TGS 2008: PS3 gets Gears of War-like game and secret Konami game revealed

Yesterday, we covered several of the interesting news bits that came out of the Tokyo Game Show (TGS). Today, several of the studios introduced a couple of new and exciting titles at the event. Konami finally revealed the return of one of its most famous franchises. We also take a closer look at a new Gears of War-like game for the PS3.
During the TGS event, Konami showed a teaser trailer for Castlevania. The trailer depicted a man with a red glowing sword, dressed very smartly. The last time the famed whip carrying producer, Koji Igarashi was questioned regarding the popular series; he indicated some doubts about bringing the series to the next gen platform. His reservations were due to the difficulty many traditional 2D games have faced when converting over to 3D.
Thus far, it is not known whether the next gen Castlevania, which is set to launch on the Xbox 360 and the PS3, will be in 3D or remain 2D. This is exciting news as it has been a very long time since Konami has released a serious revamped version of the game for the home consoles.
There was also an announcement made about Tekken 6, at the TGS. Namco Bandi revealed today that the game will be coming out on the Xbox 360. The game was listed for the PS3, but has been rumored to be coming out on the Xbox 360 for some time. The reason for the rumor was due to the fact Namco Bandi never revealed the title as an exclusive.
In other news, I made a joke yesterday that the newly revealed PS3 exclusive game, Quantum Theory’s main character looks a lot like a cross between Marcus Phoenix and Jin from Tekken. Today, a teaser trailer was shown, indicating how close I was to the truth. Quantum Theory seems to utilize a cover system similar to that of Gears of War. It is an over the shoulder third-person shooter as well. Even the characters are massively huge like the characters in Gears of War. However, that is where the similarity ends as the game has an over the top cinematic quality, similar to Devil May Cry 4.

That sums up another exciting day full of announcements from TGS. We have yet to hear about the highly-anticipated games such as Kingdom Heart III and Team ICO’s project. Since the TGS will be wrapping up soon, I am crossing my fingers for some more exciting news about these games. Make sure to stay tuned for more information.

What a waste. Quantum Theory looks too much like Gears of War, and will most likely not live up to what Epic game’s produced. Not to mention this won’t be showing up for awhile most likely (hey, it’s a PS3 game, GOD knows when games will come out). One Gears is plenty Gears.
- Gears of War 2 - Live - win.
- Quantum Theory - PSN - lose.
And… a Beautiful 2D Castlevania would be preferred for me, but we’ll see what happens and whether Konami performs it well! Castlevania is a great series!

I don’t know why they would have made a game like that for PS3. If PS3 gamers are just like everyone else on this site, then it is going to suck because apparently Gears Of War sucks. Or maybe it’s their way of coping with the fact that they’re NEVER going to play it on their machine.

Way to generalize. Every ps3 owner hates gears of war? I have it on the pc, and its pretty damn good. Best way to play it, is with a 360 controller (thats why i have experience with that controller-yesterdays topic)

phranctoast you are in the minority then, as the majority of PS3 owners here keep going on about how much it sucks.
And also, they keep harping on about how much Halo 3 sucks. If it sucked so much, how come it sold in record numbers, and how come so many people still play it, over a year after it’s release. Bitch please!

Gears is great. Halo3 doesn’t suck…its fanbase does…let me explain.
I’m all for good games, and the Halo franchise is one, and really showed what can be done with FPS on a console with a decent online setup.
What I hate is the fans that act as its the first and best FPS ever. UT franchise is awesome..Qauke….Wolfenstein???

I think Quantum Theory looks cool, like Gears meets Krull design wise.
