Move over Tickle Me Elmo the next big thing is here – LittleBigPlanet for the PS3
As part of a marketing blitz campaign, Media Molecule and Sony sent out tons of beta codes to various sites all across Europe. The net effect was pandemonium across the Web. LittleBigPlanet is quickly turning into the must have item for the holiday season. Move over Tickle Me Elmo, LittleBigPlanet is here!
If you haven’t heard already, LittleBigPlanet is an exclusive PS3 game that has everyone talking, from local newspapers to other major media outlets. LittleBigPlanet is an interactive social game for all ages, where digital user created content is the focus. Users can snap pictures of themselves and slap them onto the little burlap Sackboy or Sackgirl character.
The game allows you to play and create levels as well as build your own character from scratch with friends in the same room or across the Web. Players can create an entire world from scratch with a basic set of tools that even a preschooler could handle. It is said that there is nothing else like it on the market and it is one of a kind.
The beta codes were handed out in preparation of the official launch of LittleBigPlanet next month. This will give the public a taste of the game before its official release date. It may be a tease, but it is definitely worth it.
Various sites across Europe experienced extremely high traffic volumes and at times were completely unavailable due to the amount of users accessing the sites. Some of the sites that were participating in the event were Eurogamer, Gamereactor and Gameover.
Surprisingly, LittleBigPlanet has been receiving an enormous amount of attention as well as hype not only from the consumers, but from the review critics as well. This is one title that you should probably pre-order in hopes of getting your hands on it without waiting too long.
LittleBigPlanet is set to release on October 21, 2008 in North America and on October 22, 2008 in Europe for the retail price of $59.99.

I had a thought. FERRO is comparing this game to Tickle Me Elmo. He has confirmed my suspicion, it’s a kids game. Little Big Planet and Viva Pinata have their own audience, ages 10 and below.

If you recall I had some reservations about the game when I was doing the countdown a while back and really didn’t understand all the fuss, but after I recently had some hands on time with the game it really won me over.
As harry says, it really seems to appeal to a much broader audience ranging from the young to the old.
For you hardcore fans, there are some crazy levels that are extremely difficult.
Some of the extremely hardcore levels I have played require skillful platforming.
I don’t want to give too much away, Ill give more details about it once we get our hands on the review copy.

Having played the beta (which I doubt the poster of this article has), it’s certainly not a kids fad like he implies.
The Wii is more like Tickle Me Elmo… Still if it sells four million consoles over Xmas in the US, then that can’t be a bad thing…
I suspect it’s only one of the factors that make the PS3 the console to have this year. Sure it’s not the cheapest, but the cheapo consoles are crap.
