Crytek CEO says PS4 will be the more important than Xbox 360 II and Wii 2
Recently, during the GC Asia 2008 event, Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek made a startling revelation about the company’s future plans. Yerli indicated that his company will not focus on the current gen consoles (Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii) but will focus on the next generation systems. He stated how important the “PS4″ and “Xbox 360 II” will be, but he specifically pointed out the PS4 as the main system of the future.
Crytek is known for developing notoriously bleeding edge graphic games such as Crysis, which can only run perfectly on high end PCs. Currently, the studio has mainly focused on pushing PC titles with the belief that video game consoles are not at the level needed for Crytek’s games.
Despite this belief, the studio has been feverishly working on porting the CryEngine 2 over to the Xbox 360 and the PS3. This is the same engine currently used in Crysis. According to IGN, Yerli made a bold statement that the most important console of the future would be the PS4. It is definitely curious as to why he would make such a bold statement when no plans have ever been announced by Sony as to its plans for the next gen.
Yerli said:
“frankly, we are linking ourself to what the PS4 will take up as [its hardware] position; that is the console makeup that will drive all our research, so we cannot wait to know what the [machine] will be about. That’s probably the most important missing information we have right now in our company.”
In preparation for the future, it seems Yerli wants to shift all of Crytek’s research efforts on studying the PS4. To many of our curious readers, Yerli may seem like a crackpot CEO banking on pipe dreams.
It does seem a bit radical that a company would rearrange its R&D based on an unknown platform. Also, it is curious as to why Yerli has fallen in love with the PS4 despite neglecting the PS3 for the past two years. Could he have some secret insight into what Sony has planned for the future?

Sony are just going to take the current GPU offered by nVidia or ATI, call it something cool like the “emotion engine” and flog it off as the most advanced piece of consumer electronics ever devised.
What he’s really saying is we’ll stick with PCs until new consoles come out that can actually do what we want.

I don’t think hes saying that they’re going to be making ps4 games exclusively.
Sounds to me like he wants to see what the PS4 can do (in terms of power) and then base their goals around that.
Crytek have already said they don’t want to stay PC only due to piracy.
However I do think he’s basing everything on the assumption that Sony is going to put out a very powerful machine – Which is kind of silly.

not the ps4 xbox 720 wii 2 crap again. We dont want to spend loads of money on a new console when i only just bought my ps3! and it cost loads! damn rumours. stop ruining my gaming experience.
On a lighter note, i thank gaming for success in a recent aptitude test. it involved tests which are very similar to video games.

The PS3 has yet to take off with gamers as it is (you can’t have it both ways, if it’s being bought as ‘the best Blu-ray player’ that makes it’s gaming position even worse).
From the way they keep talking about it and how at some undefined point in the future it’ll all work out ok (you know, like having a game catalogue of more than 5 exclusive games worth bothering with) the XBox will be either into or about to go into it’s next gen.
So, Playstation a whole generation behind.
Yeah, that’s just the sort of positioning they need.
No wonder they’ll get any old plonker wheeled out to talk any old speculative BS about the PS4.
The PS4 is, btw, completely undefined, still a series of options and many years off of seeing the light of day (even as a prototype at a show – unless they’re now so panicked that we’ll see what is actually a PS3.5 soon, so much for 10yrs, eh?).

It will be interesting to see what happens the next gaming generation. Yerli should know that the 360 made two main mistakes this generation:
1. Every 360 shoud have had a hard drive
2. HD-DVD should have been incorporated into it.
But, it’s understandable why MS didn’t do include them…they didn’t have the Sony “playstation” name. If they would have forced you to have a hard drive and HD-DVD player, the price would have increased to an already controversial level.
…until the PS3 came out. Then, all of a sudden, the 360 didn’t seem to be THAT expensive.
MS has proven that it can lobby for exclusive titles and pull in excellent games. The xbox live experience is still unmatched.
I bought 13 months of xbox live for $38.99. That’s less than $3/mo. – yeah, it’s worth it. This little “chip in” to XBL allows their team to grow the service through funded R&D.
The 360 is now a proven system. And the price of this current gen has set prescedence, so the consumers won’t be scared off as easily with the next gen pricing.
Expect the 360 II to incorporate a hard drive into ALL consoles and a HD player. Expect the 360 II to be a balanced machine with the CPU and GPU operating in an optimized fashion. Expect the 360 II to be a more reliable machine than the 360 (wouldn’t be hard to do).
Expect the PS4 to be more of a balanced machine than the PS3. It doesn’t matter how powerful your computer is…if the video card is “last generation”…your graphics for the latest and greatest games will be bottlenecked by the video card performance/limits.

For the next system I would like to see a PS4 running on Xbox Live. Let MS stick to the Software which some people would disagree, is their forte, and Sony handle the hardware. That would be a kickass system.
both MS and Sony made mistakes this gen. MS with rushing out the hardware to beat Sony to the punch which we all know caused issues, and Sony for, like rooter said using a Vid card that wasnt expecially made for the system and not having at least another 256 of RAM. I still dont believe blu ray was a mistake. The prices are coming down and soon many will realize how awesome it is to have such a great cheap BR player for a decent price.

WHAT The HECK. I dont even whant to think of A PS4 or xbox 360 II. I spent to much money and waiting so long to get a PS3. The PS3 still has so much potential and can easily be out there for another 5 years. MAybe xbox might have to build a new console in order to stay competive with the PS3 but still, it still xbox 360 and ps3 have so much more to offer. Sure sony and microsoft made mistakes this generation, but there is so much more that has to come and let people gain money and fill there wallets before the PS4 or xbox 360 II comes out. give it another 4-8 years before thes new console come out.

Have to disagree on one or two things tho!
1 : HD-DVD in every unit – I don’t think its needed at all, dvd-dl’s work just fine IMO. It may have helped propel HD-DVD into the mainstream but you have to wonder if it would have a: sold more units, and then more importantly b: sold more games. Otherwise you have units out there (like some PS3’s) that are just used for media and not games. I suppose it could have cut down piracy tho due to the costs involved with burning the games.
2 : The xbox live experience is still unmatched. – I was going to say that I don’t buy into that statement. However I actually agree. However its more like a cat turd vs a dog turd, they both blow. PC only destroys anything consoles have pushed onto us. Give me a server list on ALL my games (e.g. like warhawk) AND the ability for my console to connect to my OWN vent server that PC players can connect to and then MAYBE ill start to enjoy shitty console online.
Oh and regardless of how cheap XBL may be, its still a slap in the face to be told ‘you can’t get this demo yet because JOOZ NOT TEH GOLDZZZZZ MEMBER!!’
Thats when I get my demo from the PSN instead. The PSN on the flipside is nice and free but a lack of messaging options etc. really hurt it.

1) If a significant number of PS3s are being bought by a segment of the a/v market (however niche that may be) just to watch Blu-ray movies (and they are, seeing as it’s said to be the best BD player) then it merely reinforces the truth already well know regarding poor PS3 game sales numbers.
PS3 could be bought for both – of course nothing excludes that possibility – but the game sales numbers show it isn’t being bought for both.
2) I couldn’t care less about the XBox 360.
I just enjoy taking the micky out of the PS3 fanboy element.
You might call it ‘ragging’ but the fact is that a periodic reality slap in the face is well worth it & most welcome when dealing with PS3 fantasists.
They can BS all day long about how ‘advanced’ they imagine their game console to be but the facts are that it is, at heart, ancient Nvidia 7800/7900GS – with a teeny weeny amount of RAM.
It can all be as dedicated as you like but nevertheless it’s still so far behind a decent PC card now.

Well I’m not going to bother going on about the blu ray player thingy, I suspect neither of us have any real solid figures on it. Unless you’re going to try to use ‘attach’ rates as some sort of ‘evidence’. I have no doubt some people have purchased the machine as a blu ray player, but it could be less than %1 for all we know.
Oh and for the price of some of the highest end video cards, you can buy a PS3 & have change – so what do you really expect from a machine that costs $400 and is designed to chug for 7+ years. The same thing happens every generation (but yes some people do act as if its a super computer).

I have been a PC gamer for “literally” 20 years before I bought a console.
*old man alert*
I believe that ONLINE should be FREE, no questions. But, the online LIVE has, has been FAR less frustrating and more versitale than that of the PC.
Btw, the 360 allows you to create “silver” accounts. Each silver account gives you a free 30 days of Gold. So, I believe that you can actually work it where you never have to pay…you just won’t have your achievement transfer between your accounts. So…maybe LIVE is free!
I have a PS3 too, online just hasn’t been up to par for me there either.
I also agree on the HD-DVD. I don’t think it was necessary to put an HD-DVD drive in…but, the public does. Sony wanted to put a “perception” on the market to make the 360 seem inferior because it doesn’t have over 9GB of storage. So, reguardless of what you and I believe on the issue here – many people buy into to this…which is what MS has to try to couter.
I think it was too early for blu-ray and HD-DVD to be introduced. Ofcourse, if MS has their way, everything will be downloadable…and even blu will fail…I’m still surprised about how much of my family and friends never heard of it!
