Xbox Live still not fixed: Refund expected?

November 16, 2008

Xbox Live still not fixed: Refund expected? Yesterday, we wrote a story about Xbox Live and the connection issues it has been facing lately. Today, confirmation came from Microsoft that all of the reported issues have been resolved. However, it was too good to be true. Many are still experiencing connection issues.

In our story yesterday, I talked about the difference in stability between Xbox Live and the PS3’s PSN. The connection to Xbox Live has been a bit spotty lately for a great deal of subscribers, including myself. When Major Nelson announced that all of the connection issues have been resolved, I quickly jumped onto Xbox Live to find that the service is still experiencing problems.

It seems that I am not the only user facing connection issues as Major Nelson’s blog is quickly filling up with angry users crying foul. Major Nelson recently updated his blog to indicate that the problem has not been fixed for some users.

Many users have not been able to play games online throughout the whole weekend. This is bad for many, considering that the weekend is the prime time to get some game play in. Since Xbox Live subscribers have to pay to play online, having any extended period of down time is completely unacceptable.

However, as shown in the past, there is something Microsoft could do to make up for the connection issues. Microsoft could hand out some free points to compensate for the connectivity issues surrounding Xbox Live. I am sure many gamers would also appreciate a free Xbox Live Arcade game.

Last year when Xbox Live experienced outages for nearly two weeks during the holidays, Microsoft handed out a free arcade game. Since many gamers did not get a chance to play over the weekend, they should as least be entitled to some sort of compensation.

Give us your opinions – should Microsoft compensate for the recent Xbox Live connection issues?

Yep. If you don’t deliver on a paid service, there should be compensation.

They’ll probably give us another game like last time it happened. I never had a problem last time it happened and scored a free game, and same thing this time around. Hopefully i’ll score 2 free games out of a service i have had no problem with.

Oh waaa. How many of the xbot crybabies also call their cable company if the tv signal is out a demand “compensation”? Maybe get a life a go OUTSIDE for a weekend rather than staying cooped up in the house eh? Be good for you to actually interact with other humans face to face, and see the sun.

All yor Live are belong to us!

  4. CAD:

What problems there is nothing wrong with the service.

  5. harry sachz:

I’m not experiencing anything wrong with mine either CAD.

Funny how there weren’t daily articles about PSN and Playstation Store being down for longer than expected a couple of months ago on Blorge…

  6. Barnabe Jones:

Harry, thats because the PSN/store never went down. The servers for LBP went down for a few hours. You may be getting that confused with the PSN/Store.

Buy a fucking PLAYSTATION 3 before you write your fucking BULLSHIT. Xbox Live has gone down way more than the PLAYSTATION Network for no reason what so ever. While PLAYSTATION Network has been down it was either to update the server or anything else like the store plus with always know when is going to happen plus the service is free and is better than Xbox Live more stable and no cheaters or kids.

Let’s all imagine CAD and Harry if they were PS3 fanboys….

“What are you all talking about? Haze was awesome for me. I loved that game, it changed my life. There’s nothing wrong with it at all. Lair also was a perfect 10, beats the crap Ace Combat and whatnot. Yessiree, everything perfect over here in my happy place, not a THING wrong with anything that I like and enjoy… Anyone having problems must be imaginary or lying…”

Barnabe Jones, my oh my how short your memory is. A couple of months ago the PS Store was taken down for scheduled maintenance, which was meant to be for 24 hours. It ended up being 48. Never went down indeed….

    @ Chris,

I honestly have not had any issues with live. If it is such a monstrous issue that BLORGE is saying it is, why isn’t it all over sites like Kotaku etc?

  10. Barnabe Jones:

Harry, you are right. I do remember that they had maintenance scheduled… If it was down for 48 hours, I must have missed it then. Maybe I was finishing the Campaign for Resistance…or maybe when I went out on Thursday.

In the news today as a matter of fact: Sony has announced that the PSN has crossed the 14 million active accounts milestone, matching the bar set by the Xbox 360 back in October. Pacing the 360 again in terms of the consoles lifespan.

  11. Barnabe Jones:

Correction: I just noticed that you said couple of months ago. I know that Sony recetnly did maitance on the PSN. I thought you were refering to that.

Regardless of when (if) it was down for an extended period I must have missed it.

  12. phranctoast:

It was the maintenance when they put up the new store. The old one was down….then the brought up the new one.

OMG… I cant DL themes or videos or demos for two days. /sarcasm.

Which clearly doesn’t matter as the store gets updated on Thursday and this happened on a Tuesday. It’s not as if people were unable to play online for two days….cough cough….

  13. Barnabe Jones:

LMOA that is the exact reason why I never noticed it then. :)

  14. Arvis:

    Harry,

The Playstation Store being down is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from the Playstation Network being down. When the Store was down, I was still playing tons of Warhawk.
