroid3, cod…), i will never play a fps with a standardcontroller like ps3/x360, sorry, not my kind. thats so lastgen. another example: look at the godfather. the game is on the xbox a good game, but on the wii, with these controls, omg, thats playing! or look at resi4 ! perfect.
yes, the grafix are on the other consoles truely better, really. but, there is old lastgen controlling, nothing new…for me ! when i want graficblasters, i play on my PC (aside the wii, the only thing to paly FPS (mouse+keyboard) - i cant/want play with these analogsticks in FPS, its ugly and clumsy, for me].
look, the wii is only ca. 2 years old…now wii get the cool games, from 3rdpartys too. it seems, they managed the wii. look at the conduit, cursed mountain etc. -> the grafics are really nice ! the wii can do the same effects as the others, better in some pieces, the wii doesnt can do HD-Resolution, thats all. only a smaller resolution. and ? whats the prob? i play for fun, for playing, not for grafics. its so redicioulus: the most x360 and ps3 owners i know, got no FullHD TV - the most got normal TVs or HDReady-crap ! So they havent per definition no HD Grafics, cause their TV cant do 1080p. nice idiots.
for me, i play wii 5-7 days a week. there are plenty of good games, nice-looking games too, and the really wii-boosters will come from the 3rdpartys. just wait.
and, look at the ps2: there are so much crap games too !

for me, im lucky with the wii. its fun to play again. like a children. ist so muchmuch fun beating out the shit of someones head in the godfather: blackhandedition ! this feeling cant be delivered by the x360 and the ps3, sorry.

the best: meanwhile we (daughter and me *g*) got a ds. yes, its great too. now we can look videos on the psp, and playing fine with the ds.
