Will Final Fantasy XIII exclusive demo move PS3s?

By Mike Ferro

Will Final Fantasy XIII exclusive demo move PS3s? This is an interesting question I asked myself, wondering at what lengths Final Fantasy fans will go to play the demo. A couple weeks ago we talked about the Square Enix announcement that PS3 fans will be able to get their grubby hands on an exclusive demo of Final Fantasy XIII way before the actual game gets released.

Now it seems like the Final Fantasy XIII demo is big enough to be a full fledged game. Okay, maybe not that massive but the word is, the demo is suppose to be over two hours long and at least longer then the Advent Children movie. It’s quite understandable why an RPG game needs to have a huge demo when considering a quick five minute demo could never do any RPG game justice.

According to PSU the latest edition of Famitsu indicates that the demo will come on a separate  Blu-ray disc along with Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. The movie will be the uncut version including all the scenes that didn’t make it in the previous release.

This is definitely a Final Fantasy fan’s dream come true and it looks like they will have to go out to buy a PS3 now if they haven’t done so. I can see many people just purchasing a $399 PS3 to get an opportunity to play the demo, yes that’s how desperate Final Fantasy fans are.

If Final Fantasy XIII is anything in the vein of it’s predecessors then you know that even if a straight play through will last around two hours there will be side quests, leveling up and places to explore adding up to quite a big chunk of time. It’s not unusual for a full play through of a Final Fantasy game totaling upwards of a 100 hours if you try to do everything and level up to 99.

This is one game that will definitely make a huge splash on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 when it comes out late next year.

Will it move a few thousand? Sure, thats a given. Will it make any meaningful impact? I don’t think so.

    3. josh:

I bought the ps2 because of FFX and one reason I’m buying the ps3 is because of FFXIII and XIII Versus.

I am very much going to enjoy this game. Loved Lost Odyssey, it has rekindled my love for JRPGs. Not the normal kind of love, no, this is the kind of love only found in German movies…

      Amen to that Harry.

    6. Arvis:

I already own Advent Children, but it looks like I’ll be owning it again.

personally i rate FF VII as the best as the story was at lest no going of n a slight bender every time you open up conversation with some bleary dots. Sow FF XIII better at lest have sensible combat, sum sort of story or Closet Cloud Transgender is going to be booed of the stage and JRPG’s as we knew them will be bugged.

If the demo is truly exclusive to PS3, it WILL move some units but who can anticipate how many? You can’t just extrapolate from prior sales, but I guess this is good news for FF fans on Sony consoles considering the game itself won’t be exclusive.

BOL Hairy Sack. I own a few German movies and can say that there is no love in those movies. Lots of sick shit, but no love.
