Xbox 360 Halo developer Bungie to make a PS3 game?
According to a recent interview, Bungie revealed that a new IP is currently in the works. Also, another interesting bit of news revealed was that the new IP is not tied to Microsoft. This supports the rumors we reported previously about a potential multiplatform title that may be in the works.
In my story back in July, I talked about the rumor that Bungie may be working on a multiplatform title for the PS3 and Xbox 360. In that story, I also talked about Bungie’s announcement that the studio was working on three titles. As I predicted, one of those titles came to pass as Halo 3: Recon. However, the other two titles are still a mystery.
In a recent interview with GI.biz, Brian Jarrard, PR and Community Director at Bungie, indicated that the new title they are currently working on is not tied to a specific platform. This is indication enough that Microsoft will not be the publisher of this new title. Rumors have been circulating for months indicating that EA may be currently in talks with Bungie on this new mysterious title.
Jarrard said:
“No, we’re not [tied into a specific platform for new IP], In theory we do have every means to go out and find the right ecosystem, the right partners, to align with. So who knows what the future will bring us.”
This may be the first sign of Bungie exerting its independence after breaking off from Microsoft. If Bungie plays its cards right, it could find itself in a great position as a highly successful independent studio. Considering that the PS3 has a user base of roughly 16 million users, targeting that platform along with the Xbox 360’s user base could deliver massive profits for the studio.
However, despite Bungie’s excellent pedigree in crafting first person shooters, a new IP doesn’t necessarily guarantee success. Developer, Free Radical, who practically invented FPS on the home consoles with Goldeneye, failed to live up to its pedigree with Haze. Only time will tell if Bungie is a one hit wonder or if it truly has the goods.

Well Bungie was creating Halo for PS2 and Mac until Microsoft purchase the studio. They might create something decent is not like Halo was any good.

As a Next Gen Fps, Halo 3 really sucked. It was no where near the level achieved by Call of Duty 4 and Crysis or Bioshock. Halo is just an over hyped piece of trash that 360owners will never admit since they wasted their efforts hyping up and their money buying a crap like that.

@Ivan Halo may have sucked but it was better then GOW.

H3 is still a great game, the only reason some look at it as a disappointment was because Epic raised the bar for FPS games especially in the multiplayer aspect. COD4 was another game that raised the bar. Congrats to Bungie I hope they are able to have the multiplatform success they deserve. They deserve to have a piece of the multiplatform success of games like Assassins Creed, COD4, or GTA4.

Gears of War is a TPS (thired person shooter) Unless you ment unreal tournament III witch was very similar to the originals just without the ugle face. God of War is one of the best franchises on the PS i dont think anyone who has played it can put it down as anything less, bit worried how the thired iterataion is going to turn out though.

Bungie is using a 360 dev kit so it will either be exlusive to 360 or be on both at some point.
Halo 3 is great ! The 4 player co-op campaign has an insane replay value and bungie keeps improving the online matchmaking.
COD4 is nothing but random grenades.

Given the costs of developing top tier games this generation, it makes sense that there next game would be multiplatform. Unless Microsoft throw enough money at them to keep the title exclusive. Given Microsoft’s lack of in-house game developers, my money is on them paying to keep it exclusive.
Halo 3 was ok. It was the most over hyped and over rated game in history. I think the game was an 8 or so…. There’s no way it was a perfect 10.

Halo is so insanely overrated.
CoD4 is pure love making. Altho, random spawning is a pain in the ass on TDM/DM/Etc.
Hardcore mode FTW
(the ‘regular’ mode blows, shitty hud too).

Love COD4, but the grenades do get annoying. Amazing how someone can throw a grenade 200 yards over two buildings, bouncing it off a wall, where it glances off a car and rolls right up to my feet.

Harry,
Looks like your profile is already gone.
Maybe you should have chosen a less offensive user name?

HALO is probably the best FPS game ever. HALO 3 was amazing but i was disappointed. Considering that the graphics didnt really improve by much and the game halo 3 almost feels like just an update to halo 2 but with a new campain and more weopons and maps. See just an update. though i still love halo i think its going to take alot to creat something that will be better then halo other then call of duty and probably resistance 2 ( going to be da best FPS ever). Either way, just developing on the PS3, they have a good chance of creating something just as good as halo or hopefully even better then halo.
