Developers underestimate the demand for SOCOM: Confrontation on PS3
Many gamers have been eagerly anticipating the launch of the public beta of SOCOM: Confrontation, but have been extremely disappointed after finding that practically all the servers for the game are down. Currently the SOCOM servers are being slammed by an overwhelming number of players.
The official SOCOM site director of development, Seth Luisi, made an announcement indicating that due to an overwhelming demand for SOCOM, the servers are experiencing latency, disconnects and long load times. It seems Luisi and his team has greatly underestimated the demand or need for a SOCOM fix.
The SOCOM franchise is considered by far one of Sony’s greatest multiplayer shooters, selling well over 11 million units during the life of the franchise. It’s hard to understand how Sony could have underestimated the pent up demand for the game.
There is one good bit of news, not to long after the announcement was made another update was made to the website indicating that a patch 1.10 will be released to update/fix the servers. Apparently it seems the patch will address some of the stability and joining issues currently present.
The patch will also add support for dedicated servers located in Europe and Australia. Running on dedicated servers does allow for the best online performance achievable – that is once all the kinks are worked out.
Another reason why dedicated servers are so good is due connection reliance. Those who have played games on peer-to-peer know how frustrating this issue can be. There are also issues such as host advantage in Gears of War, where everyone else but the host lags. Another disadvantage is when a host leaves the room the whole game ends like Call of Duty 4.
One thing Sony has done right with online gaming is the use of dedicated servers for most of the first party games such as Warhawk. Warhawk is well known for having racks of PS3s acting as dedicated servers running non-stop 24 hours a day.

Well I played the beta and I guess im not a sony fanboy. graphics are good but controls and game play sucks.. Especially the zoom in feature with the d-pad… besides having there own servers game offers nothing new what so ever Graw 2 is a much better game and COD4 lets not even go there. I own the ps3 and 360.. the best shooters are on the 360 I have COD4 for the ps3 and after a bunch of patches I still hate the fact when u stop your character continues to move forward stop means stop.. (Something very common and annoying in ps3 games) I would expect better for the hardware the PS3 has but hey I have the best blue ray player set up in my home theater so I don’t feel like a total A$$ buying this crap

real gamer, u suck. You just hate on the PS3. i dont believe u even have 1 and the gameplay for socom is good and the d- pad for zooming in is even better. I a lot of xbox games. Push down the thumb sticks zooms and it could suck cuz somethimes u will be shooting and all of a sudden it zooms and you get killed. Dont be a PS3 hater because you are a xbox fanboy and shouldn’t hate on a game like socom. You would probably hate on call of duty 4 if it was a PS3 exclusive.

You should win an award for efficiency in pronouncing your own ignorance. In 12 words you managed to display just how dumb you actually are. Do you even know what a Beta is?
The 1.10 patch has made a huge difference in stability, and I am comfortably playing again like it was when it first opened (I started playing within 20mins of the downloads starting). This is the whole point of Beta testing, and they have responding quickly and efficiently to the problems. Nothing newsworthy here, really. Unless you want to praise the developers for jumping on the overload issues almost immediately.
Real Gamer:
Controller creep occurs on controllers that are dirty and unmaintained. Wash your greasy mitts and swab out the Analog stick base now and then. If that is too hygenic for you, try increasing the dead zone in the settings. The MUCH lighter reflex on the ps3 analogs make for higher precision and more comfortable gaming. The trade off is that you actually have to take care of your equipment. This isn’t an overheating PC from 3 years ago, its a PS3, and as such requires the care that most Electronics enthusiasts give their high tech equipment. When was the last time you even dusted it off?
As for Confrontation game play, it is almost identical to the entire franchise. If you had played the socoms before Confrontation (I have played everyone of them from release, starting with the first one), you would recognize it and have no problems with re-adapting. It took me weeks to get used to other shooters after I stopped playing SocomCA, but about 3minutes to get back in the swing of it with Confrontation Beta. Hell, I even got the hang of using controller tilt for peek and shoulder cam placement after a couple games.
Go back to your cave Xbot. The tired old BS line, “I own both, so I speak from an omnipotent stance of awesomeness” has got to go. If it is just a blue ray player to you, then pretend that it isn’t a gaming machine at all. Driving a ferrari 10 under the limit does not a Schumacher make…

I just got a couple things to add here. to all the people bashing xbox you shouldnt. cause they made alot of money . well bill gates didnt have enough already.and they do have halo 3, i bought it .and that was stupid cause even halo 2 was better then that damn thing. oh and i had to send 3 xbox 360’s back because of over heating,and thats in a year and a half .

I have a wii, 2 xbox 360’s and a sony paper weight 3…. Xbox 360 is the console to have for online gaming…. the ps3 is only good for bluray… the wii is good for little kids…if you think otherwise you are a tool that obviously just wants to blow sony and you cant afford another system…ohh and by the way socom confrontation came out 3 days ago and I have yet to play a single game thanks to G@Y slant six games underestimating how popular the socom tittle is or was
