Belgium outlaws rentals - Are pre-owned games next?

In what has got to be one of the most ridiculous pieces of legislation ever, Belgium, that small European country famous for chocolate and chips (served with mayonnaise), has outlawed videogame rentals. Could this spread to other countries? And if so, could it then lead to the sale of pre-owned games being banned?

PS3 boss says Microsoft hampering progress with Xbox 360 exclusive DLC Ray Maguire, managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment UK, indicated in a recent interview that Microsoft is hampering progressing by paying for exclusive content. Last year, Microsoft paid 2K Games an amount equal to that of a small country’s GDP to prevent the PS3 from receiving downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV.

Is the prototype PS3 break-apart controller practical? Rumors about a new PS3 break-apart controller have been circulating around the Internet for quite some time now. Sony has refused to comment on such speculation, stating it is just pure rumor. A new patent that was filed by Sony may reveal that such a device does exist. However, upon looking at the patent the first question that pops into my mind is - how practical is it?

Ever since the Nintendo Wii arrived on the gaming scene at the end of 2006, it’s been flying off shop shelves at a faster rate than Nintendo could cope with. Supply has now been ramped up substantially so that it finally matches demand. But with most people’s Wii’s gathering dust on their floors, who the hell is still buying what is essentially a very short-lived toy?

PS3 close to breaking even: 60% reduction in loss for game division Sony second quarter financial results are out and there is strong evidence in the report why the company might be refusing to cut the price of the PS3. According to the report, Sony might be very close to breaking even on manufacturing cost of the PS3. Considering that the original tear-down estimate for the PS3 was $800, to break even at $399 Sony would need to work some voodoo magic.

Fable II and LittleBigPlanet broken games or broken dreams Two highly anticipated games have launched within the past week and both games face serious issues. Fable II (Xbox 360) shipped with game-breaking glitches and LittleBigPlanet (PS3) faces server woes. Are developers getting lazy by releasing now and patching later? Unfortunately, the ones that suffer are the consumers who, instead of playing the games are spending time on the forums, desperately looking for answers.

Still need Left 4 Dead with Call of Duty 5 zombie mode? Zombies seem to be the latest craze these days. Co-op centric game, Left 4 Dead is all about zombies. There is even a zombie mode for Grand Theft Auto IV. Apparently, Call of Duty: World at War will now have a special zombie gameplay mode as well.

Whether you’re a Wii, PS3, or Xbox 360 owner, you cannot fail to recognize that Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto is a gaming genius. This is the man responsible for Donkey Kong, Super Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, and Pikmin, amongst others. And on the Wii, he has so far brought us Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and his new magnum opus, Wii Music.
