TGS 2008: New exclusives and announcements for the PS3 and Xbox 360
By Mike Ferro
The Tokyo Game Show (TGS) is underway and some interesting information has already come out of the conference. Several games have been shown for the Xbox 360 and the PS3, as well as a few surprising announcements that have been leaked.
The new and exciting Ninja Gaiden clone, Ninja Blade for the Xbox 360, was demonstrated for the first time at TGS. The game seems to have a Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry vibe to it. The combat is nowhere as hardcore as Ninja Gaiden, but the cinematic effects look stunning during the fight sequences. This game may be the perfect title to sit next to Ninja Gaiden II and Devil May Cry 4 on my shelf.
Some other games that were shown at TGS include: LocoRoco 2 and Patapon 2. LocoRoco was a fun game, especially the PSP version. I really didn’t like the fact you couldn’t move LocoRoco’s world around in the PS3 version. However, the sequel looks to have a more adventure-like feeling to the game.
Famitsu was able to leak some of Sony’s big TGS announcements in its latest episode of the magazine. According to Famitsu, the PS3 will receive two new bundles and a new exclusive game from Tecmo, titled Quantum Theory. The two PS3 bundles will include either Gran Turismo 5: Prologue Spec III or LittleBigPlanet. The bundles are said to be for Japan, but I am definitely sure that the LittleBigPlanet bundle will make its way overseas.
Currently, there is very little information regarding Quantum Theory, except that it is a third person shooter and that the main character looks like Marcus Phoenix from Gears of War mixed with Jin from Tekken. We are hoping that more information and footage will be shown tomorrow during the conference.
That pretty much raps it up as far as the TGS announcements or news leaks are concerned. However, I suspect more news will be coming out tomorrow. Will we hear of Kingdom Heart III? Will Team ICO’s game finally be revealed? Stay tuned for answers to these burning questions.

Tekken 6 on 360 as well, typical.

saw that coming from a mile away. No big deal…as long as it doesn’t hold up the release of the PS3 version (FF13) I couldn’t care less that it lost its exclusivity.
Can’t believe Tecmo is making a ps3 exclusive though .
Game looks damn good so far.

haha it’ll probably end up on 360 too. The new halo game is going to be the shit!

The controller for the xbox 360 is the big problem for tekken, PS is a lot better. If xbox has an arcade stick (I don’t know if they do or not) then it wouldn’t be a problem.
Tekken is the one game that may make me go for xbox 360 or ps3.

Halo is for homo’s.
October 9th, 2008
thats why Halo is my favourite game.

Im sorry but maybe this is all personal opinion when it comes to controllers but I still believe the 360 controller is the best controller in the industry right now. Nothing about it feels ackward. it fits so comfortably. I don’t undersand this it’s better for this type of game argument. I play everything without any comfort issues.

I can say the same for the DS3 ……
Really comes down to personal preference

@CAD.
for the same reason why some people believe the 360 controller is better for FPS’s others believe the ps3 controller is better for fighters. location of the analog. Not to mention the “dpad” feels broken to me on the 360 one.
I like the trigger buttons on the 360 controller a lot better than the ones on ps3. but I really pefer the location of the analog on the ps3 (prob cuz I’m used to it there) even though there could be certain situaltions where your fingers almost touch.

That what I’m talking about. Everytime I pick up a PS3 Controller the directional pad feels fine but the alalogue stick feels like you have to drop your thumb down so far to reach it. I also have a issue about the triggers on the PS3 controller but they function. Triggers on the 360 are definaltely the best.
October 9th, 2008
The fact that the trigger buttons actually click as a trigger on 360 makes it cooler for a fps games. The L2R2 buttons typically don’t get used as trigger buttons anyway in most ps3 games (R1 is usually).
I Really have to chalk up the controller to straight up preference. Xbox brand came along way with the controller from the monster hand controller of previous design.

Halo is an average game at best…. Also the sloppy excuse for a directional pad on the 360 does not work well at all.
I am waiting for news from ICO.

i call Marcus Pheonix - Phil Collins all the time……lol

The D-pad on the Dualshock is perfect for fighters like Tekken and Soul Calibur. The 360 controller is not really designed for these kinds of games. Similarly, console-based FPS titles didn’t really have much of a presence in gaming when the original DualShock was designed, hence why it’s inferior for those particular titles.
Beyond this, it’s all really just what you’re used to.

The first Resistance used the R1 as the trigger instead of the actual trigger Duhhhhhh!!! It turned me off so bad I just could not play the game. Maybe also the fact that it was compared to Gears and it was so not Gears. Gears stands way above that game.
October 9th, 2008
role on resistance 2, 60 people! cant wait.
October 9th, 2008
@CAD
thats funny. I prefer it since its closer that the R2button. COD4 is the same. HL2 is R2 and I wish I could change it to R1…so like I said..to each their own.
It really wasn’t Gears. you can’t compare a 3ps to a fps. but whatever. people need to compare everything.
Maybe Single player gears was better than Resistance but MP Resistance owned it…aside for mp online co-op which R2 has 8player….

360 controller always seems to make may hands hurt after playing it for a while… Never get that with the ps3 and I am not sure why it does it.
Its also pretty darn heavy, but I guess thats the tradeoff for rumble.
They’re both decent controllers, I prefer the general shape of the dual shock altho the 360 does have some areas nicely shaped to fit the hands. The dpad also sucks monkey balls on the 360, i press down and the fuckin thing goes up (yes i know they’re changing em, but its too late now). The triggers on the 360 are also better, it seems like they have a greater range of sensitivity.

“360 controller always seems to make may hands hurt after playing it for a while… Never get that with the ps3 and I am not sure why it does it.”
Probably an allergic reaction to Microsoft.
October 9th, 2008
haha how soft are your hands?!?!
October 9th, 2008
I take offense to that!
* moisturises hands *
Its more like an RSI. Not so much these days, maybe it was just the step up in size & weight
I still like both controllers for thier differant shapes and stuff, its like part of me likes the ergonomic 360 controller but the other part of me likes the slighty more ‘raw’ ps3 pad. Kinda like how i hate those logitech laser mice for gaming because they fit TOO well in your hand, which is why i love my diamondback

StarOcean: Last Hope no longer a X360 exclusive, now launching same day/date on PS3..
Funny how the media loves to report a title like FFXIII when it loses western exclusivity (abiet timed), yet lets than annoucement slip under the radar, especially since Microsoft made such a big fuss about it (falsely) being a X360 exclusive.
October 10th, 2008
Mark,
Do we know for sure it will be a simultaneous launch? Source please.
@SW, I’ve noticed that the 360 controller rests in my palms, whereas the Dualshock is cradled in the curves of my fingers, leaving my palms open and allowing my hands to breathe. The 360 controller (combined with it’s generally more “twitchy” games) makes my palms sweaty!
Generally speaking, though, I don’t mind it over shorter playing periods.
