It looks like the PS4 is being developed much sooner than you or I may have thought, with a report indicating that Sony is currently designing the specs for the next generation console. The source also states that Sony will try to beat Microsoft to the punch next generation.

The Wii has had and is having a massive impact on the games industry. Here is a small, cheap to produce, fun, and easy to play console which is beating its technically superior rivals in to the ground. But its impact could go beyond merely this generation. Could it be that casual gaming, helped by the Wii, will kill off games consoles as we know them for good?

For the last month, we here at GAMER.BLORGE have been running a poll to find out ‘Which console is the best of all time (so far)?’ The results are in, and they show that our readers consider the PS3 to be the best console ever, after it took the title from the Xbox 360, Wii and Your Mum.

Microsoft’s first party studio Rare has been in the video game news recently due to some criticism it has received by Peter Moore, former head of Microsoft Game Studios. We also ran a story yesterday questioning if there is anything Rare has to worry about with the closure of fellow internal developer, Ensemble Studios. It looks like Rare is back in the limelight after confirming that the fan favorite game Killer Instinct will not be brought back anytime soon.

The Wii is everywhere. You’ve probably got one, your friends have probably got one, and even your aged parents might have one. But popularity doesn’t always equal brilliance, and many Wii games are shallow tepid affairs. Lucky for you then that the Wii is backwards compatible.

A couple of days ago I wrote a story about how Microsoft announced the closure of one of its first party studio, Ensemble Studios. The stated reason behind this decision to close one of its studios was due to lack of scalability. In other words, Microsoft execs felt that Ensemble as a venture could not grow profitably. This raises an interesting question; could the same fate fall upon Rare as well?

Just last weekend, I spoke about the next generation of consoles and who is likely to be involved. I think all three current players, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are likely to play again, but some feel differently. Could it be that the PS3 and Xbox 360 are the last consoles from Sony and Microsoft respectively?

There is growing concern from many game studios regarding the pre-owned video game market. As we have mentioned in a previous story, EA has spoken out against this practice. While retailers like EBGames and GameCrazy are making a killing off pre-owned game sales, game studios are losing out on potential profits.

The Xbox 360 hasn’t exactly flown off the shelves in Japan since being released there at the end of 2005, but there are now signs that gaming’s spiritual home is starting to accept Microsoft’s entry in to the console market. The Xbox 360 has now beaten the PS3 in terms of sales for two weeks in a row, but Nintendo, thanks to the Wii and DS, is still beating all comers.
