GC 2008: New PSP 3000 model announced at Leipzig with mic

Folks it seems like we hit one of the rumors in our anticipated Top six announcements for GC Leipzig story. Sony during their Press Conference announced the PSP 3000 model, its sleeker, better and faster than a speeding bullet. This rumor has been circulating for months now, glad to see it was true. Details after the jump.
According to Sony’s press conference the new PSP 3000 will have a better screen for allowing better display in natural light so you can see what is being displayed outside in the sun, which is great considering how difficult it is to see anything with a glare directly on the screen on the current model.
Apparently there are some minor exterior improvements done as well. There is an addition of a mic on the PSP as it has been speculated. This functionality will no doubt be used for the Skype feature on the PSP. Now you can use your PSP as a phone where ever there is Wi-Fi connection. Now all those games on the DS where you blow into the mic can be ported to the PSP.
Currently the launch date is set for October 15th but that is the European launch date with no word on a US date so far. There will be a total of eight bundles including these games: Harry Potter, Buzz Master Quiz, Go Messenger, and FIFA 09, just to name a few.
It seems the improvements made to the PSP 3000 will make it much more suited for portable use with a better screen and Skype phone capabilities. I assume existing PSP owners will still be able to use Skype with additional headset and mic plug-in.
Sony also announces the PSP’s biggest recent games are Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G and Crisis Core, no surprise here. Sony also announce the PSP has currently sold over 41 million units worldwide, nice.

What is thus “sun” you speak of? I am unfamiliar with this concept.
Still not interested in the PSP, though. Too much stuff on it. I want a handheld gaming console, not a handheld PC…and no handheld sees too much play time with me, anyway.

sony is capable of making cell phones, cameras, and camcorders as small as your wallet and yet they can’t tied those products together to make a real PSP2? they want you to fork over as much money as possible by keeping them separate, but if they really wanna blow the ds outta the water they should put all these major features into one handheld device- the price doesn’t even matter especially if the psp is also a cell phone- iphone launch was, for lack of better term- an exaggerated hype party on steroids. If sony can capture all its bs products and making something genuine, like what they did with the ps2 instead of selling a dvd player add on separately- they really could be something worth investing into. Don’t buy this psp3000 crap, who the hell came up with the idea of such a “major”overhaul to deal with minor problems? Sony lost its mind.
