Mass Effect 2 on PS3 rumor resurfaces
Rumors that BioWare will develop Mass Effect for the PS3 have been doing the rounds for some time now. There is a new rumor on the prowl; the rumor indicates that the next iteration of Mass Effect will be coming out on the PS3. At this point, it is a tossup, as anything is possible with BioWare currently being owned by EA.
According to one of Europe’s largest video game magazine, Gamereactor, Mass Effect 2 could be coming out on the PS3, six months after the Xbox 360 version ships. Gamereactor indicates that the source was taken from Gamespot just a few days ago, before the information was taken down suddenly.
The Mass Effect on the PS3 rumor has resurfaced a number of times in the past, to be shot down by BioWare. However, with EA taking over the Mass Effect franchise, the chances are good that this series will most likely go multi-platform.
Reports also indicate that EA may have spent close to a billion dollars in acquiring BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios after paying out to the stockholders and the bonuses to key employees. With Mass Effect selling only two million units on the Xbox 360, it makes sense that the publisher will want to look at different avenues to make good on its investment.
However, if this is indeed the case, I am curious as to how EA and BioWare plans on bringing the PS3 players up to speed with regards to the story. How will PS3 owners even know what the Reapers are, without playing Mass Effect 1?
Mass Effect is definitely a great game with an involving story and arguably has one of the best dialog trees seen to date. This game should definitely be made available to as many people as possible, as it really is underappreciated in terms of sales. As always, we will update you with any new developments in the story.

“Mass Effect is definitely a great game”
I say a big BWHAHAHA to that. The 360 can keep it.
No story on the new rumours about MGS4 on 360 tho

If they improve like with Bioshock and Eternal Sonata and patch any problems than this would be awesome

It is a great game. I have it on PC and I really hope they bring the next one to the PS3.

Yea they took the source off the Gamespot FORUMS. Not a legit Gamespot article mind you. Could add that of course.
MGS4 talk from Konami themselves yea might want to look into that as mentioned. PS3 is a dying breed time to come to terms with it.

by what logic do you work this out by?

Sometimes rumors smell like the truth.
Sometimes they don’t.
A game that underachieved in sales jumping to another console for a sequal doesn’t.
I think we really need to see Mass Effect on the PS3 before even considering there may be a Mass Effect 2 for it. I don’t see this game being FF-like, going out on a totally different story for a sequal, so making the sequal on the PS3? Forget it.
I’m not even sure Sony fanboys would want it without the first.

The bioshock rumour started like this and like most rumours turned out to be true.
Anyway forget Mass Effect 2, where’s Mass Effect 1?

I played through ME1 on a friend’s 360. I would love to have the sequel on my PS3.

As a PS3 only owner… I would rather have Gears or Ninja Gaiden 2. Mass Effect doesn’t do it for me. I only played the second KOTOR, but I wasn’t a fan of that either.
As for bringing fans up to speed on the past story, maybe they can release a DVD covering the back story. Similar to what they did for Metal Gear.

I killed Wrex in the first Mass Effect. I was just sick and tired of his bitching.

Harry,
How COULD you?

Arvis, he was rattling on about how ‘his people’ were being abused. I decided to kill him before he joined the Black Panthers.

I agree with everything.

Harry,
*laughs* Yeah, I know, but I was very sympathetic to his plight, myself. Didn’t use him in battle much, but definitely didn’t want to KILL him.
I think it’s pretty clear that PS3 owners are kinder and more empathetic than 360 owners.

Guys, Microsoft published Mass Effect and likely has publishing rights to the sequels as well. They almost certainly worked something out with EA. There is nothing behind this rumour. This is no more likely–and probably less so since Mass Effect was published by Microsoft–than Metal Gear Solid 4 going to Xbox 360.
