Xbox Live original games make a comeback - watch out PS3 PSN

By Mike Ferro

Xbox Live original games make a comeback - watch out PS3 PSN If you asked me who had the better library of original downloadable games, between the PS3 PSN or Xbox Live a few months ago I would have given the nod to the PSN. However if you asked me today I would have to give the nod to Xbox Live.

Just a few short months ago I would have said the PSN has a library better library of original titles. Many would have agreed with me with considering the list of full blown PSN exclusive downloadable games like: Warhawk:Operation Omega Dawn, Pain, PixelJunk Eden, Siren: Blood Curse and Gran Turismo: Prologue.

Don’t get me wrong, Xbox Live does have a huge back catalog of arcade games, with a lot of games people don’t play because well, they just were not good and the top games that did get people talking were far and few between. Of course I can never tire of Geometry Wars, for those of you who don’t know, its the Xbox 360’s equivalent of Super Stardust for PSN.

The tides have turned as Xbox Live is making a big comeback in the “new and original” downloadable games department. We are getting some great titles on Xbox Live instead of some of the lesser quality titles such as: Yaris(what were they thinking?), Double D Dodgeball, or Bliss Island.

With the release of great games such as Braid (see our review), Castle Crashers, and soon to release Owl Boy it looks like Xbox Live is making a comeback.

Braid and Castle Crashers are both excellent games with a fresh and unique concepts driving them, many will agree these two games are currently the cream of the crop on Xbox Live. Owl Boy looks like another interesting game that I am looking forward to. Owl Boy is a 2D side scrolling adventure game where you control a boy named Otus who journeys to a floating island. If you don’t have an Xbox 360 don’t fret because this game will also be coming out for the PC as well.

However PS3 fans shouldn’t get their panties in a twist just yet, because I wouldn’t be all that surprised if the PSN makes a comeback in a couple months, as I can see a few games that might get some attention. With games such as SOCOM: Confrontation, Crash Commando, Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic and Sky Gods heading to the PSN soon I can foresee a busy Christmas.

I played Alien Hominid… and Castle Crashers looks like a kick ass game… I hope they release it on the PSN… though it has online issues…

      still…

    2. Janny:

OK one…how can you make a statement that Xbox has turned the tables on Sony when your only talking about 3 games, none of which are even well known titles.

I think that Xbox needs to starts releasing main stream games for download like Sony did with Warhawk, GT5 Prologue, and classic Playstation games.

I mean come on, why can’t they put classic Xbox games up their like the original halo, PGR, hell they could even put up Metal gear…come Micro$oft get with the program.

    3. Al:

Braid is a timed exclusive and will be coming to the PC later this year and PS3 probably early next year.

Castle Crashers is a 360 exclusive on XBL for now, this one will probably not come out for the PS3, but it is still possible for it to come out on PSN.

Owlboy looks good, it isn’t out yet and will come out for the PC as well, so most PS3 users will be able to get it that way.

So for now, how can you compare XBL’s: Braid and Castle Crashers to PSN’s: Warhawk, GT5 Pro., PAIN, Pixeljunk Monsters and Eden, Echochrome, Siren:BC, The Last Guy, Ratchet and Clank:QforB, and thats just naming a few.

With Socom, Sky Dogs, and several others coming out soon for the PSN, it looks like PSN’s list of exclusive titles will keep trumping XBL’s list of exclusives.

    4. Mark:

Sorry, but the quality of PSN titles is VASTLY superior to XBL downloadable titles.

      YOu don’t even mention.

      Pain
      SuperstardustHD
      The Last Guy
      EchoChrome
      PixelJunk Eden
      PixelJunk Monsters
      Calling All Cars
Ratchet and Clank, Quest For Booty
      GT5 Prologue
      Warhawk
      Socom
      Siren Blood Curse

That’s just for starters, all top quality, PSN exclusive titles. XBL does not even come close. Infact, pretty much everything released on PSN is worth the download asking price. The opposite is true on XBL, which has much less quality content.

    5. Josh:

Siren Blood Curse is too good. I can’t play it. It scares the shit out of me.

    6. Matt:

@ tatsujin……why are you complaining?…..just make a japanese account……if you did already, then dont complain

    7. Ivan_PSP:

Xbox Live games will never be able to beat Sony’s PLAYSTATION 3 games like
      Warhawk
      Gran Turismo 5: Prolouge
      Stardust HD
      Blast Factor
      SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation
and many more. PSN has way better quality in games.

    8. Antonidas:

Yah, So how do you explain this Ivan_PSP!
