Impression: PS3 Killzone 2 beta is only 459MB
Even though many gamers are buried under Fallout 3 and Resistance 2, Sony decided to send out the beta code for Killzone 2 today. Of course, the first thing I did after receiving the email was hit the PSN store to download the Killzone 2 beta. However, to my surprise the beta was only 469MB.
Considering that the full game is said to be close to 50GB, I was baffled by the size of the small beta file. After downloading the beta I launched the game suspecting that I would have to download an additional update. However, to my surprise I was not prompted to download anything.
Despite the small size of the beta file, the game looks magically phenomenal. However, the game does look a bit downgraded from the single player campaign, which I have seen previously at demonstration shows. It is not unusual for the multiplayer portion to use lower res textures than that of the single player campaign.
The attention to detail in the environments and the realistic animations still looked magnificent. The way the gun swings from side to side and the the silky smooth jumping animation makes the game feel extremely immersive. When you are killed there is an eight second period when another teammate can revive you. This can prevent you from obtaining an absolute death, as well as add a new twist to getting the kill. During the eight seconds your character flails his arms in attempts to get your teammate’s attention.
The controls are tight and responsive. However, I did have to speed up the X and Y axis sensitivity in the control options. It seems as though the axis movements were too slow by default, or maybe I have just gotten too used to Resistance 2’s loose controls.
There is also leveling up in the game. In a matter of two matches I managed to level up quite a bit. The multiplayer in Killzone 2 utilizes a similar concept to Resistance 2’s Skirmish mode, where smaller squads are formed to complete tasks. The smaller squads consist of four players within the 32 player match.
I will put up a more detailed analysis of the beta once I sink 30 some hours into the it. Make sure to stay tuned for more information on Killzone 2.

DWH:
- Stay low to the ground and out of sight
- Don’t go rushing in ‘running and gunning’ because you will just get killed
- Headshots are your best bet with the m4 custom
-Let your team mates run around getting killed while you see where fire comes from, then take them out
-Remember its a stealth game not a FPS like COD4
-Be aware of snipers
-Start on the map MM just to get used to combat.
-All else fails add me on MGO: Anihil8

That is because there is no skill in PC controls. Using a mouse to shoot is just to easy.

Console vs PC is an old argument. The skill is not in the struggle of shitty controls but in the skill of the actual player using tactical decisions to win. Like CAD said, its easier using mouse controls, freeing up the skill that you have for a certain game to better yourself in the other aspects of that game.
While I’m in no means terrible with console FPS controls, you simply can’t have some “twitch shooters” succeed on consoles because of it (UT3 anyone)
Playing FPS’s on a console after playing on PC’s is akin to trying to paint a masterpiece with boxing gloves on.

This looks amazing. I took off of work yesterday and spent almost the whole day playing Resistance. I just went and checked my email…. No Kill Zone beta for me. I have had pretty good luck lately with the Little Big Planet and Resistance betas. Guess you can’t win them all.
Also Snipers in MGO SUCK. Fight like a man and use the M4Custom.

I have a question. If you lost your password or don’t remember it, are you able to get it back? Because last time I tried to log on I had headaches man.

lol I am actually the infamous Barnabee Jones. Making a new account is easier than getting back your password.

I was stating for MGO. Sorry for the confusion.

Barnabee Ninja,
I thought Tatsujin was talking about his MGO password…
Ach. I’m out of it today.

Also, asides from the snipers… the login for MGO was a hasstle. I remember cursing at the TV when I set up one to play the beta. Then I cursed up a storm at the TV when I created one for the game. I’m sure there’s a way to get your password back, but I will bet it’s not easy or user friendly.
I don’t know if you’re all aware or not, but there offering 10,000 free points between 11/25 through 12/5 in honor of the one million members mark. I haven’t played in a while, but I think I’ll have to pick it up again.

I’ve never played it, so I am going on what you people tell me, but does MGO have a matchmaking system similar to Halo 3? It seems that DWH is being thrown into matches with people who have been playing it for ages and is pretty much cannon fodder.
November 6th, 2008
well… it does have a matching system… it actually gave me “warning people here are more experienced then you”… but the “Maverick” that I am… i decided to wing it…
What a mistake that was… NOT ONE KILL!!!
And Im REALLY good at Counter Strike… DAMMMIT!!!
Cmon Socom… COME ON!!!

THE BONUS POINTS are being given from 11/25 – 12/5. So you won’t get them until you long in between those times.
It does have a match making system, or you can select a match from the lobby. The lobby shows the average players level. I have been a huge fan of Metal Gear forever. That said, I wasn’t really taken with MGO. It can be very frustrating at times. Between the snipers and players who are a higher level, it feels like you don’t stand a chance sometimes.
November 7th, 2008
Harry,
If you’re asking if people purposely lower their own levels in order to get matched up with noobs, then no, MGO doesn’t work quite like that.
My few experiences with MGO led me to believe that, no matter what, there will always be noobs and experts in every match. At least it felt that way.
